Abstract

Studies and research of and about the body have very recently become subject of investigation in the human sciences and also in the field of education. This article aims to present the production of the journal Pro-Posições, related to studies and research on this topic, developed from different approaches and theoretical frameworks, from 1990 to 2018. This production was searched by title, abstract, and keywords, using the following descriptors: corpo (body); cuerpo (body); educação física (physical education); ginástic (gymnastic); gímnic (gymn); dança (dance); esport (sport); lazer (leisure); recrea (recreation). It was possible to identify a significant set of 105 publications covering articles, presentations, reviews, and other texts, which are part of the different sections of the journal. This shows that this journal is tuned to emerging, original, and/or little-considered topics, and it can be recognized as a publication of the education area that is strongly open to broad and qualified dialogue.

Introduction

Pro-Posições was created in 1990 as a journal in the field of education in its varied and multiple interfaces, and it is a quarterly publication edited by the School of Education of Unicamp.

In 2009, when the journal completed 20 years of existence, Agueda Bernardete Bittencourt and Elizabeth Mercuri (2009)Bittencourt, A. B., & Mercuri, E. (2009, setembro/dezembro). wrote the article “Entre capas e letras, embates e crenças - 20 anos de Pro-Posições” (Between covers and letters, clashes and beliefs – 20 years of Pro-Posições), in which they intended to

understand or imagine – by the traits left in almost 60 numbers, from differences and oppositions that put journals and editors face to face – the story of a journal, whose place in the academic world has been conquered and consolidated over two decades. (p. 162)

Ten years after this article, we found that the story carefully narrated by the authors was gaining new contours and, in its trajectory, Pro-Posições continues to assume a prominent place among the journals in the area of education that significantly expanded the published themes. Pro-Posições is a journal tuned to emerging, original, and/or little-considered themes, among which we can include studies and research of and about the body, which, although only very recently have become the subject of investigation of the humanities and the field of education, have been present in the journal publications in different approaches and theoretical frameworks, which we will present in this article.

According to Góis Junior, Soares and Terra (2015)Góis Junior, E., Soares, C. L., & Terra, V. D. S. (2015, outubro/dezembro). Corpo-máquina: diálogos entre discursos científicos e a ginástica. , the body became an object of history in the field of human sciences because of the Annales School.

This is because this way of making history in which the body gains object status is typical of the Annales School and of the boundaries and interactions that the intellectuals who joined it establish, suggesting the need for approximation with the other Social Sciences, such as Education, Philosophy, Psychoanalysis, and Art. This understanding comes from thinkers such as Marcel Mauss (1936), who, with his classic study on body techniques, treated the body as the symbolic archive of societies, of their ways of educating and living, of habitus; Norbert Elias (1994; 1995)Elias, N. (1994). O processo civilizador: uma história dos costumes (Vol. 1, 2a ed.). Rio de Janeiro: Zahar. and his studies on civilizational processes published from 1939 on, in which he historicizes psychic economics from the contribution of Sociology and Psychoanalysis; Marc Bloch (1987; 2001), who claimed in the 1940s that it was necessary to sniff out human flesh and think about humans behind all social life and that a “…history more worthy of such a name than the timid essays to which our possibilities limit us today would consider the adventures of the body…” (2001, p. 91); Michel Foucault (1980, 1998, 2003, 2008), who produced numerous studies in the 1970s on the centrality of the body in medicine, in the power over bodies and life, in biopower, and in biopolitics. (pp. 974-975)

This is, therefore, a movement of thought that contributed to the consolidation of studies and research of and about the body6 6 It is important to point out a group of authors who have been dedicated to studies and research of and about the body, among which we mention the following references: Alain Ehrenberg (1991); Alain Corbin, Jean-Jacques Courtine and Georges Vigarello (2005); Alexandre Fernandez Vaz (1999, 2011, 2016a, 2016b); Ana Cristina Richter, Cristina Silveira Santos and Alexandre Fernandez Vaz (2018); Ana Márcia Silva (2001); Bernard Andrieu and Gilles Boëtsch (2008); Cadernos Cedes (1999); Carmen Lúcia Soares (2003, 2011, 2014); Communications (2007); Denise Bernuzzi de Sant’Anna (1994, 2003, 2005, 2011a, 2011b, 2014, 2016); Georges Vigarello (1978, 1988, 1996, 2004, 2010, 2014), Mari del Priore e Marcia Amantino (2011); Norbert Elias (1994). as an object of the human sciences and education. Thus, there is a multiple, polysemic, complex object that makes it possible to bring distinct dimensions of life in society to the center of the educational discussion.

