"Acta Limnologica Brasiliensia" Journal celebrates its 27th aniversary in 2013. The Journal's first issue was published in 1986 by Francisco de Assis Esteves, its Editor-in-chief at the time, typewritten and printed on paper. Throughout these years, "Acta" has kept its regularity and frequency. Furthermore, our periodical has also adapted to the new reality of scientific publications and the articles of all its issues are available at no cost on the website of our Association. Since 2010 (Volume 22; Issue 2), our articles have also been available with open access at SciELO and DOI (Digital Object Identifier) databases. "Acta" has been indexed at SCOPUS database since 2011 (Volume 23; Issue 1), where some statistical data about the Journal and its articles can be found. The current Issue comprises ten original articles addressing different aspects of Limnology such as distribution of aquatic insects, odonata community, polluted rivers, and fish diet. "Acta" has always been committed to an editorial profile of publishing quality articles (scientifically correct). Thus, simple works with no need to be a scientific breakthrough are welcomed by our journal, a characteristic shared by other open access journals such as PLoS ONE and F1000 research.
