Resumo As cosmologias implicadas na prática da feitiçaria são humano-centradas. Dentro delas, seres humanos estão no coração de processos que são integrais na formação dos seus universos físicos, sociais e políticos. A feitiçaria fetichiza, frequentemente acentuando-a magicamente, a agência humana como o fator mediador chave afetando o curso ou direção das ocorrências de vida humanas. O caráter fabuloso de boa parte da prática feiticeira, suas dimensões transgressivas e ilimitadas, o rico simbolismo que parece pressionar e ultrapassar os limites da imaginação humana, está evidentemente conectado ao ímpeto avassalador e totalizante que a feitiçaria reconhece na agência e capacidade humanas. A feitiçaria é aquela força mágica adicional que se alia à direção intencional dos seres humanos nas suas realidades – uma direcionalidade criativa e destrutiva. Abstract The cosmologies implicated in sorcery practice are human-centric. Within them, human beings are at the heart of processes that are integral in the formation of their psychical, social and political universes. Sorcery fetishises human agency, often one which it magically enhances, as the key mediating factor affecting the course or direction of human life-chances. The fabulous character of so much sorcery practice, its transgressive and unbounded dimensions, a rich symbolism that appears to press towards and beyond the limits of the human imagination, is surely connected to the overpowering and totalising impetus that sorcery recognises in human agency and capacities. Sorcery is that magical additional force that unites with the intentional direction of human beings into their realities – a creative and destructive directionality. Such sorcery must needs affect the lives of others because of their co-presence, their ongoing involvement in each other’s life circumstances.Resumo em Português:
Resumo Este artigo analisa as percepções e atitudes de lideranças carismáticas e pentecostais com o objetivo de esclarecer o interesse crescente desses grupos pela esfera política. Os dados indicam a criação de espaços de formação de lideranças para a política partidária em diferentes agremiações pentecostais, bem como no movimento carismático, e demonstram a tendência dos legisladores desses segmentos de apresentar, em conjunto, projetos de lei que contrariam as demandas atuais dos movimentos feministas e homossexuais no campo dos direitos sexuais e reprodutivos.Resumo em Inglês:
Abstract This article analyzes the perceptions and attitudes of Charismatic and Pentecostal leaders to explain the increasing interest of these groups towards the political sphere. The data indicate the creation of spaces for training political party leaders in both movements, as well as the tendency to submit draft laws together, in conflict with present homosexual and feminist demands in the field of sexual and reproductive rights.Resumo em Espanhol:

Este fenómeno se explica a partir de la labor asistencial desplegada por estos actores en el plano territorial y su reconocimiento por parte de dirigentes políticos. Abstract This article analyzes the inclusion of evangelical groups in the area of public administration in Argentina. This phenomenon is explained by the welfare work done by these actors at the territorial level and its recognition by political leaders. These intersections favor the production of religious militancy and development of pastors as territorial mediators and representatives of the State in the daily order of the most vulnerable sectors.Resumo em Espanhol:
Resumen Este artículo aborda los modos de organización de movimiento Islámico transnacional Jama’at at-Tabligh ad-Da’wa en el área de Barcelona –España- desde los años setenta. Su labor proselitista se extiende en la actualidad a diversas zonas de la ciudad y hacia el resto de la Península Ibérica. Ello contribuye a un aumento de la influencia de este movimiento entre musulmanes de diverso origen. La Jama’at at-Tabligh promueve una experiencia piadosa del Islam que hace de su práctica en tal contexto un hecho familiar más que excepcional. Así, este movimiento pone en suspenso visiones hegemónicas sobre el Islam como religión foránea ajena a la democratización del espacio público. Sin embargo, las ciencias sociales no han sido capaces de explicar el alcance del Tabligh, que aparece infrarrepresentado en los discursos públicos. Aquí sugiero en para comprender el rol que juega entre musulmanes que viven en este contexto es necesario reconsiderar nociones de tiempo (histórico y cotidiano) y espacio (histórico y urbano) en relación a la experiencia del Islam en España. Concluyo estas páginas proponiendo el cuerpo como un puente entre la religión y la ciudad y como el necesario foco de atención en futuras etnografías, tanto para el análisis de la Jama’at at-Tabligh como para el debate sobre la presencia del Islam en la España contemporánea.Resumo em Inglês:
Abstract This article focuses on the implementation of the Islamic transnational movement Tablighi Jama’at in the area of Barcelona, Spain, since the 1970s. Its proselytizing mission extends today to different areas of the city and the rest of the Iberian Peninsula, contributing to the increasing influence of the movement among Muslims of diverse origin. The Tablighi Jama’at promotes a pious experience of Islam that makes its practice in the city familiar with such environment rather than exceptional. Thus, I argue that this movement challenges hegemonic views of Islam as a foreign religion and as alien to the democratization of the public sphere. However, scholars have not been able to explain the scope of the Tablighi Jama’at. It remains underrepresented and misunderstood in public discourses. I suggest that in order to comprehend its scope and the role it plays among Muslims living in this context it is necessary to reconsider notions of time (both historical and quotidian) and space (both historical and urban) in relation to the experience of Islam in Spain. I conclude proposing the body as a bridge between religion and the city and as the potential focus for future ethnographic research and the venue for the comprehension of the Tablighi Jama’at and the debate on the presence of Islam in contemporary Spain.Resumo em Português:
Resumo Este artigo faz um relato histórico da acomodação política das procissões católicas nos Países Baixos e da legislação relacionada ao tema. Tem por base a Interdição de Procissões (processieverbod), uma lei que teve como alvo os católicos holandeses e durou de 1848 até 1983. Enquanto que no século XIX uma lei foi adotada para banir, limitar e controlar a infraestrutura sacral da religiosidade pública católica, o século XX pode ser caracterizado pela transição de uma hegemonia protestante para um modelo pluralista de governança das religiões. Finalmente, nos anos 1980, a Lei de Manifestações Públicas terminou com a Interdição de Procissões do século XIX. Isso continua a afetar a acomodação e a manifestação da diversidade religiosa nos Países Baixos nos dias de hoje.Resumo em Inglês:
Abstract This article gives a historical account of the political accommodation of, and legislation around, Catholic processions in the Netherlands. It is organized around the Procession Prohibition (processieverbod), a law that targeted Dutch Catholics and lasted from 1848 till 1983. While in the 19th century a law was adopted to ban, limit and control the sacral infrastructure of Catholic public religiosity, the 20th century can be characterized as shifting from a Protestant hegemony to a pluralist model of governance of religions. Finally, in the 1980s, the Public Manifestations Act ended the notorious 19th century Procession Prohibition. This has continued to affect the accommodation and manifestations of religious diversity in the Netherlands today.Resumo em Português:
Resumo Neste artigo analisamos as formas da presença de moralidades católicas em duas audiências públicas realizadas no Supremo Tribunal Federal. A primeira refere-se ao julgamento da ação sobre a permissão do uso de células tronco embrionárias em pesquisas científicas; e a segunda, ao julgamento da ação que possibilitou a interrupção da gestação de fetos anencéfalos. Nas duas ações agentes vinculados à CNBB participaram do processo. Observamos as estratégias e dispositivos acionados por esses agentes, vinculados ao chamado bloco “pró-vida”, na constituição de seu argumento geral “em defesa da vida” nas duas audiências. Para compreender a disputa pelo convencimento nessas arenas, observaremos a controvérsia mais ampla, identificando os repertórios de justificação produzidos pelos agentes e blocos favoráveis às ações, especialmente referentes à categoriavida.Resumo em Inglês:
Abstract This article analyses the presence of Catholic morals in two public hearings in Brazil’s Supreme Court. The first one was the ADI 3510, which judged the liberation of the use of embryonic stem cells in research. The second action judged the liberation of interruption of pregnancy of anencephalic ferns. The presence of agents of the CNBB was observed in the two process, producing justifications to the “defense of life”, trying to give the human status to the embryo/fetus. To understand the controversy in these arenas, our analysis will also extend to the observation of the wider controversy, identifying the repertories of justification produced by two blocks (favourable and against) in the actions, especially regarding life category in these disputes.Resumo em Português:
