A New Editor-in-Chief

Judymara Lauzi Gozzani, TSA,M.D.

Editor-in-Chief

The Brazilian Journal of Anesthesiology has a new editor in chief and it is in this position that I talk for the first time to our readers.

It would be customary that in taking office, I would present to our readers community the new objectives to be reached by the journal. However, the way RBA has been managed in the last 9 years does not require, so far, that I have new objectives, but requires that I continue Dr. Luiz M. Cangiani's work and offer an RBA multimedia model to be enhanced as new possibilities arise.

RBA is available printed and regularly distributed every two months to members, in CD-Rom annually distributed with updated content, in SciELO electronic library and in SBA virtual library.

I am part of a generation who lived the best part of the 21st Century, who has conquered changes without suffering the bad side of such achievements, who has forged a profile of believing that it is always possible to give a step forward in an accountable way.

Within this scenario where good winds are blowing for some time, my challenge will be to consolidate in our community the habit of developing better and better scientific work.

Some years ago I had the opportunity of meeting Dr. Nicholas M. Greene, who visited the Discipline of Anesthesiology, UNIFESP, former Escola Paulista de Medicina, and who was the Editor in chief of the Journal of Anesthesia & Analgesia. During a conversation I asked him what to do to publish scientific work abroad and he answered me that there was a secret to writing papers or book chapters: "you learn how to write writing".

Creativity, persistence, discipline and ability to observe in the obvious what had never been observed are critical ingredients to plan, execute and spread scientific work. Encouraging these qualities in young people and more experienced investigators is the task I propose to myself in RBA. So, when the paper returns to the author with suggestions of the Editorial Council, this should not be seen as punishment or severe restriction, but rather as improvement. Writing and re-writing it will become better and better and will be abreast of the idea of creation, which is in fact the major reason for science.

RBA is a powerful communication means for our community, where younger people may awaken for research and more experienced ones may teach everything they have learned along their way. It should be the messenger arriving every two months to bring the miraculous balm transforming tedious routine into instigating challenge. The window though which one may look to learn, improve, suggest ...

There are no limits for those who make "trying to explain and trying to know" their routine and for such are kept young in the awareness of what they still need to know.

I am very honored for the responsibility I was given and which requires all efforts in the task of maintaining RBA in the position it has reached.

My proposal for the next 3 years is to follow this pathway and my challenge is to be abreast of those who came before me.
