RESUMO

São apresentados resultados de 3 ensaios e um campo de observações plantados em Divinolândia e em Campinas, com a finalidade de estudar o comportamento de 8 variedades de batatinha (Solanum tuberosum L.) recebidas da Irlanda do Norte, quais sejam: Ulster Torch, Ulster Dale, Arran Consul, Arran Banner, Kerr's Pink, Magestic, Up-to-Date e Stormont 480, tôdas de palpa creme.
De modo geral, excetuando-se a Stormont 480, mostraram-se produtivas, principalmente Magestic, Up-to-Date, Ulster Torch e Arran Banner. Esta última produziu as maiores porcentagens de tubérculos do tipo especial.
As variedades Arran Consul e Kerr's Pink mostraram-se muito sujeitas às manchas internas (chocolate), um grave defeito para comercialização.

SUMMARY

This paper reports on the performance of several Irish potato varieties imported from Northern Ireland when grown under the soil and climatic conditions of the state of São Paulo.
Results have shown all varieties to be highly productive, particularly the varieties Magestic, Up-to-Date, Ulster Torch, and Arran Banner.
The greatest percent age of jumbo sized tubers was recorded for the varieties Arran Banner, Arran Consul and Up-to-Date, whilst the variety Magestic, one of the best yielder, gave small percentage of such tubers, the same having occurred to Stormont 480.
Cases of secondary growth have been observed mainly in the varieties Magestic, Up-to-Date, Ulster Torch and Arran Consul; internal brown spot has been observed in the varieties Arran Banner, Arran Consul, Kerr's Pink and cracking in varieties Magestic, Up-to-Date, Ulster Torch and Kerr's Pink. All varieties were in general susceptible to silver scurf, especially the varieties Up-to-Date, Arran Banner, Kerr's Pink, Ulster Dale and Stormont 480.
