Spacing trials for dry bean variety "Goiano precoce"

SUMMARY

Nine spacing trials for the early dry bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) variety "Goiano precoce" have been carried out in two types of soil, Ortho Red Yellow and Ortho Dark Red Latosol for a period of two years. The spacing tested ranged from 0.20 m to 0.40 m between rows and from 0.10 m to 0.30 m between plants in the rows.

The best spacing combination under the condition of the experiment was 0.20 m X 0.10 m. But, taking into consideration the seed rate, cost of buying the seed, of planting, production, difficulty in using mechanical means of weeding, use of fungicide and insecticides, the most convenient spacing combination recomended would be 0.40 m X 0.10 m.
