SELECTED ARTICLES PRESENTED AT THE 9th BRAZILIAN CONGRESS ON CATALYSIS
In 1981, on behalf of the Instituto Brasileiro de Petróleo (Brazilian Institute of Petroleum), the first meeting for Brazilian researchers on the field of catalysis was held in Rio de Janeiro. Carried out under the name of Seminário de Catálise, its aim was to bring together professionals from the Brazilian industry and university related to the field of homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis. Since then, this seminar has been held at a two-year interval in one of the following Brazilian states: Bahia, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul or São Paulo.
Currently, researchers from several countries take part in this meeting and topics in areas such as adsorption, polymerization and chemical reactors are among the subjects of works presented during its sessions. Due to this growing interest and participation, at the 8th Seminar held in 1995 in Nova Friburgo, RJ, the name of this meeting was changed to Congresso Brasileiro de Catálise. It is also worth mentioning, as a proof of consolidation of this research area, that the Brazilian Society of Catalysis was founded at the 9th Congress, held last year in Águas de Lindoia, SP, to organize and stimulate the activities in the area of catalysis in our country.
The Scientific Committee of the 9th Congress, presided by Dr. Gilberto Marques da Cruz, received and judge more than 200 abstracts. The full texts were evaluated by two referees, and 123 works were approved for oral or poster presentation and publication in the Anais do 9° Congresso Brasileiro de Catálise. In addition to these works, seven researchers were invited to present Plenary Conferences on themes of general interest. The Congress also offered two another sessions, entitled Recent Research Results and Industry Applications, in which a total of twenty posters were presented.
The Scientific Committee invited some authors of approved works to published them in the Brazilian Journal of Chemical Engineering or in Applied Catalysis, one of the most important international journals in the field. In this regard, we would like to acknowledge of the Editor of BJChE, Dr. Milton Mori, which made this publication possible.
