  • Mirídeos neotropicais: CCLI: descrições de três espécies novas de Minasmiris carvalho (Hemiptera)

    Carvalho, José C. M.

    Resumo em Inglês:

Three new species of Minasmiris Carvalho (Hemiptera, Miridae), from South America, are described: M. peruanus, sp. n., from Peru; M. maldonadoi, sp. n., from Colombia; and M. argentinus, sp. n., from Argentina. Illustrations of the habitus, male genitalia and dorsal view of head are included.
  • Mirídios neotropicais: CCLV: descrições de cinco espécies novas e revalidação de Monalonion decoratum Monte (Hemiptera)

    Carvalho, José C. M.

    Resumo em Inglês:

Five new species of Miridae (Hemiptera) are described: Englemania peruana, from Tingo Maria; Peru; Pycnoderes venezuelanus, from Biscucuy, Venezuela; Euchilochoris bolivarianus, from Chapare, Bolivia, Guacatal in Venezuela and Santa Inez in Ecuador; Neoneella minuscula, from Águas Vermelhas, Minas Gerais, Brazil; and Neofurius quichuanus, from Tingo Maria, Peru. Monalonion decoratum Monte, 1942, is revalidated. Illustration of the habitus and male genitalia of these taxa are included.
  • A temperatura e o desenvolvimento larval de Chironomus sancticaroli (Diptera: Chironomidae)

    Strixino, Giovanni; Strixino, Susana Trivinho

    Resumo em Inglês:

Development rate, survival and growth of a neotropical midge, Chironomus sancticaroli, were determined in laboratory at different temperatures. The "lower thermal limit" is 12ºC and the "thermal constant", characteristic for the species, varies from 140-144 day-degree. These results pointed out to a high development when compared with species of temperate areas and permit to expect, for C. sancticaroli, 16-18 generations/year, in natural conditions.
  • Aspectos da ultra-estrutura dos cecos gástricos da larva de Odontosciara sp. (Diptera: Sciaridae)

Cruz Landim, Carminda da; Moraes, Regina Lúcia Morelli Silva de

    Resumo em Inglês:

Ultrastructural features of the gastric caeca of Odontosciara sp. are reported. The species has 4 lateral caeca connected with the anterior midgut at the level of the foregut junction. The epithelial cell features indicate protein synthesis, digested material absorption from the lumen and haemolymph material absorption. Those functions, however, do not seem to be very intense.
  • A new arietellid copepod (Crustacea): Pilarella longicornis, gen. n., sp. n., from the brazilian continental shelf

    Alvarez, Maria Paloma Jimenez

    Resumo em Inglês:

Pilarella longicornis gen. n., sp. n. (Copepoda-Arietellidae) collected over the bottom of the Brazilian continental shelf is described and its taxonomic position is discussed.
  • Revision of the genus Neoscolecithrix (Copepoda, Calanoida) and description of N. caetanoi, sp. n., collected off Brazil

    Alvarez, Maria Paloma Jimenez

    Resumo em Inglês:

The genus Neoscolecithrix is redefined and its situation in the family is discussed. The division of the species of this genus into two groups, "kehleri" and "farrani", is proposed, based on marked differences in the type of the rostrum, in the mandible's gnathobase, in the maxilla 2 and in the legs, especially the fifth leg. Xanthocalanus watersae Grice (1972) is considered a species of Neoscolecithrix. The female and the male of N. caetanoi sp. n., collected off the Brazilian coast at 900 m depth, are described.
  • Redescricão de Hyalella pernix (Moreira) (Amphipoda - Hyalellidae) com discussão de seu sinônimo H. curvispina Shoemaker

    Pereira, Vania Filippi Goulart C.

    Resumo em Inglês:

Hyalella is widely distributed in the Americas. Until the present moment around 30 species have been identified. Hyalella curvispina Shoemaker is treated as synonynous with Hyalella pernix (Moreira) due to the very strong similarities found in both species: they have in common an outstanding curved spine on the inner ramus of uropod 1 of the male. This is considered the main characteristic of H. curvispina. With the species already known and the synonymy treated here a total of 29 species of Hyalella is reached. It would seem that H. pernix is the most widespread species in Brazil and in South America as a whole.
  • Anelídeos poliquetos associados ao briozoário Schizoporella unicornis (Johnston): V. Syllidae

    Morgado, Eloisa H.; Amaral, A. Cecília Z.

    Resumo em Inglês:

Seven species of Syllidae (Annelida, Polychaeta) inhabiting colonies of the bryozoan Schizoporella unicornis (Johnston), a common species on the beaches of Ubatuba and São Sebastião, São Paulo State, Brazil are described: Exogone occidentalis Westheide, 1974; Haplosyllis spongicola (Grube, 1855); Opistosyllis corallicola Hartmann-Schröder, 1965; Syllis gracilis (Grube, 1840); Trypanosyllis taeniaformis (Haswell, 1866); Typosyllis maculata Imajima, 1966 and Typosyllis variegata (Grube, 1860). Among these, E. occidentalis, O. corallicola, T. taeniaformis and T. maculata are cited for the first time for the Brazilian coast. The most abundant of these species was S. gracilis.
  • Estudo histológico e histoquímico do aparelho excretor de Glossoscolex paulistus Michaelsen, 1926 (Oligochaeta, Glossoscolecidae)

    Buck, Nelson

    Resumo em Inglês:

The present study reveals that the excretory system of Glossoscolex paulistus is formed by open holonephridia (exonephridia). It is noticed that different zones are recognized in the nephridial canal, with defined histological and histochemical characteristics: 1) primary canal; 2) lobed canal; 3) first rounded segment; 4) afferent thin segment; 5) efferent thin segment; 6) second rounded segment; 7) ciliary tube; 8) clear canal; 9) pigmented canal; 10) intermediate canal; 11) bladder; 12) terminal canal; 13) nephridiopore. All these regions are intercellular and cilia are found in regions 1, 2, 3, 6, 7 and 13. The connections between afferent and efferent capillary of the vascular supply of the nephridium are made of capillary loops and dilatations which we call "glomeruli" in this paper. Filtering functions are suggested for the "glomerulus". The response of the lobed canal and the first and second rounded segments to Gomori's reaction is strongly positive and this is found to coincide with the largest concentration of "glomeruli" in the main loops 1 and II, that suggests a higher filtration capacity for the canal and segments.