Considering the body as an object in the field of education makes one approach it or even merge it to various fields that provide other perspectives of approximation and serve as clarification. Thus, thinking about its itineraries shows the existence of places in which, in a given conjuncture and in more precise and possible conditions of analysis, unprecedented interests for this object—the body—emerge, interests that triumph over other preexisting ones, taking over hitherto neglected areas of the social sphere. It also seems legitimate to describe and examine these meticulous and perennial concerns around health, prevention, and education in multiple spheres, which have been gathered in the current form of physical education (Vigarello, 1988Vigarello, G. (1988). Une histoire culturelle du sport: Techniques d’hier... et d’aujourd’hui. Paris: Robert Laffont.), but also gymnastics, dance, sports, leisure, and recreation.

Therefore, our article aims to present the production of the journal Pro-Posições, related to the studies and research of and about the body, from its creation in 1990 up to 2018. This production was searched by title, abstract, and keywords,7 7 From 1990 to number 1 of 1993, Pro-Posições articles had no abstract and keywords, thus our searches only considered the titles. From number 2 of 1993 on, the journal began presenting abstracts and keywords in the articles. using descriptors, selected because they are related to the theme, such as: corpo (body); cuerpo (body); educação física (physical education); ginástic (gymnastic); gímnic (gymn); dança (dance); esport (sport); lazer (leisure); recrea (recreation).8 8 To carry out the process of searching for productions, we had the collaboration of Henrique Nunes Marinho and Viviane da Luz Oliveira, undergraduates from Unicamp who took part in the Social Assistance Scholarship (BAS) program of the Student Support Service (SAE) of Unicamp, under guidance of Eliana Ayoub. We also had the help of Marília Del Ponte de Assis, who earned a PhD under the guidance of Eliana Ayoub, for the conference of the tables presented in this article. We found some difficulties in conducting the searches in the digitized archives of the journal between 1990 and 1999, because they are in a format that does not allow access to the words by search commands. From 2000 to 2003, most files allow this access and, from 2004 on, we no longer had this limitation.

Our choice to search for titles, abstracts, and keywords made it possible to conduct a broad survey, and this was the criterion for organizing the productions into tables, which will be presented later. Some reviews selected in these tables do not always bring the descriptors in the title but were included because they are part of dossiers aimed at studies and research of and about the body or refer to studies related to the theme. However, the number of journal productions that address studies and research on this topic is even greater than those listed in the tables of this article, since in many of them this theme appears secondarily. This could be found when we used the descriptors “corpo” or “cuerpo” and found several publications that mention them throughout the text,9 9 We identified over 190 productions with the descriptors “corpo” or “cuerpo” in the texts. although they do not appear in the fields selected for our searches.10 10 As we mentioned earlier, this search could not be done in files that were in a format that does not allow access to the words by search commands.

According to the established research criteria, we were able to identify a significant set of 105 publications between 1992 and 2018, covering articles, presentations, reviews, and other texts11 11 Pro-Posições publishes unpublished articles, essays, reviews, documents, and texts from out-of-catalog publications in its different sections: “Dossier,” “Articles,” “Diverse and Prose,” “Readings and Reviews”. (http://www.scielo.br/revistas/pp/pinstruc.htm, which included the different sections of the journal.

This shows that the journal was/is tuned to emerging, original, and/or little-considered topics in the area of education, as is the case with the theme addressed here. The compiled material shows that Pro-Posições has welcomed on its pages, since its first years of circulation, studies and research of and about the body from different perspectives, as we will see below by the subjects gathered in each of the decades of its existence.

From its creation to 1999: body, dance, and physical education

Since its creation and in its first decade, 19 productions refer to studies of and about the body: 12 articles, 06 reviews, and 01 presentation.

