Brazilian journal of sports medicine: team work in the name of science

The contributions of scientific and clinical research only become possible to be consolidated and applied in the professional practice through their release with the publishing of articles in scientific journals. Strict editorial politics, with the contribution of academically qualified editors and revisors is crucial for the acknowledgment of a scientific journal. Currently, one of the most relevant manners to identify if a scientific journal plays a leading role in the academic field is the Impact Factor (IF), one of the instruments devised by the so-called scienciometry. In 1955, Eugene Garfield gave the final step in this direction and nowadays it is based on the number of citations to articles published in a given science journal over the last two years by other releases, made available by the ISI system (Institute of Scientific Information) and published in the Journal of Citation Reports (JCR - Thomson Reuters).

It was with great honor and pride that we recently received the information that the Revista Brasileira de Medicina do Esporte - RBME (brazilian Journal of Sports Medicine) has Just received its first Impact Factor since it has already reached a higher level compared to some important international journals. This fact is a result of successive management of RBME as well as the volunteer work of the revisors, who "lend" their expertise to improve even more the quality of the articles which will be published. On the other hand, this achievement increases even more the RBME responsibility and rigor in the evaluation and acceptance of the submitted articles.

In the position of current editor-in-chief of RBME, I congratulate and deeply thank all who participate or participated in the Editorial Board and the researchers, authors of the articles, for their relevant service not only to the scientific journal of the brazilian Society of Sports Medicine and Sports Science - SBMEE, but also to the sciences of our country.

Editor-in-chief RBME
