The influence of IT and communication in nowadays society has resulted in human interaction ways never seen before. The growing use of computers and telecommunication networks, the development of devices and virtual network has broken the barriers imposed by time and space, transforming the daily life of all citizens, specially the research community.

In the last decade, the growing of Internet as a communication system, of diffusion and access to information has boosted the transformation of society in a network, generating a new culture, the cyberculture, as understood like an environment created by digital technologies where they develop themselves and establish new ways for social relationships. The cyberspace, for Lévy(1) is the space of opened communication by the worldwide interconnection of computers that allows to humanity the opportunity of perform a transforming project of the living process, as remarked by the collective imaginary, as he names this process of collective intelligence.

In this perspective, researchers that are heading projects or research groups, that in the past depended on paper-based vehicles of diffusion as the ones available on libraries, today have technological resources that make the contact more dynamic and potential with their colleagues. Thus, virtual communication expands the socialization of scientific production and the virtual space promotes the interchange of experiences and mutual cooperation also increasing the time a research can be concluded, by the interaction between researchers and from they with their readers.

The health is one of the areas with major development in today's world, incorporating new and complex knowledge, demanding that its professionals ally the high technology with a wide and multidisciplinary view of daily life.

As inserted in this context, and observing the need as pointed out by the changing process on information systems in our society, the Revista Brasileira de Enfermagem REBEn, inaugurates a new process of submission as provided by the Scielo methodology. The new system allows that some administrative steps be transferred to the electronic environment, requiring a new design of the manuscript flow as well as the integration among several systems as receiving and management system, for example; the monitoring of the editorial process by authors, the information request, sending of articles to reviewers and final composition of each journal issue.

The project was launched in March 2008 with the discussion about the submission process using the customized tool as available by the SciELO team which offers all the tools to make usable the interoperability between editors, technical advisors, authors and REBEn's subscribers, in a system that makes things easy the complex task of managing a scientific journal. It also seeks to attend the information management recommendations that characterize contemporaneous organizations. Thus, the REBEn, at this moment, is communicating the implantation of the Online Submission system.

Independently of inherent internal and external difficulties of changing processes, our goal is to overcome the barriers and resistance, empowering our commitment with the critical function that scientific knowledge represents in the professional process nursing is involved. Created to amplify the relevant scientific and technological diffusion for Brazilian Nursing, REBEn offers a tool to stimulate production, distribution and consume of scientific information, contributing for the growth of a research agenda capable of helping in the improvement of health conditions for the population.
