Editorial note

EDITORIAL NOTE

During the last decade as a result of the evolution of concepts of biodiversity, protection of natural resources and "ecosystem services" the biology of neotropics has adquired an important relevance. Knowledge on mechanisms and processes at ecosystems, organisms, population and communities levels has not only increased but became essential for policies of conservation, management and sustainable development of natural resources. The Brazilian Journal of Biology is therefore as a Journal of the Biology of Neotropics an important and fundamental way of disseminating scientific knowledge of the highest quality. The Editorial and Advisory Boards as the responsible bodies for the editorial policy are aware of this relevance and are establishing permanent standards of quality in order to maintain the publication with the necessary qualified output for an international audience.

The Association of the Brazilian Journal of Biology has now, more than 100 members, thus showing the disposition of the brazilian community of scientists active in Biological Sciences of the neotropics to support the initiative. We thank there leading scientists as well as the financing agencies that enabled the Journal to fade the challenges ahead.
