The editorialists, Christian Burgos and Arnaldo Grizzo, from ADEGA magazine, wrote: Reaching 18 is a milestone, a symbol of adulthood.
We also celebrated the 25th anniversary of SciELO - Scientific Electronic Library Online, a platform that was born under the sign of quality, housing high-level publications.
Dear reader, REM is now 88 years old, and has a vitality, as if there was a fountain of youth, which has made her always seek new challenges.
With the change of the capital of the state of Minas Gerais from Ouro Preto to Belo Horizonte, some schools left, but there was resistance from many former students against transferring the Escola de Minas to Barbacena or the new capital.
Consequently, the Escola de Minas became isolated, which gave rise, among its students, to the idea of creating a technical-scientific magazine, as a way of escaping the isolation in which Ouro Preto had been placed. Two attempts failed: Auri-verde and Nossa Magazines. But, in 1936, REM became a reality, and as its first editor wrote: we hope to transform the current attempt into a lasting achievement.
REM continues its struggle, always seeking to become the first reference in the field of Engineering by maintaining its worldwide circulation.
By joining the Open Access System, creating associated editors, and even more so, having the support of SciELO to publish its articles, REM remains firm in its purposes, always aiming to primarily reach author(s))/readers, because we are sure that knowledge is the best way to develop a country.
Another fountain of youth that REM sought was to make it a publication of the Gorceix Foundation, which spares no effort to ensure that it is maintained.
Many researchers, from various universities (Brazilian and abroad), have joined REM as associate editors and/or evaluators, assuming a responsibility, which is to always maintain it just as its creators dreamed.
In addition, our team also consists of other people (computer technicians, translators, librarian, etc.), who are essential for science to be disseminated.
Therefore, we thank everyone who participates, or who has already participated in this endeavor, and we invite everyone to celebrate this 88th anniversary of REM. Who knows, we just might have the opportunity to also celebrate 100 years old.
