Why carry out research in Nursing?

The Nursing researchers in our country are unanimous in saying ..

it is not because it is easy to research [by which can be understood the existence of infra-structure, presupposing funding] and

it is not because of the recognition of their activity [by which can be understood the wide dissemination of the results] ..

Brazilian researchers agree when they state that in spite of the recognition of the positive relation etween research in Nursing and the qualification of Nursing work, what is usually heard are negative comments toward their own activity and their results, or even denying the existence of processes and products.

To those who say that we should these issues carrying out only multidisciplinary research or in the backwash of other knowledge from the health field, we must say that our work processes deal with different objects and must be known in the contradictoriness of their on field, even before seeking connections with the other parts of the wider health picture. There is an ever greater number of objects coming under the scope of caring, for example, which forces us to think through and build more potent instruments for intervention.

The fourth and final issue of our magazine is full of articles of great importance in our work processes: are, Management and Teaching, all of which result from investigation based on the science of Nursing. Many of them have innovative approaches, that is, drawn up in the light of theoretical-conceptual guidelines that make possible this re-contextualization and re-conceptualization of the very Object of investigation.

I fully support the researchers that struggled on until reaching the point of publication of their work here, in this magazine, that has been one of the most important and traditional means in Brazil for the publication of Nursing research. I thank you all for sending in your originals, while also wishing all the researchers ...

Good reading!