The first publications took place in 1992 (v. 3, n. 2, May/Aug.), being an article and a review. The last publication of the period was in 1998 (v. 9, n. 2, May/Aug.), with a thematic issue totally dedicated to dance, organized by Isabel A. Marques https://www.fe.unicamp.br/publicacoes/lancamentos/1963), containing an editorial, eight articles, and a review. This issue addressed topics such as: body; contemporary dance and education; dance aimed at boys and girls; dance inserted in youth culture and school; relationships between dance, gender, and a feminist and critical pedagogy; American modern dance; problematics of dance teaching, its techniques, and aesthetic currents in relation to the school curriculum; dance in the field of somatic education; and, also, dance and Pina Bausch’s Tanztheater.

Although we have two productions on other topics, such as violence in the body of workers and child’s body scheme, the theme of dance predominates, since the thematic number of the journal was totally dedicated to this subject.

Still in this decade, we found some book reviews on school physical education; psychomotor education; history of physical education; and history of hygienic practices.

In Table 1, below, we bring the titles12 12 Some short titles are different from the full titles, especially in the thematic issue of Dance published in 1998. This difference also occurs later in other journal issues. In our tables, we chose the titles that appear on the links of the full articles. and authors, as well as the data of publications and the links of access to the texts.

Table 1

In this initial scenario, we verified, therefore, an interest in studies and research of and about the body, as well as a welcome to them, which, as we will see later, intensified in the following years.

From 2000 to 2009: consolidation of studies and research of and about the body

In its second decade of existence, Pro-Posições continued with studies and research of and about the body around dance and physical education, while also expanding towards related topics, such as leisure and recreation. In addition to this thematic expansion, the journal began to delimit with more precision and depth the problematics of research, and the studies on the theme presented a strong dialogue with the humanities. In this sense, we can observe the consolidation of this theme in the set of texts published in this decade.

This period included a total of 40 productions, with 32 articles, 05 reviews, 01 dossier presentation, and 02 texts in the section “Diverse and Prose”.13 13 This section appeared with its name in the plural – “Diverses and Proses”. From 2008, it was named in the singular “Diverse and Prose”.

It was in this decade that the journal consolidated its section “Dossier,” and the first one was called “Special education and inclusive policies,” organized by Maria Teresa Egler Mantoan and Regina Maria de Souza (https://www.fe.unicamp.br/publicacoes/lancamentos/2120), published in 2001 (v. 12, n. 2-3, Jul./Nov.).

Two years later, in 2003 (v. 14, i. 2, May/Aug.), the dossier “The visibility of the body,” organized by Carmen Lúcia Soares (https://www.fe.unicamp.br/publicacoes/lancamentos/2205), composed of a presentation and nine articles, inaugurated a discussion on topics that deal with the historicity of the body; the signs of death; feeding as a spectacle; the interface between medicine, hygiene, and education; the cultural industry and the debate on the body in contemporary society; the pedagogies of body and health; aesthetic interventions in the body; body and sexuality; and body and nature.

Although this phase began “timidly,” with only one publication in 2000, none in 2001 and two in 2002, from 2003, we saw the increase of productions related to studies and research of and about the body, as explained earlier, and we registered publications in all subsequent years. In the previous decade, for four years—1990, 1991, 1994, and 1999—no such productions appeared.

From 2000 to 2009, Pro-Posições also published the following themes: body and childish gestures in cinema; childhood images in parks; eroticization of children’s bodies; place of the body in theatrical games; debate about the body in a philosophical and aesthetic perspective and its virtualization in the contemporary world; understanding of the possibilities and forms of memory inscribed in the body and language; curriculum and body; sports body practices; a history of school uniforms; and the female body and images of women in Revista Educação Física (1932 to 1945).

Body modifications such as the use of piercings, scarifications, tattoos, and aesthetic implants; the Greek statuary and the aesthetic and hygienic assumptions of the body; the clownesque body; dance in different approaches; the languages of gymnastics and dance; and the relationships between health, gender, and sexuality were also topics included in the different productions.

Regarding physical education, in a more specific way, we found articles related to the evaluative practices and didactic actions in classes, as well as legal guidance in the field of high school and professional training in this area.

Concerning leisure and recreation, we identified articles that analyze the public policies of this sector in the relationship between school and sport; the representations of those excluded at leisure, work, and family; the leisure of the child in the rural world in its connection with the school; and worker recreation between 1920 and 1940.

As for reviews, we found topics related to gymnastics; school physical education; the field of arts—including studies on dance, rhythm, and music; the body in the scope of humanities and education. We also observed the circulation of new themes that had not been addressed in the reviews of the first decade.

