SUMMARY

The effects of additions of fresh organic matter and fertilizer to the soil on nitrogen and potassium contents of the leaves of dry beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) were studied.

Results of four experiments showed that: (a) There was a significant increase in the N contents of the leaves associated with addition of nitrogen fertilizer to the soil; (b) Dry beans yields were correlated with the N contents of the petiole and with the K contents of leaflets; (o The incorporation of some organic matter to the soil increased significantly the N and K contents of the leaves in experiments carried out on a Latosolic Terra Roxa soil.
