EDITORIAL
This special edition of Brazilian Archives of Biology and Technology features the selected studies presented in the IV Latin-American Congress of Metrology - METROSUL IV, in Foz do Iguaçu - Paraná 9-12 Nov 2004.
METROSUL IV counted on the presence of both national and international attendants, representing the industrial and academic areas, bringing technical/scientific novelties for discussion and their application to the fields environment, health, chemistry, automobile industry, food and agroindustry, among others.
The event gathered together 423 participants from 6 countries and 13 Brazilian states. 93 scientific studies were shown, 42 of which were poster displays and 51 discussions. 15 Brazilian companies took part in technical exhibition with their state-of-the-art products and services for the development of metrology.
METROSUL IV was organized by Rede Paranaense de Metrologia e Ensaios - PARANÁ METROLOGIA with the support of: Instituto Nacional de Metrologia, Normalização e Qualidade Industrial - INMETRO; Sociedade Brasileira de Metrologia - SBM; Serviço Brasileiro de Apoio à Pequena Empresa - SEBRAE e Serviço Nacional de Aprendizagem Industrial - SENAI.
The organizers are grateful to the members of the scientific committee for their analysis and approval of the studies presented, as well as to every and each one involved in the organization of the event.
We reckon that the publication of the studies in this issue can be used as reference by the industrial and scientific community and that it contributes to the development of metrology in society as a whole.
