A pesquisa apresentada neste artigo, inscrita na Linguística Aplicada e inserida nos marcos teórico-metodológicos da Análise da Conversa (Sacks, 1992; Sacks; Schegloff; Jefferson, 1974) de natureza etnometodológica (Garfinkel, 1967), descreve e analisa qualitativamente interações entre um conselheiro tutelar e duas crianças vítimas de abuso sexual. Assumindo a necessidade de entender o abuso sexual de forma mais interdisciplinar, pesquisas sobre o uso situado da fala e sobre as práticas narrativas com crianças podem contribuir para evitar o fenômeno da revitimização institucional (Cézar, 2007). Durante a empreitada interacional de reconstruir o evento de abuso, é possível identificar que o conselheiro tutelar se orienta para a sua meta de construir um relatório convincente e reportável para o sistema judiciário (i.e. Promotoria da Infância e da Juventude; Ministério Público), conduzindo a atividade de modo a contemplar as evidências que ele julga necessárias. Os contornos da narrativa são, então, construídos de acordo com a ação que ela desempenha na interação (i.e. garantir medida de proteção para a vítima e punição para o/a agressor/a). Em especial, a análise dos dados aponta que o conselheiro se envolve ativamente na ação de significar a experiência com a vítima, acionando diversas estratégias interacionais, dentre as quais a formulação de perguntas polares e a oferta de itens lexicais, para descrever os sentimentos da criança. O engajamento do conselheiro na ação de significar a experiência acaba por assumir um valor prescritivo de significação da experiência do abuso e de performance da identidade de vítima (Ehrlich, 2002; Trinch, 2013). Ao realizar a atividade de significar as experiências das vítimas, o conselheiro faz emergir na fala-em-interação os valores morais que permeiam o discurso jurídico, que são também elementos de socialização das crianças sobre como sentir e falar sobre a violência sofrida. Estudos com a interface linguagem e violência sexual contribuem também para equacionar o dilema da necessidade de construir narrativas reportáveis ao sistema judiciário sem retirar a agentividade da vítima em significar a sua experiência. Além disso, podem servir de insumo para os/as profissionais que acolhem narrativas de crianças vítimas.

This research study, that derives from an applied linguistics perspective and is grounded on conversational analytical (Sacks, 1992; Sacks; Schegloff; Jefferson, 1974) and ethnomethodological methods (Garfinkel, 1967), qualitatively analyzes interactions between a tutelary child protection counselor ("conselheiro tutelar") and two children victims of sexual abuse. By undertaking the demand of trying to understand sexual abuse in a more interdisciplinary way, research studies of the situated use of talk-in-interaction and of the narrative practices of children victims of sexual abuse might contribute to avoid the phenomenon of institutional revictimization (Cézar, 2007). During the demand of reconstructing the event of abuse, it is possible to identify that the counselor orients himself to a goal of producing a convincing report to the judiciary system (i.e. "Promotoria da Infância e da Juventude"; Public Ministry), leading the activity in such a way so as to produce evidences that he judges as necessary. The narrative is, then, shaped according to the actions being performed in the interaction (i.e. to guarantee a restraining order and punishment to the abuser). In particular, the data analysis shows that the counselor gets highly involved with the task of signifying the victim's experience with them, actualizing diverse interactional practices, among which, the use of polar questions and the offer of specific lexical itens, in order to describe the child's feelings. The counselor's engagement in the task of signifying the experience ends up assuming a prescriptive value of meaning attribution to the experience of abuse and of identity performance of the victim (Ehrlich, 2002; Trinch, 2013). Upon undertaking the activity of signifying the victims' experiences, the counselor actualizes in talk-ininteraction the moral values that permeate the judicial discourse, which are also elements of socialization of the child on how to feel and talk about the violence they have suffered. Studies such as the one proposed here - i.e. that investigate the interface of language use and sexual violence - might contribute to equalizing the dilemma generated by the need of producing narratives reportabled and valued by the judicial system without depriving the victim's right of agency in signifying their own experience. Furthermore, they might work as input for the professionals who act as interlocutors to narratives of children victims of sexual abuse.