Another point to mention concerns the publications in the section “Diverse and Prose,” inaugurated in this period. Again, dance comes into play, with the translation of parts I to IV of the book The Modern Dance, by John Martin (published in 1933).

As we did previously, below we present Table 2 with the data of publications.

Table 2
Publications of studies and research of and about the body in the journal Pro-Posições from 2000 to 2009

What draws our attention to this period is the significant increase in publications, from 19 to 40, more than double compared to the previous decade.

If, on the one hand, this expansion shows the movement of consolidation of the journal as an important journal in the field of education and related areas, as Bittencourt and Mercuri (2009)Bittencourt, A. B., & Mercuri, E. (2009, setembro/dezembro). Entre capas e letras, embates e crenças. 20 anos de Pro-Posições. Pro-Posições, 20(3[60]), 161-178. fromhttp://www.scielo.br/scielo.php?scri...
state, on the other hand, it brings evidence that Pro-Posições has come to be considered by authors from different fields and institutions as an important academic space for discussions around the themes related to studies and research of and about the body.

From 2010 to 2018: a broad and qualified dialogue of the theme

In the last analyzed decade, including every year of the period, we have 46 publications about studies and research of and about the body, with 39 articles, 01 review, 02 dossier presentations, and 04 texts in the section “Diverse and Prose”.

Early in the decade, in 2010 (v. 21, i. 2, May/Aug.), a dossier on studies and research of and about the body in its relations with art was published, called “Entrelugares do corpo e da arte” (Interconnections of body and art) organized by Márcia Strazzacappa, Ana Angélica Albano, and Eliana Ayoub (http://www.scielo.br/scielo.php?script=sci_issuetoc&pid=0103-730720100002& lng= pt&nrm=iso). This dossier, composed of eight articles, includes topics that cover discussions about the relationships between body and word; the body between science and technology; the body, gesture, and expression in Merleau-Ponty; the relationships between dance, body, and drawing; and somatic education and its relationships with dance. It is interesting to note that this dossier resumes some themes that were addressed in 1998, in the thematic number dedicated to dance, but now with other delimitations. Although the last two articles in the dossier – “Jung e a arte” (Jung and art) and “Com a cabeça nas nuvens” (With the head in the clouds) – do not bring any of the descriptors used in our searches for titles, abstracts, or keywords, they are being considered here, since they have the general topic of the dossier.

The following year, the dossier entitled “Pedagogias, Racionalidades e Representações do/sobre o corpo (XIX-XX)” (Pedagogies, Rationalities, and Representations of/about the body (XIX-XX)), organized by Luciano Mendes de Faria Filho (http://www.scielo.br/scielo.php?script=sci_issuetoc&pid=0103-730720110003&lng= pt&nrm=iso), brings new themes in six articles that deal with sportswear in its historicity; the history of school physical education as a place of body cultivation; the body and history of education in Afrânio Peixoto; representations of the children’s body in Mexican textbooks; the meanings of health and disease in female bodies in the 19th century; and also the body practices in Juiz de Fora in the city press. We can identify that such discussions relate to those that are part of the dossier “A visibilidade do corpo” (The visibility of the body), published in 2003.

Among the other 25 texts published in the “Articles” section or other dossiers, we found some addressing the school context and teacher education, approaching topics such as mimesis and body education at school; heterotopia in physical education classes; physical education and sociability at school; evaluation in school physical education; cultural and sports activities and the school life of students; historical-cultural theory in the context of physical education; teacher knowledge and continuing training in physical education; teacher training; body and identity formation processes.

Other articles discuss topics such as body education by nature; education of the senses and its pedagogical implications; exposure of bodies; homophobia and sexism; the transvestite body, gender, and sexuality; corporeity, disability, and communicative action; different philosophical and sociological approaches in the relationship with body studies; the moral training of young people in prestigious social/sports clubs; and body uses and symbolic hierarchies.

Body and theater; body and cinema; body and poetry; body and childhood; body culture and early childhood education; dance and education of femininity; dance in Brazilian popular culture; and dance evaluation at university festivals of physical education are also topics addressed in the articles of this period.

In this search, we also found an article addressing banking education and a liberating pedagogy about the body of educators, based on the work of Paulo Freire, which becomes increasingly necessary in these dark times for the Brazilian society and, in particular, for education.

