Esse artigo parte da oposição entre sociedades individualistas e relacionais desenvolvida por Joel Robbins para a análise do conflito gerado pela adoção do cristianismo entre os Urapmin da Papua Nova Guiné. No caso dos Wari' amazônicos, a percepção aguda da centralidade da noção de indivíduo no cristianismo a eles apresentado, e do conflito potencial entre esta noção e os valores relacionais de sua sociedade, os levou ao engenhoso descolamento desses indivíduos para o mundo póstumo, situando-os em um céu constituído por hiper-indivíduos, sem qualquer relação entre si.Resumo em Inglês:
This article sets out from the opposition between individualist and relational societies developed by Joel Robbins in his analysis of the conflict generated by the adoption of Christianity among the Urapmin of Papua New Guinea. In the case of the Amazonian Wari', their acute perception of the centrality of the notion of the individual in the version of Christianity presented to them, and the potential conflict between this notion and the relational values of their own society, led them to the ingenious solution of dislocating these individuals to the posthumous world, situating them in a heaven of hyper-individuals without any relationship to each other.Resumo em Português:
O ritual de visita do Reisado, prática religiosa do catolicismo rural, se baseia nas relações de troca material/espiritual entre o grupo de devotos e as pessoas visitadas. Os Santos de devoção abençoam as casas através da visita anual do Reisado. Este artigo sobre a dimensão espetacular do corpo nesse ritual focaliza os processos de montagem da performance analisando as interações entre devotos/santos/donos das casas. O ponto de partida é o estudo do Reisado na comunidade negra rural Mulungu (Município de Boninal - Chapada Diamantina/Bahia) desenvolvido através de pesquisa etnográfica e das conexões entre teatro/ritual, traçadas por Jerzy Grotowski no campo da Antropologia Teatral.Resumo em Inglês:
The visita do Reisado ritual, religious practice of the popular rural catholicism, is based on material/spiritual exchange relations between the group of worshippers and the visited people. The Saints of devotion bless the houses through the annual visita do Reisado ritual. This article on the spectacular body's dimension in this ritual focuses on the performance's construction processes by analyzing the interactions among worshippers/saints/owners of the visited houses. The starting point is the study of the Reisado in the black rural community called Mulungu (City of Boninal - Chapada Diamantina/Bahia) developed through ethnographic research and connections between ritual/theater, traced by Jerzy Grotowski in the Theatre Anthropology field.Resumo em Português:

This text develops a clue that was raised by Max Weber in The protestant ethic and the "spirit" of the capitalism: it deals about the protestant ascesis' influence on Rembrandt's painting. Taking Weber's sociology of religion and some analyses of the Dutch painter and the seventeenth century Holland as guidelines, it is argued that it's possible to see in a certain part of Rembrandt's artistic itinerary the pictorial equivalent of the puritan sensibility described by Weber.Resumo em Português:
Este artigo trata do surgimento e transformação das categorias "iorubá" e "iorubidade" como atributos de importância coletiva para identidades sociais e práticas religiosas nos dois lados do Atlântico. Argumentando contra anacrônicas atribuições de origem feitas por acadêmicos, o artigo detalha como tais origens, identidades e religiões foram ativamente construídas na Nigéria, em Cuba e no Brasil durante o século vinte, através de processos etnogênicos e eclesiogênicos que envolviam interações complexas entre praticantes religiosos, etnógrafos e agentes do Estado, bem como mediações textuais e intertextualidades entre os gêneors etnográfico e hierográfico. O artigo conclui com um breve esboço da mais recente fase desse processo, marcado pela transformação do culto dos orixás em algo que se poderia descrever como um religião universal emergente.Resumo em Inglês:
This paper deals with the emergence and transformation of the categories "Yoruba" and "Yorubaness" as collectively salient predicates of social identities and religious practices on both sides of the Atlantic. Arguing against anachronistic scholarly attributions of origins, I detail how such origins, identities, and religions were actively fashioned in twentieth century Nigeria, Cuba and Brazil in the course of temporally staggered ethnogenetic and ecclesiogenetic processes that involved complex interactions between religious practitioners, ethnographers and state agents, as well as textual mediations and intertextualities between ethnographic and hierographic genres. I conclude by briefly surveying the latest phase in this process, marked as it is by the transformation of "orisha worship" into what arguably is an emergent universal religion.Resumo em Português:
A partir do livro Os mistérios da fé, de autoria da principal liderança da Igreja Universal do Reino de Deus, Edir Macedo, procuro refletir sobre a noção de fé e sobre as características do discurso do autor. Considero que, a partir do texto de Macedo, é possível falar sobre estratégias discursivas reproduzidas no interior da denominação, assim como caracterizar as investidas proselististas que se realizam a partir delas. Ao examinar a tradução que Macedo faz sobre a noção de fé nessa publicação, destaco o emprego das idéias de "fé natural" e "fé sobrenatural", sublinhando continuidades e descontinuidades entre mundo secularizado e universo religioso dentro da proposta do autor.Resumo em Inglês:
