RESUMO O presente volume reúne alguns dos trabalhos apresentados no primeiro encontro (2014) do então recém-fundado GT da Anpoll, Estudos Saussurianos, que tem por objetivo reunir pesquisadores brasileiros e estrangeiros dedicados ao estudo do sistema conceitual saussuriano. Grande parte dos textos aqui apresentados enquadram-se no que se convencionou chamar “filologia saussuriana”, que compreende um esforço de reconstituição do pensamento de Saussure a partir de textos publicados ou manuscritos do autor. Além desse campo de estudo, podemos ler igualmente trabalhos que procuram refletir sobre a relevância da teorização saussuriana para as análises nas áreas da Aquisição e Clínica de Linguagem. Um e outro grupo de artigos oferecem ao leitor uma amostra do efeito irradiador do pensamento saussuriano que, como sabemos, ultrapassa a fronteira da linguística para exercer um papel renovador na reflexão das ciências humanas em geral.

ABSTRACT This volume brings together some of the works presented at the first meeting (2014) of the newly founded Anpoll work group Saussurean Studies, which aims to gather Brazilian and foreign researchers dedicated to the study of the Saussurean conceptual system. Most of the texts herein presented fit into what is called “Saussurean philology”, which includes an effort to reconstitute Saussure’s thought derived from the author’s published texts or manuscripts. In addition to this field of study there are other works that seek to reflect on the relevance of Saussure’s theory for the analysis in the areas of Language Acquisition and Language Clinics. Both groups of articles offer the reader a sample of the irradiating effect of Saussure’s thought, which, as we know, goes beyond the frontier of linguistics to renovate reflexion about the human sciences in general.

RESUMO Este artigo nasce da constatação de que o pensamento do “pai da Linguística” não rendeu no campo dos estudos linguísticos. Saussure é mencionado como organizador de ideias sobre a linguagem, como quem formulou famosas dicotomias, mas a novidade saussuriana , representada por la langue - o objeto perene e universal da linguagem - não teve incidência na produção linguística depois de Benveniste e Jakobson. Este não foi o destino de Saussure em outras ciências humanas. Levi Strauss e Lacan são exemplos maiores do impacto de Saussure fora de seu campo próprio. Há, no Curso de Linguística Geral, duas definições de língua, de certo modo conflitantes. Desenvolve-se, aqui, o argumento de que uma delas está na base da leitura desvitalizante de Saussure e outra, aquela que introduz o pensamento do negativo, vem como solo da produtividade que pode ter em outros campos.

ABSTRACT This article takes into account the astonishing verification that the fundamental concept, introduced by “the father of Linguistics”, was fruitless within the field it appeared and was elaborated. Saussure is mentioned as the organizer of ideas about language, as the formulator of famous dichotomies, but the idea of la langue as the “object of Linguistics” and its possible consequences were not the focus of interest. Exceptions were, no doubt, Benveniste and Jakobson. On the whole, la langue, as “symbolic functioning”, neither reducible to any particular language nor with grammar, did not guide the approach to Saussure. It should be pointed out that Saussure’s destiny was quite different outside de field of Linguistics: Lévi- Strauss and Lacan are glaring examples of the impact of Saussure’s ideas in Anthropology and in Psychoanalysis. Two conflicting definitions of la langue can be found in the Cours de Linguistique Générale. This article puts forth and explores the argument that one of them is at the bases of the devitalizing reading, mentioned above, and the other, that one which sustains the negative reasoning which relates la langue to the notion of “value” , is responsible for the fructiferous effects of that concept in other realms.

RESUMO Este artigo acompanha o pensamento saussuriano na sua concepção do fenômeno da analogia como uma atividade criativa distinta da mudança fonética. A complexidade do tema se deve, pelo menos em parte, ao fato de a analogia participar ao mesmo tempo da fala e da língua - o que inclui o falante na sua relação com o funcionamento do mecanismo da língua - e ao fato de se situar no cruzamento dos eixos sincrônico e diacrônico. É no entroncamento do tempo que se observa a diferença entre a criação analógica do adulto, que pode vir a ser adotada pela língua e a da criança que, para Saussure, não tem futuro na língua.

ABSTRACT This article tracks Saussurean thought in its conception of the phenomenon of analogy as a creative activity distinct from phonetic change. The theme’s complexity is at least partly due to the fact that analogy participates, at the same time, both in speech and language - what includes the speaker in his/her relation with the functioning of language’s mechanism - and to the fact of it being situated at the intersection of the synchronic and diachronic axes. It is at the junction of time that one observes the difference between the analogical creations of adults, which may eventually be adopted by language, and those of the child, which, for Saussure, have no future in language.

