We are now releasing the second issue of the fifth volume of the IBRACON Structures and Materials Journal (Volume 5, Number 2, April 2012). In this issue seven articles cover relevant topics related to concrete materials and structures. Chloride diffusivity in red mud-ordinary Portland cement concrete is focused in the first article. Another article addresses the application of iron ore mud in powder form in Portland cement presence. The use of construction residues in substitution to the natural aggregates in the production of concrete based materials is discussed in the third article. The next one discusses a design model and recommendations of column-foundation connection through socket with rough interfaces. Based on mathematical modeling, experimental work and specifications adopted by other countries, the fifth article proposes guidelines for the development of concrete performance-based specifications in Brazil. The sixth one presents an evaluation of partial clinker replacement by sugar cane bagasse ash: CO2 emission reductions and potential for carbon credits. The closing article compares results from non-linear three-dimensional finite-element analysis of two-pile caps with experimental observations. These articles present original results and were carefully reviewed by experts from our community. We congratulate authors and reviewers for the high quality of this issue.
