The Revista da Sociedade Brasileira de Fonoaudiologia begins to be published entirely in English and Portuguese in 2012. It is one more challenge that I am sure will be shared and met by the scientific community of Communication Sciences and Disorders. The bilingual publication of the Revista aims to increase its international impact maintaining its role in the diffusion of the knowledge that is developed by and for the Brazilian speech-language pathologist and audiologist.

The first Original Article has the title Surface electromyography of masticatory muscles in individuals with temporomandibular disorder submitted to acupuncture. It reports a study with 40 women with ages between 20 and 40 years conducted by Borin, Corrêa, Silva and Milanesi.

The Performance of Brazilian elderly on the 100 ml water swallowing test was studied by Moreira and Pereira with 18 institutionalized elderly subjects. The data obtained through simple assessment procedures are fundamental to the clinical practice.

The Language alterations in elderly patients with dementia assessed with the MAC Battery were studied by Koehler, Gindri,Bós and Mancopes in a group of 13 subjects. The authors concluded that this test is useful to the characterization of this population.

Pagliarin, Brancalioni and Keske-Soares studied the Phonological therapy based on the stimulation of single sounds and groups of sounds focusing on the Multiple Oppositions approach and the ABAB-Withdrawal and Multiple Probes approach and concluded that both methods produced positive results.

In another work by the same group Wiethan and Mota studied the Occurrence of repair strategies for fricative phonemes in phonological disorder in 87 children with ages between 4 and 8 years and concluded that more complex fricatives are associated with more repair strategies and more severe phonological disorders are associated to larger occurrences of these strategies.

The Influence of visual stimuli in the written production of deaf signers with complaints of writing impairment was assessed by Lustre, Ribeiro, Ferreira and Cárnio. The authors concluded that the both types of visual stimuli used in the study did not result in different written productions.

Hearing aid adaptation in users assisted by the Unified Health System is the title of the research reported by Buriti and Oliveira in which 32 hearing impaired adults were assessed.

In another article about the same issue Flores and Iório report a research about Activity limitations in the elderly: a study of new hearing aid users using the APHAB questionnaire. This self-assessment questionnaire was applied to 30 elders before and after three months of hearing aid use.

Posturography with virtual reality stimuli in different vestibular dysfunctions is the title of the research reported by Yamamoto and Ganança. It is a retrospective study of the files of 100 subjects between 7 and 86 years.

Insert earphones: application to avoid collapse of the external auditory canal is the article presented by Marangoni, Scharlach, Silveira, Calais and Gil. The authors aimed to determine the efficacy of insert earphones in cases of collapsed external auditory canals.

226 Hz and 1 kHz tympanometry in infants with risk indicators for hearing loss is the study conducted by Carmo, Almeida and Lewis with 142 infants. The authors conclude that the probe tone of 1 kHz is the most appropriate to evaluate infants under 6 months of age.

Azevedo and Oliveira present the study Hearing of professional violinists: cochlear function and auditory symmetry study that aimed to verify the occurrence of hearing disorders in violinists and if there is an association with the more exposed ear.

Ferreira and Andrade report the study Exhibitions about Human Communication in interactive science museums where the existence of exhibitions or displays about Human Communication was assessed in 60 national and foreign museums.

The Validation of the Vocal Performance Questionnaire in Brazil was conducted by Paulinelli, Gama and Behlau. The questionnaire was applied to 325 individuals, 160 with vocal complaints and 165 ones without vocal complaints, with similar distribution of gender and age.

Teacher specialized in visual impairment: the meaning of the voice is the Case Report presented by Villas Boas, Ferreira and Viola. The authors studied a group of teachers with normal and subnormal vision and blind teachers.

Auditory processing, reading and writing in the Silver-Russell syndrome: case report is the title of the article presented by Garcia, Salvador, Moraes, Feniman and Crenitte. The authors concluded that the patient described presents impairments in learning to read and write that might be secondary to the Silver-Russell syndrome but that can also be due to deficits in auditory processing abilities.

The literature review paper presented by Befi-Lopes and Toba refers to the question of How do children and adolescents with Specific Language Impairment comprehend verbal information?. The authors point out that this group of children may present important oral comprehension difficulties, which may be explained by either lack of linguistic knowledge or inefficient higher-order linguistic processing operations.

In the New reflexions article Fernandes and Amato present a book about several different issues related to the Autism Spectrum Disorders published in 2011.

Martins-Reis and Santos reviewed the paper Maximizing health literacy and client recall in a developing context: speech–language therapist and client perspectives published in 2011 in the International Journal of Language and Communication Disorders.

I must express my gratitude for the trust shown by the elected board by maintaining the editors of the SBFa journals. This is a project to which we have been intensely dedicated and the possibility to continue it is an evidence of the maturity of "our" Society. I also believe that it shows the support to the work that has been done and it is always very nice. Our commitment is to maintain our dedication and constantly seek the journals' improvement, counting on the continuous collaboration of authors, reviewers and readers.

Thank you.