Com base na visão de modalidade do arcabouço teórico da sintaxe descritiva, este trabalho analisou um corpus de aprendizes em comparação com um corpus de falantes nativos do inglês com o objetivo de identificar padrões diferenciados na expressão de valores modais. Para tanto, o estudo concentrou sua análise em n-grams contendo verbos modais e advérbios que expressam modalidade. Essa análise revelou a prevalência dos valores modais epistêmicos em ambos os corpora, bem como a existência de padrões distintos na expressão desse tipo de modalidade. No corpus de não-nativos, percebeu-se uma expressão mais restrita da modalidade quando comparada à do corpus de nativos. No corpus de nativos, houve uma prevalência de advérbios com sentido modalizador. Nessa comparação, percebeu-se também um uso diferenciado de alguns verbos modais. Este estudo pode contribuir para a área emergente dos estudos linguísticos de corpora e para a área da sintaxe, com possíveis implicações para o ensino de escrita acadêmica em inglês.

Based on the view of modality in the theoretical framework of descriptive syntax, this study examined a corpus of learners compared with a corpus of native speakers of English, aiming to identify different patterns of expression of modal meanings, particularly, adverbs and modal verbs. Therefore, the study focused its analysis on n-grams containing modal verbs and adverbs that express modality. This analysis revealed the prevalence of epistemic values in both corpora, and the existence of distinct patterns in the expression of this type of modality. In the non-native corpus, the expression of modality is restricted when compared to the native speakers'. In the corpus of native speakers, there was a prevalence of adverbs with modalizing meanings. In addition, learners tend to use some modal verbs differently. This study may contribute to the emerging field of corpora linguistic studies as well as to the area of syntax, with possible implications for the teaching of academic writing in English.

Teletandem é um contexto telecolaborativo de aprendizagem que envolve dois falantes nativos (ou competentes) de diferentes línguas. Utilizando o Skype, cada participante faz papel de aluno por meia hora, falando e praticando a língua do seu parceiro. Este artigo enfoca a interação em teletandem entre dois estudantes universitários - uma brasileira e um estadunidense. Na primeira parte, sustentamos nossa pressuposição de que os participantes do teletandem compartilham informações acerca das respectivas culturas. Na segunda, apresentamos cinco dimensões do conceito de cultura, definimos aprendizagem cultural e propomos uma unidade de análise para interpretação dos dados - o episódio relacionado a cultura. Por fim, sugerimos diretrizes para futuras pesquisas relacionadas à aprendizagem de línguas e culturas em contextos colaborativos on-line.

Teletandem is a telecollaborative learning context that involves pairs of native (or competent) speakers of different languages. Using Skype, each participant plays the role of learner for half an hour by speaking and practicing the language of his partner. This paper focuses on a teletandem interaction between two university students - one Brazilian and one American. In the first part, we sustain our proposition that the teletandem participants share information regarding the respective cultures. In the second part, we present five dimensions of the concept of culture, define cultural learning and propose a unit of analysis for interpreting the data - the culture-related episode. Finally, we suggest guidelines for further research related to the learning of languages and cultures in online collaborative contexts.

Este estudo propõe uma análise comparativa das representações poéticas do heterônimo pessoano Álvaro de Campos. O corpus investigado são os poemas traduzidos por Richard Zenith para a língua inglesa e seus respectivos originais. Esta pesquisa discute se as construções textuais do heterônimo nos poemas traduzidos apresentam equivalência com os originais, tendo como base para as análises o conceito de mudança proposto por (CATFORD, 1965), mas avançando na discussão dos elementos de transitividade, da Gramática Sistêmico Funcional proposta por (HALLIDAY & MATTHIESSEN, 2004). Os procedimentos metodológicos foram, primeiramente, a identificação, classificação e interpretação dos elementos oracionais, de modo a verificar se as possíveis mudanças nos tipos de processos e circunstâncias reelaboraram, de alguma maneira, os significados ideacionais do heterônimo na tradução. A pesquisa mostrou que, apesar das mudanças ideacionais ocorridas em alguns versos, o "eu" lírico, representado por Álvaro de Campos, apresentou na tradução uma construção textual bastante similar à do original. De igual modo, as representações do mundo ficcional do heterônimo não sofreram mudanças, o que revela grande preocupação por parte do tradutor em manter a equivalência semântica em suas escolhas lexicais.