Based on the book "The mysteries of the faith", written by the main leader of the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God, Edir Macedo, I reflect about the notion of faith and about the characteristics of the author's discourse. I consider that, by focusing Macedo's text, it's possible to talk about discursive strategies reproduced in the denomination routine and also characterize the proselytists activities that take place from them. By analyzing Macedo's translation of the notion of faith in this publication, I point out the use of the ideas of "natural faith" and "supernatural faith", reinforcing the continuities and discontinuities between secularized world and religious universe in the author's propose.Resumo em Português:
Nos anos 90, com a implementação do "mercado livre" pelo governo Collor, noções como "produtividade" e "resultados" ganham centralidade na vida econômica brasileira. Nessa mesma época, é notório, nas classes trabalhadoras, o aumento do número de fiéis da Igreja Universal do Reino de Deus, defensora da "Teologia da Prosperidade". Entendo que o expressivo crescimento da conversão dos pobres brasileiros ao neopentecostalismo que autoriza o direito dos indivíduos a uma existência terrena de "prosperidade" incentivando seus fiéis ao trabalho empreendedor, justamente na década de 1990, e o fenômeno do elogio ao "sucesso" que despontou no horizonte da "economia de mercado" estão intimamente relacionados. Since the 1990s the concepts of "productivity" and "results" have taken center-stage on Brazil's economic discourse. Throughout this period the number of Igreja Universal do Reino de Deus, defender of the Theology of Prosperity, faithful has skyrocketed among the poor. This church promises a worldly existence of "abundance" and "prosperity" to those paying the "tithe" and demanding from the Lord a "structure to work and to fight for life". Using ethnographic material culled from Neopentecostal faithful, this paper establishes the connection between both processes.Resumo em Português:
A Igreja Católica enfrenta, de forma ambígua, as vicissitudes dos mercados, o religioso e o econômico propriamente dito. Na década de 90, isso se tornou evidente por causa de dois movimentos opostos. De um lado, a Renovação Carismática - resposta católica à concorrência pentecostal no mercado religioso - fomentou o uso de técnicas de marketing e a projeção de padres cantores na grande mídia. De outro, a Teologia da Libertação, corrente politizada de esquerda que desencadeou, entre outras coisas, o engajamento em atividades associativas de produção econômica em um conjunto chamado economia solidária, apontado como resposta à "exclusão do mercado de trabalho" ou ao desemprego. The Catholic Church faces in an ambiguous way the market's setbacks, the religious one and the economic itself. In the 1990s, it became obvious because of two opposites movements. On the one hand, the Charismatic Renewal, catholic reply to the Pentecostal (Pentecostal) competition at the religious market, has stimulated the use of marketing techniques and the projection of singer priests at the big media. On the other hand, the Liberation Theology, progressist tendency that has generated, among other things, the participation of militants in associatives economic enterprises, that belong to a set named solidary economy, which has been spread as a reply to "the labour market exclusion", that is, the unemployment. This article deals with the catholic relationship with those markets at the Brazilian society.Resumo em Português:
O artigo busca comparar a participação religiosa, cívico-política e voluntária-assistencial dos alunos de serviço social da UFRJ. Buscava-se identificar com que religiões os discentes mais se identificavam (entre católicos, espíritas, protestantes e sem religião) e se a identidade e participação religiosas favoreciam a participação nas outras duas instâncias. A pesquisa abrangeu 756 alunos, em 1999 e 2006, de todos os períodos, dos cursos diurno e noturno da Escola de Serviço Social da UFRJ. O artigo conclui que os alunos não abandonam suas crenças religiosas quando expostos a formação política. Além disso, eles demonstram ter espírito cooperativo e estão dispostos a atuarem voluntariamente nas instituições a que estão filiados.Resumo em Inglês:
The article seeks to compare the religious, civic-political and voluntary-assistential forms of participation of UFRJ social workers students. It aims to identify the religions to which the faculty mostly identifies itself (between Catholics, Spiritists, Protestants and religiousless) and whether the religious identity and participation favor the participation in the other two instances. The research has contemplated 756 students of UFRJ Social Work School, all grades and course turns comprised, in 1999 and 2006. The article concludes that the students do not abandon their religious beliefs when they are exposed to a political background. Moreover, they seem to have a cooperative spirit and are willing to work voluntarily in the institutions to which they are affiliated.
