Matéria Journal actively participates in the dissemination of the research carried out in Brazil and has associated with scientific conferences throughout the years [11 MONTEIRO, S.N., “A Revista Matéria associa-se ao Congresso Anual da ABM”, Matéria (Rio de Janeiro), v. 11, n. 3, pp. 173-173, 2006.] for the publication of selected papers. The publication in a journal of extended versions of conference papers after peer review, deepening the discussion of the content, gives visibility to the researchers in an increasingly competitive scenario.
This issue of Matéria Journal encompasses papers regularly submitted in the different areas of its scope and papers derived from those presented at the 8th Brazilian Carbon Congress, CARBONO 2019. This conference stands out as the main national event for professionals involved in the research and production of different materials based on carbon. The conference represents a great opportunity to disseminate and share technical and scientific knowledge in this area, encouraging technological innovations. In its eighth edition, the CARBONO conference took place, for the first time, in the state of Minas Gerais, in the historical city of São João del-Rei. The event was organized by professors from the Department of Natural Sciences (DCNat) of the Federal University of São João del-Rei (UFSJ)), together with the Southeast Minas Gerais Federal Institute (IFSMG), the Nuclear Technology Development Center (CDTN-MG) and the Brazilian Carbon Association (ABCarb), with the participation of undergraduate and graduate students.
The papers chosen for this issue of the Matéria Journal reflect the great diversity of applications of this material, for example, in the production of capacitors, adsorbents, catalysts, composites, electronics and biomedical materials. Such materials differ in structure, properties and manufacturing method, and are the subject of intense research in strategic areas, covering subjects of strong relevance for science and technology.
