Free papers can be a Jornal Vascular Brasileiro's article

Guilherme Benjamin Brandão Pitta

Presidente, XXXVIII Congresso Brasileiro de Angiologia e Cirurgia Vascular da SBACV - "Congresso para todos"

The 38th Brazilian Congress of Angiology and Vascular Surgery, being held in Maceió, state of Alagoas, northeastern Brazil, on September 21-25, 2009 is bringing together angiologists and vascular surgeons from Brazil and from all over the world to discuss advances and exchange knowledge in our fields. We invite all of you to participate and celebrate the 30 years of the last congress held in Maceió, which attracted 500 members, under the chairmanship of the memorable Dr. Dirceu Falcão, who was the first president from the state of Alagoas of our former SBA (Brazilian Society of Angiology), today's modern SBACV (Brazilian Society of Angiology and Vascular Surgery).

In addition, we would like to reinforce our pride in Jornal Vascular Brasileiro, which has been restructured, updated and is running at full throttle to increase the journal's visibility, by publishing scientific articles that educate, advise and help all members to improve the quality of care provided to patients with vascular diseases. In order to increase the impact factor for this journal, it is important that free papers submitted to our congress, in addition to special free papers, oral papers and posters are accepted for publication.1 Free papers related to the main lectures of the congress play a crucial role since they have a great potential to become special original articles published in our scientific journal. To encourage publications, for authors of original full articles resulting from free papers presented in the congress that successfully pass through a peer-review process in Jornal Vascular Brasileiro, congress registration fees will be waived. The same waiver will apply to the awarded best free papers. Lectures will be published online and in print in the annals of the congress, and related free, special and oral papers will be published in a supplement to our journal, as a special issue for the 38th Brazilian Congress of Angiology and Vascular Surgery. This congress is intended to provide an opportunity for discussion with the lecturers, with at least 30 minutes during panel discussions and 10 minutes during lectures, not to mention our call for active participation of all members in the symposiums, pre-congress courses, free and oral papers, and posters.

The main themes of the congress were chosen after a survey with our members, in an attempt to meet our members' purposes, and renowned national and international experts were invited to address these topics. Visit the congress website (http://www.maceio2009.com.br) for further information and details on the official event of our society. We expect to bring together more than 2,000 members in this congress, which is currently considered one of the world's most important events in our fields.

I am looking forward to seeing all of you in Maceió.