We also found the review of a book that discusses sexuality and queer theory and four texts in the section “Diverse and Prose” (including two translations), two of them with topics already addressed in other issues, such as music and education in Jaques-Dalcroze, and two others that propose reflections on the social perception of the body based on Pierre Bourdieu’s studies.

Table 3 presents the data about the publications of the period.

Table 3
Publications of studies and research of and about the body in the journal Pro-Posições from 2010 to 2018

In this decade, we noticed, once again, an increase in the number of productions focusing on studies and research of and about the body, with 06 more publications than the previous decade, from 40 to 46. In this context, we emphasize the importance of the publication of 02 dossiers around this theme. Regarding reviews, we observed a significant drop from 05 to 01. However, just as we had the publication of 07 more articles, there was also an increase in the number of texts published in the section “Diverse and Prose,” from 02 to 04.

We once again highlight the variety of topics in the productions of this period, which allows us to recognize the presence of recurring subjects that appear from the first publications and to identify the emergence of new themes. Such topics, given their originality, help us understand and imagine possible border disruptions that, by not always obvious paths, studies and research of and about the body can produce in the dialogue between different fields of knowledge. Before this, we can state that this past decade has certainly pointed out the process of consolidating publications of and about the body in the journal Pro-Posições.

Final considerations

The 105 texts selected in our research and included in the tables organized by decades show only a part of what Pro-Posições has been publishing regarding studies and research of and about the body. As we have already mentioned, this number of publications becomes even more expressive when we extend our searches, using the descriptors “corpo” or “cuerpo” throughout the texts, not limiting ourselves to the title, abstract, and keywords. In this case, 195 titles were identified,14 14 From 1990 to 1999, we have a total of 18 productions: 06 publications with abstracts of dissertations and theses containing 31 abstracts concerning studies and research of and about the body (from 1990 to the first issue of 1997, the journal published abstracts of dissertations and theses); 01 presentation and 06 articles in the section “Cinevisões” (this section was created in the issue number 1 of 1998 and remained active until the first issue of 1999); 03 articles; 02 reviews. From 2000 to 2009, we have a total of 103 productions: 86 articles (54 of them in the “Dossier” section); 05 dossier presentations; 01 essay; 08 reviews; 03 texts in the “Diverse and Prose” section. From 2010 to 2018, we have a total of 74 productions: 61 articles (21 of them in the “Dossier” section); 03 dossier presentations; 08 reviews; 02 texts in the “Diverse and Prose” section. including those that only mention “body” in the text and those who deepen the discussions around this theme.15 15 In this context, some issues of the journal in which the descriptors “corpo” or “cuerpo” appear throughout the texts draw our attention. In 2002 (v. 13, n. 3, Sep./Dec.), in the dossier “Reflexões sobre a violência na sociedade contemporânea” (Reflections on violence in contemporary society), organized by Maria Inês Rosa (https://www.fe.unicamp.br/publicacoes/lancamentos/2170), we have 06 of the 10 articles that compose it. In 2003 (v. 14, n. 3, Sep./Dec.), they appear in 05 (01 is in the table) of the 08 articles of the dossier “Educação infantil e gênero” (Early childhood education and gender), organized by Ana Lúcia Goulart de Faria (https://www.fe.unicamp.br/publicacoes/lancamentos/2221). The dossier “Temas e tendências na perspectiva histórico-cultural” (Themes and trends from the historical-cultural perspective), organized by Luci Banks Leite (https://www.fe.unicamp.br/publicacoes/lancamentos/2361) and published in 2006 (v. 17, n. 2, May/Aug.), brings the descriptors in 05 articles (01 mentioned in the table) out of the total of 07. In 2007 (v. 18, n. 2, May/Aug.), in the dossier “Em multiplicidades nomeia-se currículo” (The curriculum is named in multiplicities), organized by Antonio Carlos Rodrigues de Amorim (https://www.fe.unicamp.br/publicacoes/lancamentos/2437), we found 06 texts (01 presentation and 05 articles) among the 09 that are part of the Dossier. In 2008 (v. 19, n. 2, May/Aug.), the dossier “Educação, Gênero e Sexualidade” (Education, Gender, and Sexuality) was published, organized by Joaquim Brasil Fontes (http://www.scielo.br/scielo.php?script=sci_issuetoc&pid=0103-730720080002&lng=pt&nrm=iso), in which all 07 articles have the descriptors “corpo” or “cuerpo” throughout the texts (02 are in the table). In 2013 (v. 24, n. 3, Sep./Dec., http://www.scielo.br/scielo.php?script=sci_issuetoc&pid=0103-730720130003&lng=pt&nrm=iso), 08 articles appear (01 in the table), 03 of which among the 05 of the dossier (Dossier “Bebês e Crianças Bem Pequenas em Contextos Coletivos de Educação” (Babies and Very Small Children in Collective Contexts of Education), organized by Cristina Coll Delgado and Altino José Martins Filho), and all 05 texts of the “Articles” section, in addition to 02 out of 03 reviews. Finally, in the last publication of 2018 (v. 29, n. 3, Sep./Dec., http://www.scielo.br/scielo.php?script=sci_issuetoc&pid=0103-730720180003&lng=pt&nrm=iso), we have almost half of the publications, 12 (05 mentioned in the table) among 28 articles. These are just some examples of the scope and diversity of studies and research of and about the body addressed in Pro-Posições. Therefore, we are facing a volume of 300 publications, present in the 88 editions of the journal (until December 2018), of a total of 1,265 published texts (among articles, editorials, reviews, and others) in these 30 years of existence of Pro-Posições.

