REY, L. - Dicionário de termos técnicos de Medicina e Saúde. Rio de Janeiro, Guanabara-Koogan, 1999. 825p. 29cm. ISBN 85-277-0494-3

This dictionary is intended for the use of students, teachers and professionals in the fields of Medicine, Pharmacy, Odontology, Public Health, Nursing, Biomedicine and Biology. It is a very detailed and updated work about the diseases now existing in Brazil and those likely to exist in the future. Without neglecting the others, these diseases are approached according to their frequency and their importance as causes of morbidity and mortality, in entries that include aspects of etiology, pathology, diagnosis, treatment and prevention. Special emphasis is given to the issues referring to the pharmacology and pharmacodynamics of drugs usually found in our milieu, as well as some aspects concerning Preventive Medicine and Public Health.

The terminology used follows the standards of international, specialized institutions like the Council for International Organizations of Medical Sciences (CIOMS) and BIREME/PAHO.

The author, Dr. Luis Rey, Brazilian physician and professor, is a researcher of international renown for his books and papers on Parasitology, as well as books about the technique of writing scientific papers. Many experts had contributed to this work as advisors and were responsible for the critical review of the entries for specific themes in the scope of their specialties. Due to its comprehensiveness this work constitutes a precious and indispensable source of consultation and reference for health care professionals.