This study proposes a comparative analysis of the poetic representations of Fernando Pessoa's heteronym Álvaro de Campos. The corpora investigated are the poems translated by Richard Zenith into the English language and their originals. Stemming from the concept of shift proposed by (CATFORD, 1965), this study expands the concept by adding to it some transitivity elements from Halliday & Matthiessen's Systemic Functional Grammar (2004). Bearing this in mind, the paper discusses whether the textual constructions of the analyzed poems show equivalence with their original. The methodological procedures for that were primarily the identification, classification and interpretation of the clause elements in order to verify whether the possible shifts in the types of processes and circumstances change, somehow, the heteronym's ideational meanings in the translation. The research has shown that the lyrical "I", represented by Álvaro de Campos in the translation, presents a somewhat similar textual construction when compared to the original. Likewise, the heteronym's fictional world representations have not changed in the translated text, which reveals a great concern from the translator's part in keeping a semantic equivalence in the lexical choices he made.

O presente artigo discute a noção de prática translíngue, em contraposição a orientações monolíngues e monolíticas, no campo do ensino de língua estrangeira. Para tanto, são tecidas considerações sobre a noção de superdiversidade e seus impactos nos modos de expressão e construção de conhecimento na atualidade. As teorizações bakhtinianas, por meio dos conceitos de dialogismo e heteroglossia, são atreladas às bases do pensamento translíngue, trazendo à tona a ideia de espaço público para sustentar a importância de uma pedagogia voltada à responsabilidade social.

This paper presents the concept of translingual practice as opposed to monolithic and monolingual perspectives within the field of foreign language teaching. The notion of superdiversity is also discussed, as well as its implications to the ways meanings and knowledge are constructed these days. Bakhtinian theories, especially as far as the notions of dialogism and heteroglossia are concerned, are linked to the translingual approach raising the idea of public space in order to support the importance of a pedagogy concerned with the development of social responsibility.

Estudo dos locativos derivados de UBI e UNDE latinos no Atalaya de las crónicas, relato histórico escrito em espanhol por Alfonso Martínez de Toledo, datado do século XV. O sistema de derivados do UBI e UNDE latinos é composto de três categorias gramaticais: advérbios, pronomes relativos e conjunções, cujas formas mais frequentes foram DONDE e DO. Os itens, basicamente locativos concretos, tendem a abstratizar-se e a expandir seus significados, chegando a mudar, inclusive, de função gramatical, adquirindo maior gramaticalidade. Assim, além da descrição dos locativos, analisou-se a gramaticalização e o surgimento da conjunção DONDE. Essa abstratização favoreceu a reanálise do pronome relativo em conjunção, o que pôde ser bem compreendido a partir da observação de ocorrências ambíguas, inseridas em contextos que permitem uma dupla interpretação: pronome relativo ou conjunção.

This is a study of locatives derived from Latin UBI and UNDE in the Spanish chronicles Atalaya de las crónicas, by Alfonso Martínez de Toledo, dating from the fifteenth century. The system derived from UBI and UNDE is composed of adverbs, relative pronouns and conjunctions and DONDE and DO are their most frequent forms. Besides the description of locatives, we analyse the grammaticalization and the emergence of the conjunction DONDE. These items are basically concrete locatives and tend to become more abstract and expand their meanings. They can even change their grammatical function, acquiring more grammaticality. This process of abstratization favoured a reanalysis of the relative pronoun in conjunction, which could be understood from the observation of what we call ambiguous items, set in contexts that allows a double interpretation.

Este artigo analisa os posicionamentos interacionais (DAVIES & HARRÉ, 1999) das/dos participantes da rede social Filmow ao comentarem aspectos relativos ao gênero e à sexualidade abordados em Tudo sobre minha mãe, de Almodóvar, destacando aqueles que remetem às personagens transgêneros. Privilegiamos um instrumental analítico que se centra na contextualização de pistas indexicais (WORTHAM, 2001). Por entender o gênero pelo prisma da performatividade (BUTLER, 1990), recorremos às Teorias Queer na fundamentação teórica. Os resultados indicam que o filme impulsiona as/os participantes a refletirem sobre performances discursivo-identitárias não hegemônicas, mesmo que nem sempre assumam posicionamentos transgressores. Aventam-se razões para as dificuldades de mobilizar discursos transgressivos.

