SUMMARY

A preliminary trial with dry beans (Phaseolus vulgarisL.) was conducted on two types of soils, Ortho Red Yeollow Podzolic and Ortho Dark Red Latosol to compare 3 sources of nitrogen, namely: Chilean nitrate, Ammonium sulfate and Nitrocalcio (ammonium nitrate + calcium carbonate). The nitrogen was applied in the total quantity at the rate of 50 kg/ha of N at 7, 14 and 21 days after emergence of the plants. Nitrogen, independent of the dates of application and forms used, increased the yields by 94% at Monte Alegre do Sul and 29% at Tietê when compared with control (only PK). Statistical analyses showed that there was no significant difference in the production when different sources of nitrogen were used and also when applied at different dates.
