EDITORIAL
Dear readers and authors of
Brazilian Journal of Plant Physiology (BJPP)
In May 2006, I was appointed Editor-in-Chief replacing Dr. Paulo Mazzafera. I have accepted this duty as a challenge taking into account that in the last five years BJPP underwent significant improvements in order to meet an international standard and reach readers worldwide. In addition to the improvement in the printing quality, electronic submission has greatly decreased the time between submission and editorial decision to no longer than two months. Also, the free access to the electronic version of BJPP through the Scielo website (www.scielo.br) has facilitated its international circulation.
These achievements will be continued but now with an expanded and refreshed board of Associate Editors, covering all major areas of plant physiology. As for the scope of the journal, no major changes are envisaged at this time but increasing the quality of the articles will be constantly pursued. It is also my intention to continue producing special issues with high-quality papers on selected topics in the field of plant physiology, which could be edited by guest editors. In this regard, suggestions from BJPP readers for hot reviews are always welcome. Maintaining a high standard in the quality of the presented information and in readability, as well as speeding up the procedure towards printing, will all be constant concerns of mine. If we can achieve our objectives, I believe we will be able to provide both authors and readers with even better service in the future and, as a result, further improve the standing of BJPP as a research journal of excellent quality.
