T he ABCD Brazilian Archives of Digestive Surgery, as can be seen by the "Presentation" above was designed by Professor Henrique Walter Pinotti, Professor of Digestive Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, University of São Paulo, Brazil and had its first number issued during the end month of 1986. So, this year of 2011 marks 25 years without interruption, published four times a year. Since the beginning, its aim was to publish advances in gastrointestinal surgery in the country, as well as their related areas such as nutrition, endoscopy, experimental surgery, surgical techniques, general surgery and other aspects of gastroenterology in general.

In the early years was edited by Professor Pinotti, aided by a group of assistants and teachers connected with it, including Ivan Cecconello and Bruno Zilberstein. By the late 90s Professor Pinotti moved the journal to be edited by the Brazilian College of Digestive Surgery (CBCD). And since then, it has been edited by the efforts of Profs. Bruno Zilberstein and Osvaldo Malafaia.

During all these years, ABCD has had its layout changed and modernized, making it more attractive and similar to the best international journals. In 2010, after efforts of several employees and the Board of CBCD it was approved and included in the SciELO collection, going to have more visibility, more value and present online for international and national consultation through the Internet.
