The New Brazilian Journal of Nephrology (BJN)

As Editor-in-Chief of the Brazilian Journal of Nephrology (BJN) we have indicated in a previous Editorial the need to consolidate our Journal in the international nephrology community through high level publications of Brazilian nephrologists and perhaps even attract Latin American (LA) papers since our Journal is the only one in this field indexed in Medline in LA.11 Riella MC. Brazilian Journal of Nephrology: looking ahead. J Bras Nefrol 2015;37:154-5. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.5935/0101-2800.20150024

Moving forward with this goal we have initiated in 2016 the on-line publication of the BJN in English with PDF files in Portuguese of every single paper. For those willing to pay for the extra cost, a printed version also in English will be available.

This initiative will be at this point costly to the Brazilian Society of Nephrology since all papers will have to be translated into English and those in English from abroad into Portuguese. All this has to be done by professional organizations. Nonetheless, we believe this effort is needed to pursue our goal of obtaining an Impact Factor from the Institute of Scientific Information (Thomson Reuters).22 Open Science. A new layout of the cover of the BJN has been developed and articles are now distributed in topics such as Basic Research, Clinical Investigation in the various areas: acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, renal transplantation, etc.

I reiterate my previous plea for all of you to consider the BJN for publication of your scientific work. With the help of all of you we will reach our goal.