Resumo Este artigo analisa conflitos envolvendo lideranças laicas e religiosas na esfera pública brasileira entre os anos de 2010 e 2013. O pastor Silas Malafaia protagoniza os confrontos aqui recapitulados, primeiro contra a deputada Iara Bernardi, na ocasião de um debate sobre o PLC 122/2006, passando por sua tão repercutida entrevista no programa de Marília Gabriela e culminando no embate travado contra o deputado Jean Wyllys por ocasião do PDC que ficou conhecido como da “cura gay”. Partindo de um diálogo entre a teoria social contemporânea e a filosofia política, avaliamos os dilemas apresentados a partir dos pontos de vista últimos em disputa, iluminando os sentidos que definem as respectivas concepções do que seja a vida numa sociedade laica e democrática.Resumo em Inglês:
Abstract This paper examines disputes involving lay and religious leaders in the Brazilian public sphere between the years 2010 and 2013. Pastor Silas Malafaia protagonizes the clashes here recapitulated, first against Congresswoman Iara Bernardi, on the occasion of a debate on the PLC 122/2006, going through his echoed interview in Marilia Gabriela talk show and culminating in the clash against Congressman Jean Wyllys concerning the PDC which became known as the “gay cure”. Drawing on a dialogue between contemporary social theory and political philosophy, we evaluated the dilemmas presented from the ultimate viewpoints in dispute, illuminating the ways that define their views of what life in a secular and democratic society is.Resumo em Português:
Resumo O artigo discute processos de espacialização de missões religiosas de origem protestante ecumênica que atuam junto aos índios, entendendo-os como parte dos mecanismos contemporâneos de formação do Estado e de gestão de territórios e populações. Busca complexificar as interpretações sobre a relação das missões com mecanismos coloniais e pós-coloniais de dominação, explorando a pluralidade de motivações, de formação de alianças e de sentidos veiculados por elas em diferentes espaços geográficos e períodos de tempo. Para isso, examina quatro casos, na Coreia do Sul, Noruega, Argentina e Brasil, analisando os nexos das missões com redes locais e transnacionais de apoio, notadamente no campo do desenvolvimento, dialogando com as discussões metodológicas na antropologia sobre as etnografias multissituadas.Resumo em Inglês:
Abstract The article deals with some spacialization processes of the religious protestant missions with an ecumenical profile directed to indigenous peoples, taking them as part of the contemporary mechanisms of state building, which includes the administration of territories and populations. It intends to produce a more complex view of some interpretations about the relations between missions and colonial and post-colonial situations, exploring the plurality of their motivations, the diversity of alliances they establish, in different periods of time and geographical settings, as well as the variety of meanings they can transmit. To do so, it exams four cases, in South Korea, Norway, Argentina and Brazil, analysing the connections between missions with local and transnational webs of support, mainly in the field of development cooperation, using a multisited ethnografical approach.Resumo em Português:
Resumo O artigo propõe uma análise das relações firmadas pela Catholic Agency for Overseas Development (CAFOD) com o movimento dos meninos de rua no Brasil na década de 1990 e com doadores católicos nas dioceses anglo-galesas. Pretende-se demonstrar que a particularidade da cooperação internacional católica não se encontra, como sugerem Morse e McNamara (2008), na existência de uma delimitada comunidade moral, mas nos tipos de saberes, técnicas e linguagens mobilizados a cada relação: técnico-burocráticos com doadores institucionais e católicos com doadores em paróquias. Tais relações permitem que se faça diferentes tipos de política: desde os movimentos sociais no Brasil em suas lutas específicas até os ativistas católicos britânicos, que tomam a justiça social como expressão de sua fé.Resumo em Inglês:
