Olafianom. nov. is proposed for Cyclopyge Mielke, 2002 (Lepidoptera: Hesperiidae), preoccupied by Cyclopyge Hawle & Corda, 1847 (Trilobita: Asaphida: Cyclopygidae).

RESUMO

Olafianom. nov. é proposto para substituir Cyclopyge Mielke, 2002 (Lepidoptera: Hesperiidae), pré-ocupado por Cyclopyge Hawle & Corda, 1847 (Trilobita: Asaphida: Cyclopygidae).

Olafia nom. nov.

Cyclopyge Mielke, 2002: 218 [type-species: Cyclopyge roscius (Hopffer, 1874), by Mielke's designation (Mielke, 2002: 218-219)], non Cyclopyge Hawle & Corda, 1847 (type-species: Cyclopyge pachycephala Hawle & Corda, 1847: 63).

Mielke described the genus Cyclopype (Lepidoptera) for one species [C. roscius (Hopffer, 1874)] and three subspecies [C. r. roscius (Hopffer, 1874), C. r. flavomaculata (Bell, 1937), and C. r. iphimedia (Plötz, 1886)] of Neotropical Hesperiidae.

However, this name is preoccupied by Cyclopyge Hawle & Corda, 1847, a genus of Cyclopygidae (Cyclopygoidea, Asaphida, Trilobita) which lived for all the Ordovician (e. g. Romano et al. 1993, Kock 1999, Owens 2002). Therefore, Olafia nom. nov. is here proposed to replace Cyclopyge Mielke, 2002. The nominal genus is in honor to the entomologist Olaf H. H. Mielke. As a result, the following new combinations are introduced: Olafia roscius (Hopffer, 1874) comb. n., Olafia roscius roscius (Hopffer, 1874) comb. n., Olafia roscius flavomaculata (Bell, 1937) comb. n., and Olafia roscius iphimedia (Plötz, 1886) comb. n.
