Active immunization against hepatitis B virus (HBV) with low-doses of plasma-derived vaccine by intradermal route: anti-HBs response after therr years of follow-up

We have recently published the results of active immunization against HBV with low-doses of plasma-derived vaccine by intradermal route in health-workers¹.

Three years after the immunization, we randomly selected 43 anti-HBs-positive workers in order to study the antibody serum response by ELISA technique (Abbott). The figure shows that 38 out of 43 (88.4%) and 35 out of 43 (81.4%) anti-HBs-positive health-workers presented an anti-HBs response above 10 times the cut-off level (considered a good antibody response) at one and 36 months after the immunization, respectively (Chi-square Yates corrected = 0.36, p = 0.55). No anti-HBs negative results were observed in this period of time.

This result shows that an active immunization against HBV with low-doses schedule of plasma-derived vaccine by intradermal route is effective after three years of follow-up.