Considering this expressive volume of publications, covering a plurality of theoretical and methodological perspectives around studies and research of and about the body, we recognize Pro-Posições as a journal in the area of education strongly open to dialogue, which includes emerging and original themes.

Bittencourt and Mercuri (2009)Bittencourt, A. B., & Mercuri, E. (2009, setembro/dezembro). Entre capas e letras, embates e crenças. 20 anos de Pro-Posições. Pro-Posições, 20(3[60]), 161-178. , when analyzing the complex systems of evaluation and ranking of journals, emphasize that “facing the risk of innovating, of welcoming strange texts and themes can be an antidote against the massification of academic culture” (p. 178). Surely, Pro-Posições has been using this “antidote’ in these 30 years of existence, and we think that, precisely for this, it has been consolidated as a prominent journal in the scenario of education and related areas.

Finally, we think that conducting a survey of this nature in other important journals in the area of education may bring relevant comparative information that allows us to understand even more deeply the impacts and repercussions of Pro-Posições regarding studies and research of and about the body in dialogue with education and the human sciences.

From 1990 to number 1 of 1993, Pro-Posições articles had no abstract and keywords, thus our searches only considered the titles. From number 2 of 1993 on, the journal began presenting abstracts and keywords in the articles.
  • 8
To carry out the process of searching for productions, we had the collaboration of Henrique Nunes Marinho and Viviane da Luz Oliveira, undergraduates from Unicamp who took part in the Social Assistance Scholarship (BAS) program of the Student Support Service (SAE) of Unicamp, under guidance of Eliana Ayoub. We also had the help of Marília Del Ponte de Assis, who earned a PhD under the guidance of Eliana Ayoub, for the conference of the tables presented in this article.
  • 9
We identified over 190 productions with the descriptors “corpo” or “cuerpo” in the texts.
  • 10
As we mentioned earlier, this search could not be done in files that were in a format that does not allow access to the words by search commands.

Pro-Posições publishes unpublished articles, essays, reviews, documents, and texts from out-of-catalog publications in its different sections: “Dossier,” “Articles,” “Diverse and Prose,” “Readings and Reviews”.
  • 12
Some short titles are different from the full titles, especially in the thematic issue of Dance published in 1998. This difference also occurs later in other journal issues. In our tables, we chose the titles that appear on the links of the full articles.
  • 13
This section appeared with its name in the plural – “Diverses and Proses”. From 2008, it was named in the singular “Diverse and Prose”.

From 1990 to 1999, we have a total of 18 productions: 06 publications with abstracts of dissertations and theses containing 31 abstracts concerning studies and research of and about the body (from 1990 to the first issue of 1997, the journal published abstracts of dissertations and theses); 01 presentation and 06 articles in the section “Cinevisões” (this section was created in the issue number 1 of 1998 and remained active until the first issue of 1999); 03 articles; 02 reviews.

In this context, some issues of the journal in which the descriptors “corpo” or “cuerpo” appear throughout the texts draw our attention. In 2002 (v.