Abstract The paper presents an analysis of the relations established between the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development (CAFOD), Catholic donors in the dioceses of England and Wales, and the street children movement in Brazil in the 1990s. The aim is to show that the particularity of the Catholic development chain is not expressed in the supposed existence of a bounded moral community, as suggested by Morse and McNamara (2008), but in the kinds of knowledge, techniques and language mobilized at every relation: bureaucratic knowledge with institutional donors and the Catholic doctrine among donors. Relations within the Catholic Development chain enable the practice of specific and unrelated politics, those of social movements in Brazil and of Catholic activists in the UK.Resumo em Espanhol:
Resumen En la Argentina el importante rol que el cristianismo liberacionista ha jugado en la conformación y planteamiento y conceptualización de una izquierda movimentaria no tradicionalmente política ha sido frecuentemente pasado por alto. En este artículo argumentamos sobre la presencia de una matriz político-ideológica cristiana, esto es, una tradición particular de objetivación de lo social y lo político, operando en el origen mismo de esta izquierda social. Analizamos posteriormente algunas de las características comunes a muchos de los nuevos movimientos sociales latinoamericanos y establecemos un paralelo con las formas de categorizar lo social típicas de los movimientos cristianos. Finalmente realizamos un relevamiento de esas categorías en una editorial de la revista Alternativa Latinoamericana, empleada aquí en tanto documento del discurso cristiano-ecuménico en la Argentina de los ’80.Resumo em Inglês:
Abstract The important role that liberationist Christianity has played in Argentina in shaping and conceptualizing not traditionally political and social movements centered left has often been overlooked. In this article we argue about the presence of a political-ideological Christian matrix, ie, a particular tradition of objectifying the social and the political, operating at the origin of this social left. Subsequently some common features from the new Latin American social movements are analyzed and a parallel is established between their ways of categorizing social and those typical of the Christian movements. Finally, a survey of these categories is made in an editorial note of the Alternativa Latinoamericana review, used here as a document of the Christian ecumenical discourse in Argentina 80s.Resumo em Espanhol:
Resumen La relación establecida entre el mundo evangélico y la dictadura militar chilena es uno de los episodios más significativos de la historia política y religiosa reciente en Chile. Si bien este fenómeno ha sido investigado tanto por las ciencias sociales como por la teología, sus posturas han tendido a desarrollarse de manera desvinculada, ofreciendo una imagen parcelada de la problemática. El presente artículo intenta ser un aporte en este ámbito específico, para lo cual se ha fijado un objetivo concreto: analizar los elementos ideológicos y políticos distintivos de las declaraciones públicas realizadas por el mundo evangélico ante el gobierno militar, vinculándolas con los contextos ideológicos en los cuales se emitieron estas declaraciones. Para ello, metodológicamente se han analizado dos declaraciones fundamentales realizadas por los líderes y pastores evangélicos ante el régimen militar chileno (fuentes primarias), lo cual permitirá complejizar la imagen que se posee sobre la relación entre el mundo evangélico y la dictadura militar chilena.Resumo em Inglês:
Abstract The established relationship between the evangelical world and the Chilean military dictatorship is one of the most significant episodes of recent political and religious history in Chile. Although this phenomenon has been investigated as much by social sciences as by theology, its postures (positions) have tended to develop in a disjointed manner, offering a divided (splintered) image of the problem. The present article tries to make a contribution in this specific environment for which a concrete objective has been fixed: to analyze the distinctive ideological and political elements of the public declarations realized by the evangelical world up against the military government, joining them with the ideological contexts in which these declarations were emitted. For that, methodologically two fundamental declarations realized by evangelical leaders and pastors against the Chilean military regime (primary sources) have been analyzed, which will allow the image which is held about the relationship between the evangelical world and the Chilean military dictatorship to be made more complex.Resumo em Português:
