Best 2005 papers awards

When the scientific editorial board received the assignment of coordinating the Anais Brasileiros de Dermatologia, several goals were established with the main purpose of improving the the journal's quality and enhancing its visibility. As mentioned in the last issue Editorial, the growing access statistics to the Anais website, created in 2005, may be an indicator to testify that this goal has been solidly reached.

The awarding of the best research papers and clinical case reports was also a strategy created in order to increment the quality of our journal, as it calls the authors' attention to the choice of the journal as a publication vehicle for their work and it is an incentive for them to be more thorough in their preparation. Below we publicize the result of the selection process of the best papers published in volume 80, during the year 2005, which will be given the prizes awarded by the Brazilian Society of Dermatology.

We use the opportunity to inform that last February we published the latest update of the 'Uniformity Requirements for originals submitted to biomedical journals' (Vancouver standards), the English version of which can be looked up at http://www.icmje.org/.

Also available in our website is the Portuguese version of the update referring to October 2005. It is extremely important to the Journal that authors, and especially our reviewers, be familiar with these rules and always refer back to them as they write or evaluate a scientific paper to submit for publication.

We also recommend the reading of the materials available at the World Association of Medical Editors – WAME - website, http://wame.org, which treats relevant themes for those involved in scientific production and publication, such as the topics of authorship, plagiarism, ethics, review by peers, publication refusal, publicity, on-line publication, free access, and other issues.

We wish you make the most of the papers in the present issue.