RESUMO Ao percorrer alguns dos manuscritos de Ferdinand de Saussure percebe-se que a existência da rasura é marcada por uma grande flutuação. Ora ela é muito presente, ora é rara, além dessa flutuação quantitativa também se percebe que no interior de um mesmo manuscrito a rasura pode ocorrer por motivos diferentes os quais podem determinar a sua frequência. Em alguns manuscritos a rasura que corrige o estilo se repete menos que a rasura que incide sobre as construções de um conceito em elaboração. Algumas rasuras são produtivas, portanto, outras não. Tal complexidade nos leva a percorrer, nesse trabalho, alguns manuscritos de Saussure e dar destaque as suas rasuras de modo a compreender melhor a sua flutuação e, a partir daí, entender o mecanismo da rasura como parte do processo de produção de Saussure.

ABSTRACT Going through some of Ferdinand de Saussure’s manuscripts it is noticeable that the occurrence of erasure is marked by a great fluctuation. Either it is very present, or it is rare, besides this fluctuation it is also perceptive that in the interior of the same manuscript the erasure can occur for different reasons which can determine its frequency. In some manuscripts, the erasure that corrects the style repeats less than the erasure which concern constructions that apply for the concept’s elaboration. Some erasures are productive, therefore, others are not. Such complexity take us, in this work, to go through some Saussure’s manuscripts and emphasize the erasures so that we comprehend the fluctuation and, from then on, understand the erasure’s mechanism as a part of Saussure’s production process.

RESUMO Este trabalho investiga o conceito de fonema em Saussure e objetiva elucidar o lugar por ele ocupado em suas formulações teóricas a propósito da ciência da linguagem e de seu objeto. Por situar-se no intervalo entre fonação e impressão acústica, o conceito saussuriano de fonema exige o sujeito falante -“nicho da linguagem e da língua” - e desloca o discurso naturalista da gramática comparada sem, contudo, fundar uma nova ciência. A partir de Milner (2012), assumimos que Saussure dá continuidade à linguística inaugurada por F. Bopp e, para dar conta da continuidade e do deslocamento mencionados, buscamos explicar as razões deste em função daquela.

ABSTRACT This work investigates the concept of phoneme in Saussure and aims to elucidate the place it occupies within his theoretical formulations concerning the science of language and its object. Situated in the interval between phonation and acoustic printing, the Saussurian notion of phoneme requires the speaking subject - “niche of langue et langage” - and displaces the naturalistic standpoint of comparative grammar without founding a new science. Based on Milner (2012), we assume that Saussure continues the linguistics inaugurated by F. Bopp and, to account for the continuity and the displacement referred, we seek to explain the reasons of the latter on the basis of the former.

RESUMO O presente artigo tem como objetivo realizar um percurso de leitura acerca da importância do aspecto fônico da língua no legado do mestre genebrino Ferdinand de Saussure. Partindo das noções de concreto e abstrato presentes no clássico livro Curso de Linguística Geral (CLG), são analisados os conceitos de fonema, fonética e fonologia presentes na obra. A abordagem da materialidade fônica no CLG é contrastada com duas outras importantes fontes manuscritas do autor, os Escritos de Linguística Geral e o manuscrito harvardiano Phonétique.

ABSTRACT The present paper aims to carry out a reading path concerning the importance of the phonic aspect of language in the legacy of Genevan master Ferdinand de Saussure. Starting from the concrete and abstract notions present in the classic book Course in General Linguistics (CLG), the concepts of phoneme, phonetics and phonology are analyzed in the work. The approach of phonic materiality in CLG is in contrast with two other important manuscript sources of the author: Writings in General Linguistics and Harvard’s manuscript Phonétique.

RESUMO Este artigo aborda criticamente alguns aspectos da “avaliação da linguagem”, uma instância importante do processo diagnóstico. Comentários críticos, referentes à prática, assentada na Fonoaudiologia, de projeção de aparatos gramaticais sobre dados de falas sintomáticas para decidir sobre normalidade ou patologia são apresentados e discutidos. Argumenta-se que instrumentos descritivos de natureza categorial só podem conduzir a análises negativas e deixam passar a mobilidade efetiva que caracteriza falas patológicas. De fato, resultados diagnósticos raramente tomam distância de uma paráfrase sofisticada da queixa do paciente. Assume-se, neste artigo, que as ideias de Saussure são uma saída das descrições. Elas abrem a possibilidade de abordar a fala como algo mais do que mera atualização da gramática, o que é essencial frente a natureza idiossincrática de falas sintomáticas. Procura-se, aqui, iluminar a importância de considerar o funcionamento da linguagem e tomar relações como primitivos nas avaliações de linguagem.

ABSTRACT This article discusses decisive aspects related to the “language evaluation” moment of the therapeutic process which leads to a diagnostic conclusion. Some critical comments concerning the widespread application of grammatical apparatuses to evaluate and decide between the normal/pathological polarity are presented and discussed. It is argued that such descriptive instruments are insufficient and misguiding because they can only offer negative description which end up in labelling symptomatic speech as “deviant”, thus missing the positive and effective mobility of the intriguing pathological language manifestations. Indeed, in most cases, “language evaluation” is nothing but a sophisticated paraphrase of the patient’s complaint. It is assumed here that Saussure’s ideas represent a way out of description. In other words, they open the possibility of understanding language and its functioning in speech without approaching speech as mere actualization of grammar. Taking into account the idiosyncratic nature of pathological speech, this paper endeavors to highlight the need for considering the functioning of language as autonomous, as inferred from Saussure’s view on relations as primitives.

