RESUMO

Tratado desde os primórdios da modernidade como um objeto puramente biológico, o corpo humano, a partir do início do século XX, tem sido resgatado pelas Ciências Sociais, assim como pela Filosofia, como dispositivo metodológico para o estudo da pessoa e de seu contexto sócio-histórico-cultural. Os Estudos Organizacionais vêm apresentando adaptações do conhecimento gerado no campo dessas outras áreas ao tomarem o corpo humano como referencial de análise do ambiente organizacional. A partir do resgate dessa construção teórica do corpo, meu objetivo neste ensaio teórico é discutir os modos pelos quais um modelo específico de corpo – o corpo biológico – tem sido paradigma principal para a construção da teoria e da prática organizacional. Demonstro, assim, que um enfoque em uma diferente concepção de corpo humano – corpo social e corpo pessoa (embodiment) – nos possibilita repensar a teoria e a prática administrativa.

ABSTRACT

Treated since the dawn of modernity strictly as a biological object, the human body has been recovered by Social Sciences as well as by Philosophy as a methodological device for the study of the human being and its socio-historical-cultural context. Organizational Studies has adapted some of the knowledge from these fields of study when they take the body as an important reference for the analysis of the organizational environment. It is through the recovery of this theoretical production of the body that this essay discusses how a specific way of presenting the body – the biological body – has been a mainstream paradigm for organizational theory and practice. We demonstrate a different approach to the human body – social body and embodiment – which impels a rethinking of administrative theory and practice.
