83rd anniversary of REM

During the Brazilian Carnival, there was a group called "I ALONE" ... That's how I felt when I started directing REM in 1987. Recently arrived from my doctorate in France, I believed that information made all the difference for scientific researches and that the research results should be divulged, lest they become lost science

In the beginning, it was difficult to assemble a team, but perseverance greatly helped in the search for a group, meeting what Aristotle preached, "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. That's why I wrote in one of the editorials that I have a TEAM, and it's going to grow, I'm sure.

It is worth remembering that, being the first publication in South America for the mining-metallurgical sector, REM is also one of the pioneers among technical-scientific publications to make use of information technology. It was one of the first to adopt the Open Journal Systems (OJS), launched in Brazil by the IBICT - Brazilian Institute of Scientific and Technological Information, and currently uses ScholarOne by SciELO.

But INNOVATE always seems to be in the DNA of this magazine, and because the Brazilians spend an average of around 200 minutes/day on the internet, REM decided to create a website and application. Today it is no longer printed, but our readers can read it online, in the SciELO library (www.scielo.br), or by the "REM Magazine" application. For the first year on line, the number of articles published almost doubled, and only tends to increase. Hence, this issue 1 of 2019 begins with 20 articles, a number that must necessarily grow, otherwise it will create an accumulation of articles on the waiting list, since the number of submissions has grown a lot.

REM is now the target of most of the Brazilian researchers in the mining sector, and it begins to draw attention abroad. It has a team of high level associate editors, another team of programmers, translators, proofreaders, etc. That is, the block is no longer “I ALONE”. Even so, there are still many goals to be achieved: the impact factor and other existing metrics.

Although REM continues to seek innovation, the future still presents many difficulties in the way of our publication, but let's face it, it is very good to participate, with the team that today composes REM on its 83rd anniversary.
