Santos, Douglas Alessandro Souza; Martinez, Elias David Morales

Abstract: In a contrary way to the classic thesis of secularization, religiosity did not falter. In fact, all that we have observed in contemporaneity could be defined as a case of religious reconfiguration of its own characteristics. Among the most diverse and significant changes in the Brazilian religious scene of the last few years, the deinstitutionalization, including the evangelical one, stands out. The unchurched evangelicals, a term used to describe those in this process, are embedded in a growing variable. This paper seeks to ponder about these new religious subjects, as well as to study the relationship between their growth linked to the own aspects of modernity radicalized in it reverberated. To do so, the research takes the Caminho da Graça community, led by Caio Fábio D’Araújo Filho, as the main field case.

Abstract: In this article, we will study the political position of Frei Betto by the centrality of the base, analyzing his passage in the Lula government in the years 2003 and 2004 and some of his pronouncements in activities and events in which he participated in Cuba in the context of the discussion on the future of socialism from the point of view of a socialism understood as popular and based on broader paradigms than that of the production of economic goods. In his historical-spatial movement, we identified some of the characteristics of his popular-emancipatory vision that has an analytical foundation at the same time secular and political-theological.

    Chaves, Wagner Neves Diniz

Abstract: The article explores the symbolic correspondences of a character of Guimarães Rosa with the universe of “violeiros” in the São Francisco valley. The text draws attention to the relativity and ambivalence of our categories of thought, exploring the country culture as Rosa constructs in the biography of ex-jagunço Riobaldo and other characters. The article suggests that the backwoods universe embodied in characters from the Rosean novel “is an open field of possibilities”, serving as inspiration for us to glimpse many connections with the ethnographic context The dilemma of the existence or not of the devil, which occupies Riobaldo’s concerns, is comparatively confronted with the symbolic ambivalence about a musical instrument, the viola, associated by the guitarists with both Jesus and the Magi as well as evil and demon himself.

Abstract: Popular religiosity in Latin America, related to the emancipation of the “God’s people”, contributed fundamentally to the struggles and social movements in the subcontinent, through Christianity and Liberation Theology, in the 1950s and 1960s. However, in the last thirty years, the faith of the “Latin American people” has been mobilized as a way to consolidate the hegemony of a bourgeois faction that is advancing in the conservative world political scenario, as we can see in the Brazilian case. The recognition by the Social Sciences of the power relations that structure religious discourses and knowledge spaces, in our hypothesis, can open horizons of understanding and rebellion that propitiate subversions and the construction of decolonizing and emancipatory theological-political discourses and practices, led by subordinate groups
  • A Igreja Universal do Reino de Deus na “Reconstrução Nacional” de Angola Artigos Do Fluxo Contínuo

    Sampaio, Camila A. M.

Abstract: In Angola, religions must be legitimized by the State to operate and maintain temples. Legal recognition does not guarantee a permanent condition for its exercise, which is conditioned to the disputes between different powers and actors. The aim of this study is to debate how the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God and its believers are aligned with post-war national reconstruction proposals, as from the analysis of the prohibition of Islam and episodes that temporarily suspended Universal. The study data come from fieldwork (2010-2011); monitoring the Church’s digital media and the official Angolan news agency (2008-2014); updating news about Universal in Angola and the debate about the legislation that regulates religions in the country (2018-2019).

Abstract: This article presents a reflection on the relationship between man and divinity in the Christian Pentecostal cosmology. Settled on my ethnographic experience of almost two years with the Pentecostals of an Assembly of God, I, first of all, present the description believers give about the human myth of origin in Genesis, in order to show the relation of this explanation with the Pentecostal doctrine of “little gods”. The article ends by making a dialogue with the renewed discussion that contemporary anthropology has made about the concepts of animism and perspectivism.

Abstract: In this paper we analyze the narratives of identity transformation of people in treatment for drug abuse and people that finished a treatment. The empirical data comes from qualitative research and is composed of semi-structured interviews to residents and former residents of three religious therapeutic communities (one of them evangelical and two catholics) in the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires (Argentina). We present a chronology that reflects the way in which is configured the religious conversion, the main biographical transformation that these institutions seek, associated to norms obedience. Conversion is signified as a process through which the resident incorporates tools to learn how to “manage his/her life in the outside world” and how to “live clean”
  • Edições Shalom: autoria e circulação transnacional do catolicismo carismático Artigos Do Fluxo Contínuo

Abstract: The proposal of this article is the analysis of a specific set of books produced as training material by the Shalom Catholic Community, both for its members and for the external public. In order to do so, it will take as corpus of analysis the set of books written by the co-founder of the said Community, Emmir Nogueira. Articulating Catholic theological thought, the moral thinking of the Charismatic Renewal and the orientations of conduct, we present the hypothesis that the conjunction of these systems of orientation conveyed in the texts is based on a transnational project of Christianization of civility, according to the sociologist Norbert Elias. Founded in Fortaleza, the Community, through its publications (especially those of its co-founder), consolidates a catechizing enterprise through ideas that circulate in several countries where it operates, on five continents.

Abstract: This essay intends to reflect on some aspects involved in the learning process in Umbanda and Anthropology, taking as a focus of attention the experiences lived by the author during his fieldwork in a terreiro. Throughout this immersion, thought in terms of an education of attention, some events have served to demonstrate the complete impossibility of establishing any kind of dissociation between certain central categories in the conformation of a “Western epistemology” as well as of anthropological practice itself. From this, it was found that knowing and feeling, participating and observing, being and knowing, action and perception, theory and practice, affection and cognition are not only intrinsically related but are constitutive parts of human apprenticeship.
