SUMMARY

A preliminary study on the possibility of determining cotton fiber maturity using the Digital Fibrograph was made. A correlation analysis was carried out to find out the relationship between the value L²/P and the cotton fiber maturity determined by the microscope using NaOH 18%. L is the Fibrograph reading at 100%, and p is the weight, in grams, of the cotton fibers in the two combs of the Fibrograph. The correlation coeficient for 7 samples was found to be r = —0.806, which is significant at the 5% level.
