It is grateful to read this superb book, devoted to field malariologists, with emphasis on practical aspects in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of this important, and until now challenging, disease. The book, as its title depicted, covers most practical aspects of malaria control with a clear and readable text, enforcing the effective methods of vector control. The clinical pictures are clearly discussed, with the recent advances in therapy of severe malaria. The effective drugs are carefully exposed, with critical approach of its use. The vector analysis and control are extensively discussed, with practical and useful comments.
Some parts, devoted to the ever changing fields of malaria immunology and vaccine production, are critically exposed, confronting the field and the lab, showing the complex array of effective measures that can be used in the fight against this disease, and, in some extent, the perplexity of the field worker with the slow progression of the scientific knowledge in malaria.
We recommend this book to all scientists devoted to malaria, both to the bench worker to understand the complexity of malaria control and its field conditions; and to the new coming field worker to learn and understand the complex nature of this disease.
