In the challenging landscape of Brazilian psychology journals, a multitude of hurdles stands in the way of their continued existence. To ensure their sustainability, a comprehensive set of policies is essential. These policies encompass: (1) Adequate Financing Policies: The lifeblood of these journals, adequate financing is crucial to prevent overreliance on publication fees as the sole means of survival; (2) Open Access Policies: Embracing the prevailing open-access trend in psychological research is paramount. Additionally, it’s essential to utilize licensing options like Creative Commons, allowing for the sharing and use of published content for non-commercial purposes; (3) International Partnership Policies: The ongoing process of internationalizing scientific production in psychology can greatly benefit from collaborations between national and foreign journals. Such partnerships can involve sharing reviewers or even joint editorial efforts; (4) Peer Review Process Maintenance: Ensuring the efficacy of the peer review process is of utmost importance. Manuscripts should be rigorously evaluated for their originality and relevance. Exploring open science strategies, such as revealing reviewers’ identities upon publication or enabling them to view each other’s comments, can be beneficial; (5) Training Policies for Editors and Reviewers: Training programs must be in place to equip editors and reviewers with the best scientific publishing practices, thereby enhancing the quality of the editorial process; (6) Manuscript Dissemination Policies: Extending the reach of journals and increasing their impact necessitates effective dissemination strategies. These may encompass social media utilization, active participation in scientific events, and collaboration with professional societies; (7) Technological Infrastructure Support: To effectively manage content, employ online publishing platforms, and maintain digital archives, journals must invest in suitable technological infrastructure; (8) Transparency and Good Editorial Practices: Fostering trust in the integrity of scientific journals is contingent upon implementing transparent policies. This includes disclosing potential conflicts of interest, providing clear author guidelines, and establishing ethical standards; and (9) Training Policies for Postgraduate Students: Offering training programs to postgraduate students, educating them about scientific publishing processes, and elucidating the nuances of understanding reviewers’ feedback is essential.