This article analyzes the interactional positionings (DAVIES & HARRÉ, 1999) of Filmow social network participants when commenting on aspects of gender and sexuality addressed in Almodovar's All About my mother, highlighting those that refer to transgender characters. We use an analytical tool that focuses on the contextualization of indexical cues (WORTHAM, 2001). By understanding gender through the perspective of performativity (BUTLER, 1990), we use Queer Theories as a theoretical basis. The study indicates the film drives participants to reflect on non-hegemonic discursive identity performances, even though participants do not always take transgressive positionings. Then we suggest reasons for the difficulties of mobilizing transgressive discourses.

O aporte teórico-metodológico deste estudo é tomado da vertente faircloughiana de Análise de Discurso Crítica. Com base em Fairclough (2003), que concebe o discurso na confluência de três práticas, quais sejam, as práticas linguística, discursiva e social, as análises aqui empreendidas se voltam para práticas discursivas de parlamentares que ocupam o espaço sociopolítico do Parlamento Nacional brasileiro para abordarem o tema "mulher". O ethos dos atores políticos envolvidos nessa prática é discutido a partir dos significados identificacionais, dimensão analítica que, ao lado dos significados acionais e representacionais, se faz presente no modelo teórico-metodológico criado por Fairclough para análise de texto numa perspectiva social. A natureza argumentativa dos textos a partir dos quais foram extraídos os dados deste estudo, mostrou-se propícia à inclusão de aspectos abordados por Aristóteles (2000) em sua Retórica das Paixões, tais como cólera, calma e favor, categorias que, entre outros fatores, se coadunam com modos particulares de ser (identidades sociais pessoais) focalizados neste artigo. Em consonância com a proposta de discutir o espaço político da constituição discursiva da realidade social feminina, lanço mão daquilo que Charaudeau (2006) denomina de lugares de fabricação do discurso político, a saber, um lugar de governança, um lugar de opinião e um lugar de mediação. O estudo demonstra que a prática discursiva parlamentar sofre influências do contexto institucional da produção textual, no seio do qual o tratamento de temas relativos aos sujeitos sociais femininos se converte em instrumento útil ao agir parlamentar, bem como ao funcionamento e atuação das ideologias sobre o mundo da vida daquelas que se vêem nela representadas.

Current analysis is based on the theoretical and methodological stance of the Faircloughian trend in Critical Discourse Analysis. Fairclough (2003) conceives discourse within the confluence of three types of practice, namely linguistic, discursive and social practice. Analyses discussed in this research refer to discursive practices of members of the Brazilian parliament who occupy this social and political space to take up themes on 'the female'. The ethos of the political agents involved in such a practice is debated from identificational meanings. It is actually an analytic dimension which, besides actional and representational meanings, is present in Fairclough´s theoretical and methodological model for text analysis within the social perspective. The text´s arguments from which data in current study have been extracted are highly favorable to the inclusion of aspects investigated by Aristotle (2000) in his Rhetoric of the Passions, such as anger, calmness and grace. They are categories which, among others, fit into particular modes of being (social and personal identities) which are focused in current article. Discussing the political space of the discourse constitution of the feminine social reality, the article introduces Charaudeau (2006) who calls the above the fabrication sites of political discourse, or rather, a place of government, opinion and mediation. The study has showed that the parliamentary discursive practices is affected by the institutional context of the textual production, where the female themes is converted into a profitable tool for the parliamentary action, as so for the actuation of the ideologies upon the world life of the females represented in these practices.

Neste trabalho, objetivamos discutir a teoria de (Benveniste 1988 e 1989) sobre a categoria de pessoa na linguagem e examinar suas implicações na enunciação infantil. Para isso, iremos revisitar a abordagem enunciativa de Benveniste, destacando algumas questões correlacionadas à teoria da pessoalidade. Após isso, buscaremos apresentar dados ilustrativos para discutir a emergência e o funcionamento dos índices de pessoa na fala da criança. O corpus de que dispomos é formado por dados de interação envolvendo três crianças diferentes (e suas respectivas mães) em situações naturalísticas, presentes na pesquisa de Ferreira Júnior (2009). As análises dos nossos dados mostram que há mecanismos enunciativos subjacentes à fala da criança que comportam modos de apropriação do sistema da língua e de engajamento do sujeito na relação discursiva com o outro.