Resumo Neste artigo tomamos os conceitos de religião e espaço público como domínios relacionais. A partir dessa abordagem, seguimos as propostas de van de Port no que se refere à circularidade do candomblé de orixá no espaço público baiano, buscando articular as ideias do autor ao reconhecimento de que a circularidade produz uma cartografia atravessada por mediadores heterogêneos, ou seja, de que o candomblé propicia agenciamentos variados, incluindo-se, entre esses, os bens simbólicos de ampla circulação no espaço público. Com base nesses argumentos, procuramos compreender as relações entre candomblé de egun e candomblé de orixá na Ilha de Itaparica, apresentando elementos etnográficos que sugerem uma problematização do argumento de van de Port, indicando que a circulação do candomblé nessa localidade não se processa como em Salvador, mas apresenta assimetrias importantes nos modos de legitimação e visibilização social dessa religião em Itaparica.Resumo em Inglês:
Abstract In this paper, we take the concepts of religion and public space as relational domains. Based on this point of view, we follow van de Port’s proposition about the circularity of Orisha’s Candomblé in Bahia’s public space, seeking to articulate the author’s ideas to the recognition that the circularity produces a cartography of heterogeneous mediators, namely, that Candomblé provides varied agencyings, including, among them, the symbolic goods of wide circulation in the public space. Based on these arguments, we try to understand the relationships between Eguns’ Candomblé and Orisha’s Candomblé in the Island of Itaparica, by bringing out to discussion ethnographic elements that suggest problematizing van de Port’s argument, indicating that the circulation of Candomblé in this locality does not processes such as in Salvador, but presents important asymmetries in the ways of social legitimization and visibility of that religion in Itaparica.Resumo em Português:
Resumo Este artigo aborda os aspectos materiais de cultos e campanhas ligados à atividade missionária da Igreja Protestante na Holanda. Ao focar as ações desenvolvidas no país de origem, ao invés dos encontros nos campos missionários, o texto pretende investigar como as obrigações diaconais e missionárias cristãs abstratas se tornam produções rituais tangíveis e concretas, através da mobilização de um conjunto de elementos litúrgicos. O texto toma este processo como parte das negociações de alteridade em jogo no empreendimento missionário protestante. A descrição e a análise de alguns rituais observados durante a pesquisa etnográfica na Holanda permitem mostrar como a mobilização desses diversos elementos materializa e torna acessível aos sujeitos protestantes aspectos relativamente abstratos de suas obrigações missionárias.Resumo em Inglês:
Abstract This article addresses material aspects of religious services and campaigns connected to the missionary activities of the Protestant Church in the Netherlands. The text focuses on action developed in the sending country instead of encounters in the missionary field. In doing so, the article aims at investigating how abstract Christian missionary and diaconal obligations become concrete and tangible ritual productions, through the mobilisation of a set of liturgical elements. The text takes these practices as part of the process of negotiating otherness at issue in the Protestant missionary endeavor. The analysis of a few rituals observed during the ethnographic research in the Netherlands intends to show how the mobilisation of these varied elements materialise some abstract aspects of missionary obligations, rendering them accessible to the Protestant subjects.Resumo em Espanhol:
Resumen En América Latina, desde hace algunos años, una serie de actores religiosos vienen articulando estrategias para oponerse a los derechos sexuales y reproductivos. Si bien la jerarquía de la Iglesia Católica y algunas iglesias evangélicas continúan siendo centrales en la oposición a estos derechos, en las últimas décadas distintos sectores de la sociedad civil han comenzado también a activarse políticamente en pos de resistir el avance de la agenda de los derechos sexuales y reproductivos. Desde aquí, diversas ONG “pro-vida” vienen adquiriendo cada vez mayor relevancia en el contexto argentino. El presente artículo busca describir e identificar la emergencia y el desarrollo de estas ONG en Argentina, así como las transformaciones en sus identidades públicas y sus acciones. Se destaca cómo han mutado sus identidades religiosa, desplazando estos elementos a un segundo plano. Así, se da cuenta de las complejidades que adquieren las fronteras entre lo religioso y secular en su accionar político.Resumo em Inglês:
