PREFACE
Dear Colleague,
This is a special issue of the Brazilian Journal of Chemical Engineering in which selected papers of the XIX Interamerican Congress of Chemical Engineering / XIII Brazilian Congress of Chemical Engineering / I Brazilian Congress of Phase Equilibrium and Fluid Properties for Chemical Process Design are published.
The Congress intends to be a forum of scientific and academic exchanges of knowledge and opinion on relevant topics of Chemical Engineering. All papers published in the special issue of the Brazilian Journal of
Chemical Engineering were presented at the Event.
At the onset of the twenty-first century, the Congress will stress innovations in several areas of Chemical Engineering, highlighting the themes "Scientific and Technological Innovations in Chemical Engineering and Perspectives for the next Century". The plenary lectures reflect specifically these challenges, visions, criticisms and opportunities, and were given by: Professor H. Scott Fogler, Professor John P. OConnell , Professor H. Scott Fogler, Professor Jack R. Howard, Professor Manfred Morari, Professor Rubens S. Ramalho, Professor Sergio Mascarenhas, and Professor Ruben G. Carbonell.
The technical program covers the following topics:
- Chemical Reactor Engineering and Catalysis
- Separation Engineering and Thermodynamics
- Transport Phenomena and Particulate Systems
- Modelling, Optimization and Control
- Environmental Engineering
- New Materials
- Biochemical Engineering
This International Congress was organized in conjunction by the School of Chemical Engineering, UNICAMP, and the Departament of Chemical Engineering, UFSCar, with an expressive participation of Chemical Engineering communities of several parts of the world.
The XIII Brazilian Congress of Chemical Engineering / XIX Interamerican Congress of Chemical Engineering / I EQUIFASE and the business fair were hold in Águas de São Pedro, SP, Brazil, September, 24-27, 2000.
We hope that this Special Issue, together with the Conference Proceedings will be a reference document to the scientific and industrial communities and will specially contribute to the progress in Chemical Engineering.
