Materials Research - Ibero-american Journal of Materials

Judicious, fair and educative!

This issue of Materials Research contains articles selected from regular submissions in the period 2006 - 2007, and also a number of papers that were carefully chosen from hundreds presented at the at 17th CBECIMAT (Brazilian Congress of Materials Science and Engineering) held in Iguaçu Falls, Brazil, in November 2006. The review process for most of these papers was done via internet.

Dozens of regular articles are being reviewed at present. We are also analyzing a number of papers presented at the IV Brazilian Congress on Carbon, held in Gramado, Brazil, and at the II Symposium of Materials Science of Minas Gerais, Ouro Preto, Brazil, both in November 2007. Articles carefully selected from the annual meeting of the Associação Brasileira de Metalurgia e Materiais (ABM) in 2006 will be published in the next issues. We emphasize once more that we do not publish conference proceedings; instead we judiciously select papers presented at different conferences, which are viewed by our team as important sources of articles for thematic or regular issues. Such conference papers are analyzed by our referees using the same criteria applied for the regular papers.

Authors are often concerned with the time period taken for analysis and publication of their articles. The figure below shows our statistics for papers submitted and published in the period 2006-2007. The most frequent time period was 2 months, spreading up to 12 months. Obviously such time period depends on several variables, among then how fast the referees send back to us their reviews for the first time, and then how long the authors take to send their revised version, plus the time for a second (sometimes a third) analysis by the referees and editor. Thus, papers which only require minor changes are published much faster.

We gratefully aknowledge CNPq and CAPES for covering the editorial and printing costs of this issue of Mat. Res. The financial support from Departamento de Engenharia de Materiais, Universidade Federal de São Carlos - DEMa/UFSCar - for mailing expenses; from the Vitreous Materials Laboratory - LaMaV/UFSCar for fax and telephone expenses are also acknowledged. Associação Brasileira de Metalurgia e Materiais – ABM – and Associação Brasileira de Polímeros – ABPol - covered the editorial assistant's salary. The secretaries of the Associação Brasileira de Cerâmica – ABC - ABPol and ABM have helped advertising Materials Research and with the management of its subscriptions and financial resources.

At present Materials Research is classified in the QUALIS-Capes by its several committees as shown below:

This table shows that except for the Physics and Mathematics committees, all the others view Materials Research as an excellent (A) or good (B) periodical!

Materials Research is indexed in the Chemical Abstracts, World Ceramic Abstracts, International Pool of Glass Abstracts, Scielo and in the powerful electronic database SCOPUS (http://www.scopus.com/scopus/home.url), which allows one to search articles by title, keyword, author name, etc., and also shows article citations. Indexation by the ISI is underway.
