Rbhe celebrates eighteen years with a new format

We present the first edition of the Revista Brasileira de História da Educação (RBHE) of 2018 with news in its editorial project. The debates about the relevance of publishing dynamics that accelerate the scientific dissemination, as well as the accumulation of editorial experience during the eighteen years in which the Revista Brasileira de História da Educação has come to light, have promoted successive improvements in the publication with the affirmation of exclusively digital version, open access, indexed in important national and international databases and part of the articles in bilingual version. Now, the RBHE comes of age with continuous publication of articles, aiming at another good practice of open science communication.

Attentive to the scope of the journal, based on the international trends of scientific dissemination and the requirements for contemporary publishing of excellence, the members of the editorial committee together with the board of the Sociedade Brasileira de História da Educação promote this important transition of the RBHE editorial project. From now on, the publication of articles will be continuous, and no longer organized in specific issues as previously. It should be noted that this change results from the efforts made by the editorial committees that preceded us and is one of the goals of the current board of Sociedade Brasileira de História da Educação (SBHE). The Editorial Committee of RBHE, which took office at the last Meeting of the Sociedade Brasileira de História da Educação during the IX Brazilian Congress of History of Education, held from August 15 to 18, 2017, in the city of João Pessoa, State of Paraíba, in relation to the continuous publication of articles by digital media, that this format amplifies and further dynamizes the issues. That they multiply the contributions of those who write, publish, evaluate and read the journal, contributing to the dissemination and publication of highly qualified research results. We try to broaden horizons and promote spaces of dialogue and visibility for research in the field of History of Education.

It is also worth mentioning that in 2018 we will have materialized the indexation of RBHE in the Scielo platform, a procedure that is also a priority, since it allows us to affirm another step in the qualification of our journal. Also

in this sense, it is important to note that the Editorial Committee of RBHE has an external member that honors us with the presence, Professor Alicia Civera Cerecedo of the University of Mexico. Her contribution as a publisher and experience as an admittedly qualified researcher adds to the efforts of the Editorial Committee to keep a journal in line with the challenges of Latin American historical-educational research.

We consider that the year that we started is emblematic and profoundly relevant to our country and - as Nóvoa (2015Nóvoa, A. (2015). Carta a um jovem historiador da educação. In: Historia y Memoria de la Educación. Sociedad Española de Historia de la Educación, n. 1, p. 23 - 34, p.32) warned, “History is of no use except for thinking. And that is all”- we want to provoke our readers of this edition to think. Let us be able to think, but also to promote deep and slow, free and critical thinking. We believe that the intellectuals cannot be silent, they cannot omit to provoke the thought, the reflection. As Chauí (2006Chauí, M. (2006). Intelectual engajado: uma figura em extinção? In: Novaes, A. (org). O silêncio dos intelectuais. São Paulo: Companhia das Letras, p. 19 - 43., p. 30) wrote, “the silence of the intellectuals here is a sign of a deeper absence: the absence of a thought capable of unraveling and interpreting the contradictions that move the present”. If the questions of the historians of education are mobilized by the present time and its contradictions, carried out by diverse theoretical and methodological orientations, that the results of the researches are relevant, after all “without knowledge, without creation, without culture, without history, there is no future for the university and neither for education” (Nóvoa, 2015, p.33) and this is done with freedom.

May the articles we have published produce resonances in our studies and in our thoughts. Good reading!