Abstract Although the hierarchy of the Catholic Church and some evangelical churches continue to be the central opposition to sexual and reproductive rights (SRR), in recent decades, various sectors from the civil society have also begun to get politically active with the purpose of resisting the advance of the SRR agenda. Several “pro-life” NGOs are becoming increasingly important in Argentina. This article aims to describe the emergence and development of these NGOs in the country, the changes in their public identities and actions, as well as the ways in which these NGOs relate religion with politics. At the beginning, most of these organizations maintained a strong catholic identity; however, in the last two decades, a series of evangelical organizations have begun to emerge. In addition, many other NGOs are downplaying their religious identity, displacing it to a secondary position. This phenomenon evidences the complex nature of the limits between religion and secularity in the political activities of these organizations, in the context of the current debates around sexual policies.Resumo em Português:
Resumo Este artigo tem como objetivo analisar a religiosidade islâmica no contexto minoritário brasileiro, a partir da observação da prática do hijab no país. A princípio, será realizada uma breve apresentação histórica sobre a presença muçulmana no Brasil, abrangendo desde o tráfico negreiro e a imigração árabe até a conversão de brasileiros ao Islã. A seguir, são apresentados relatos de muçulmanas que nos permitem compreender como elas se sentem percebidas pelos brasileiros não muçulmanos ao trajarem o véu. Por fim, serão examinadas as práticas do hijab por parte de muçulmanas em diversas regiões do país, como São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Florianópolis e Brasília, com o intuito de entender como muçulmanas negociam e adaptam suas crenças e práticas religiosas no contexto nacional.Resumo em Inglês:
Abstract This article intends to analyze the Islamic religiosity in the Brazilian minority context, through the study of the practice of the hijab in the country. The article opens with a brief historical presentation of the Muslim presence in Brazil, covering the traffic of Muslim slaves, Arab immigration and conversion to Islam. Then, Muslim women reports are presented to allow us to better comprehend how they feel they are perceived by non-Muslim Brazilians when wearing the veil. Finally, practices of the hijab by Muslims resident in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Florianópolis and Brasília are analyzed in order to understand how Muslims negotiate and adapt their beliefs and practices in the national context.Resumo em Português:
Resumo Neste artigo problematizamos diferentes sentidos (culturais e religiosos) atribuídos ao Cais do Valongo, considerado o principal porto de entrada dos africanos escravizados no Brasil, desde que foi redescoberto nas escavações e entrou na pauta do projeto de revitalização da Zona Portuária da cidade do Rio de Janeiro. De uma “africanidade” cultural com nexos religiosos específicos, em um primeiro momento, transformou-se em símbolo da “diáspora africana”, sem que se desse destaque às referências religiosas e, depois, em uma obra realizada pelo Porto Maravilha, recuperada no processo de revitalização em curso, e lugar de promoção turística. Por último, discutimos como hoje segmentos do movimento negro e lideranças religiosas buscam manter o caráter religioso e sacralizado do Cais, promovendo ali a “Lavagem do Cais do Valongo”.Resumo em Inglês:
Abstract In this article we question different ways (cultural and religious) assigned to the Valongo Wharf, considered the main port of entry of enslaved Africans in Brazil, since it was rediscovered in the excavations and entered the revitalization project of the agenda of the area of the city of Rio de Janeiro. An “Africanism” cultural with specific religious connections, at first, became a symbol of the “African diaspora” without that this emphasis on religious references and then into a work performed by Wonder Porto, recovered in the process ongoing revitalization, and place of tourism promotion. Finally, we discussed how today segments of the black movement and religious leaders seek to maintain the religious character and sacralized Pier, there promoting “Wash Valongo Wharf”.
