Editorial note
This edition of the Brazilian Journal of Biology publishes 22 papers, 12 in the area of Ecology and 10 in the area of Biology. These papers represent a range of new information for the Neotropics, especially related to biological and evolutionary processes in the terrestrial and aquatic biota. One of the key recent issues in Neotropical Biology studies is that details and research on processes is now a dominant feature in the submitted papers. This is an important achievement as conservation, protection and recovery of biodiversity is based on processes rather than on description. The Editorial Board of The Brazilian Journal of Biology will increasingly encourage this trend over the coming years.
