RBF results in 2009

The Brazilian Society of Fruticulture (SBF) started in 1970 when its first congress happened in the city of Campinas, and we had the privilege of being one of its founders.

In 1978, with the need of stimulating and disseminating the researches of this promising Society, this magazine was born.

Since its birth, every two years, the SBF holds its National Congress always with an increasing number of both papers and participants, demonstrating its active role in the Brazilian fruticulture development. The next congress will be held in October 2010 in Natal, also making these events a true integration of the Brazilian fruticulture.

The RBF, initially designed to be published quarterly, in 2008 began to be published every three months, with approximately 40 papers in each edition.

In this approach, we will try to present some data that confirm it as the magazine for national integration in the field of fruticulture:

1) NUMBER OF WORKS RECEIVED BY STATE

In 2009, among the 121 papers published up to this edition, we have the following distribution by state.

2) NUMBER OF RECEIVED PAPERS

In a comparative analysis from 2004 to 2009, we can evaluate the growth in the number of papers received for evaluation, showing the confidence of researchers in delegating this task to disseminate to the scientific community their hard work, showing, on the other hand, the number of reproved papers, demonstrating the care of those involved in this difficult task to approve or reprove a study, showing that the RBF is a magazine that excels at quality, due to the level that it reached.

3) NUMBER OF APPROVED PAPERS IN DIFFERENT VERSIONS

When we receive the papers, it is conducted one evaluation about the shape, size, citations, reference checking, etc., after that, 3 advisors are nominated to paper, and they try to cover all possible aspects in order to obtain an integrated analysis of each one. After receiving the considerations of the advisers, the paper is appreciated in a meeting with our employees, and it may be approved, reproved, or sent back to the authors for corrections or for addition of information. We shall show in the figure below how many versions are necessary to its approval or rejection, always giving the authors all possibilities to defend their points of view.

4) INDEXING

As for the indexing obtained by the RBF, we note that from 2001, indexed in CAB, AGRIS; AGROBASE; SciELO and in the ISI since December 2007, and in the Gale Group, since June 2009. It is worth mentioning that it is on line at www.scielo.br since 2001.

5) CONSOLIDATION OF THE NUMBER OF CONSULTANTS

We always try to consolidate the number of advisors, and we again emphasize that the merit is theirs. At each edition of the RBF we try to select from those who have had their works published, or the ones who have the minimum doctorate degree and invite them to join our group of advisors to provide training in this new and demanding activity, which is recommended by ABEC. And, it is with great satisfaction that we record the significant acceptance obtained, as well as in the quality of the given advice, showing that we should be on the right way about the quality of our RBF, and because of this we are pleased to inform you that we still have a list of 950 advisors from all Brazilian states and several international.

6) FOLLOW ON LINE

Since 2009, we began to deal with the papers in two versions:

• In the paper version, continuing with the procedures adopted up to the consolidation of the new version.

• Online version: the one that it was started for the works received in 2009. It was received (in this new version) 59 articles up to September, from a total of 215 received in both versions.

7) ADEQUACY OF THE PAGE ON THE INTERNET

Aiming to facilitate the relationship with the scientific community, we have improved our web mail = www.rbf.org.br, where it is possible to know the progress of the works among those which are with the assistance and those who are with the authors, and for ethics reasons, we do not include refused works, as you can access the magazine online at the www.scielo.br by clicking on the cover of any magazine you may want to check.

8) LOOKING FOR IMPROVING THE IMPACT

With the aim of being integrated with the CAPES project to improve the journal's impact at international level, for all approved papers received in 2009, and in the delivery of the final version in PDF to the SciELO, we will also include the English version. It also will be printed on paper, in Portuguese, for subscribers, members of the society, libraries, etc. Thus, at the online version it will be possible to access the magazine in Portuguese and English, and hopefully in the near future we will also be able to provide the Spanish version.

9) OBTAINED CONCEPT IN CAPES QUALIS

In the new classification of CAPES, we received the concept B2, which was the result of the editorial that referred to the June 2009 edition, entitled NEW IMPACT FACTOR, in which we have made considerations about it, but we congratulated upon CAPES in seeking to improve the impact factor of our magazine, and we are committed to quickly reach the A concept because we believe in the quality of our RBF, due to the wonderful group of advisors (950), which is responsible for the honors of the results.

10) FINANCIAL PART OF RBF

We try to show our authors that the policy of charging for publishing is in agreement with the procedures adopted by all the consulted magazines, and it is worth noting that the amount received for publication in the RBF covers only 1 / 3 of the annual costs of the magazine, and almost 1 / 3 is supported by the Brazilian Fruticulture Society (SBF), and up to now 1 / 3 is supported by CNPq and FAPESP to whom we extend our sincere thanks.

Thanks are due to our direct collaborators, our employees, the editorial board of the RBF, the board of the Society, the authors, and once again to our valued advisors.
