MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

A new time

In 2010, the Brazilian Psychiatric Association [ABP, in the Portuguese acronym] began, with the election of its new board, a time of work focused on the valorization of psychiatry and of the psychiatrist. One of the lines of action in the framework of this undertaking is the Revista Brasileira de Psiquiatria (RBP), a scientific publication deserving of the support an admiration of all our members.

The RBP, due to its undeniable ranking among the most prestigious scientific journals in our country, receives a growing number of submissions to be reviewed by its editors. A part of the excellence achieved by the journal is the result of hard work by our editors and reviewers; work that is not always noticed or recognized by the members of ABP.

Within the new strategic planning of ABP and consonant with the work promise made during the campaign for the board elections, the first edition of the project ABP Itinerante was held in Belo Horizonte, in February, assembling our affiliate associations from Minas Gerais and connecting the ABP with the State and County Health Departments and Public Prosecution Offices. The agenda of the meeting advocated for the excellence in the care delivered to the mentally ill and for better working conditions to doctors. The next edition of ABP Itinerante has already been scheduled to take place on March 25 and 26 in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul.

To ensure continued scientific improvement, a set of top-quality on-site and online courses is under preparation for the Continuing Education Program to guarantee the quality of psychiatric knowledge.

With these and other actions currently underway, the board of the ABP demonstrates its unequivocal efforts to promote the scientific sphere and the share of professional defense which it has committed itself to in the performance of the functions assigned to this board by the members.

Dr. Antônio Geraldo da Silva
