Indexation of the Materia Journal

The visibility of a scientific journal depends in the first place on the quality of the articles that it publishes, but nowadays, especially, on the indexing media it utilizes. This is so because these indexing media are the ones that facilitate the access to the journal by researchers from different places, particularly considering a journal that is published virtually. Introducing the Materia Journal in the SciELO collection was very important to broaden its spectrum of action. Since then there has been an increasing activity of access to its articles and also to the submission of new articles for publication. It is expected that a similar acceptation by the materials area scientific community will take place from this moment on because Materia has just been accepted to be indexed by the Scopus base (http://www.americalatina.elsevier.com/sul/pt-br/scopus.php). This represents an important step to progressively more integrate the Materia journal to the scientific area it is devoted to, publishing an increasing number of first rated and innovative articles. It is worth mentioning, though, that in addition to the indexing mechanisms to which the journal is allied, another key issue to warrant visibility to a scientific journal is the citation of the articles it publishes. If, in one hand, the subscription to the different indexing mechanisms is an activity that depends on the work done by the journal's editors, on the other hand, the citation of articles depends on the authors' approach. Furthermore, I'd like to ask the authors submitting their articles for publication in the Materia journal to include the journal's own collection of published articles, which are of free virtual access, as part of their bibliographic review effort. The objectives for that would be to benefit from the specialized information this collection offers and also to increase the citation index of the journal's articles.

Sincerely yours,

Paulo Emílio V. de Miranda