The purposes of this study are to discuss (Benveniste´s theory 1988,1989) as regards the person category in language and to examine its implications in child enunciation. To this end, Benveniste´s approach to enunciation will be revisited with the purpose of highlighting some issues related to the theory of personhood. After that, we will analyze illustrative data in order to discuss the emergence and functioning of person indices in child speech. The corpus consists of data drawn from Ferreira Júnior´s previous research (2009) involving three children engaged in spontaneous interaction with their respective mothers. The results indicate that there are enunciative mechanisms underlying child speech that comprise modes of appropriation of the language system and modes of subject's engagement in discourse.

Psicopatia envolve uma série de características cognitivas, sociais e emocionais específicas que diferenciam o psicopata do resto da população; as duas características mais notáveis ​​são os déficits emocionais extremos e profundos refletidos na apatia do próprio egoísmo. Também vale destacar as habilidades de comunicação dos psicopatas, que usam a linguagem para mentir. Há uma falta de estudos sobre o discurso de psicopatas, especialmente em espanhol; portanto, o presente estudo objetiva contrastrar declarações veridicas com outras declarações difamatórias verdadeiras. A análise textual feita enquadra-se no campo da linguística computacional forense, e é complementada com informações mais específicas para os procedimentos estilometria textual. A pesquisa mostra como o parâmetro de idioma predominante para a condição psicológica do psicopata tem a ver com a distribuição de pessoa gramatical; além disso, evidencia a frequência de uso de certos advérbios modais de segurança e verbos relacionados com os processos cognitivos.

Psychopathy involves a series of specific cognitive, social and emotional features which make the psychopath different from the general population; the two most significant characteristics are extreme selfishness and deep emotional deficit that is reflected in apathy. Notably, psychopaths are skilled communicators who that use language to lie. As there has been little examination of the speech associated specifically with psychopaths, especially in the Spanish language, the present study aims to contrast different veracious excerpts to others which are deceptive. The text analysis is framed within forensic computational linguistics, and complemented with some information related to the stylometric profile of the text. The investigation shows how the parameter mainly affected by the psychological condition of the psychopath subject is the distribution of grammatical persons; in addition, some further evidence includes the frequency of certainty adverbs and verbs related to cognitive processes.

Neste artigo, parte de uma pesquisa mais ampla sobre a representação discursiva do parto, realizamos análise discursiva crítica de uma carta ao obstetra que tematiza a violência obstétrica. A justificativa para a escolha desse tema é a hospitalização do parto no Brasil, onde se observa um índice de 82% de cesarianas na rede privada, o mais alto do mundo. E a escolha do objeto justifica-se por se tratar de gênero discursivo inovador e relacionado ao movimento pró parto natural no Brasil. Partindo de categorias analíticas como avaliação, coesão, modalidade, pressuposição, intensificação, investigamos estilos no texto, considerando a construção discursiva de identidade e identificação. Nossa análise aponta alto teor de intensificação e negação, além da expressão recorrente de afetos, julgamentos e apreciações. Considerado o documento como registro de uma conjuntura, interpretamos a avaliação do comportamento da médica como parte de uma crítica mais ampla ao modelo de assistência vigente no Brasil, o que materializa aspectos da luta hegemônica travada no discurso.

In this paper, which is part of a broader study on the discursive representation of pregnancy and childbirth, we present a critical discourse analysis of a 'letter to the obstetrician'. The choice of this theme was motivated by the question of hospitalization of childbirth in Brazil, country where the index of caesarean surgeries registered in private hospitals is 82%, the highest in the world. In addition, the choice of this kind of letter as analytical object to this paper is due to the realization of an innovative discursive genre, related to the pro natural childbirth movement in Brazil. Employing analytical categories as assessment, cohesion, modality, presupposition and intensification, we investigate styles in the text, considering the discursive construction of identity and processes of identification. Our analysis indicates high use of intensification and denial, beyond the recurrent expression of feelings, judgments and assessments. Taking the document as a record of a situation, we interpret the doctor's performance evaluation as part of a wider criticism of the care model in Brazil, which embodies aspects of hegemonic struggle discursively performed.