RESUMO Neste artigo, nosso objetivo é percorrer alguns dos manuscritos de Saussure e de seus alunos - tais como a Primeira Conferência de Saussure na Universidade de Genebra e os cadernos de Riedlinger referentes ao primeiro e ao segundo cursos de Saussure -, bem como o Curso de Linguística Geral - CLG (1916), a fim de analisar, no corte sincrônico, o papel do sujeito falante saussuriano em relação à analogia. Nossa intenção é, primeiramente, delinear os contornos do funcionamento da analogia e, em um segundo passo, verificar a relação do sujeito falante com as criações linguísticas decorrentes desse fenômeno.

ABSTRACT The aim of the present study is to go through some of the manuscripts of Saussure, such as the First Saussure Conference at the University of Geneva and the notebooks of his students, especially the Riedlinger’s notes from the first and the second Saussure’s courses, as well as the Course in General Linguistics (1916), focused on the analyzes, from the synchronic perspective, of the role of the Saussure’s speaking subject in relation to the analogy. Our intention is to delineate the contours of the analogy in order to verify the relation of the speaking subject with the linguistic creations derived from this phenomenon.

RESUMO Cem anos depois da publicação do Cours de Linguistique Générale, sua importância chega até nossos dias, acrescida do interesse pela descoberta de novos documentos. Nas lições de Saussure exemplifica-se o fenômeno da analogia com falas de criança, ilustração esta que ultrapassa o mero propósito pedagógico e, a serviço da teorização, oferece um ponto de partida capaz de convocar outros pilares do edifício conceitual saussuriano (língua e fala, mecanismo associativo-sintagmático, para dizer o mínimo). Neste trabalho aceitamos o convite de Saussure de “escutar uma criança”, explorando através da evidência empírica disponível, inovações que nos fazem “toucher du doigt le jeu du mécanisme linguistique” - imagem sugestiva de questões teóricas e empíricas, aptas a atestar a atualidade dos fundamentos do pensamento saussuriano nos estudos sobre a fala da criança.

ABSTRACT One hundred years after the publication of the Cours de Linguistique Générale, its importance reaches our days enhanced by interest in the discovery of new documents. In Saussure’s lessons, the phenomenon of analogy is exemplified by children’s speech, an illustration that surpasses mere pedagogical purposes and, at the service of theorization, offers a point of departure that is able to evoke other pillars of the Saussurean conceptual edifice (language and speech, the associative-syntagmatic mechanism, to say the least). In this work, we accept Saussure’s invitation to “listen to a child”, exploring, through the available empirical evidence, innovations which make us “toucher du doigt le jeu du mécanisme linguistique” - an image suggestive of theoretical and empirical questions capable of attesting the up-to-dateness of the foundations of Saussurean thought in the studies on child speech.

RESUMO Desde suas primeiras publicações, na década de 1960, a produção saussureana sobre os anagramas (1906-1909) tem sido cotejada com o Curso de Linguística Geral, ou CLG, publicado em 1916, e com outros manuscritos saussureanos. Nesse artigo, o objetivo é analisar dois conceitos abordados nessas produções, visando caracterizar suas semelhanças: o de analogia, com base nas Três Conferências de 1891 e no CLG, e o de hipograma, com base na produção sobre os anagramas. Veremos que, embora esses conceitos estejam inseridos em produções distintas, com pontos de vista diferentes, eles não deixam de apresentar mais semelhanças do que oposições.

ABSTRACT Since its earliest publications in the 1960s, Saussurean production on anagrams (1906-1909) has been compared with the General Linguistic Course, or CLG, published in 1916, and with other Saussurean manuscripts. In this article, the objective is to analyze two concepts approached in these productions, aiming to characterize their similarities: that of analogy, based on 1891 Three Conferences and CLG, and the hypogram, based on the production on the anagrams. We will see that, although these concepts are inserted in different productions, with different points of view, they present more similarities than oppositions.

RESUMO Neste artigo, pretendeu-se explicitar o estudo realizado por Ferdinand de Saussure sobre as lendas germânicas. Esse estudo, que compreende 18 cadernos e várias folhas avulsas, foi desenvolvido entre 1903 e 1910 e, dessa forma, é em parte concomitante com os cursos de linguística geral ministrados por Saussure entre 1907 e 1910. Assim, investigamos em quais aspectos os estudos mitográficos de Saussure se relacionam com sua teorização sobre linguística geral, considerando especificamente a categoria linguística do nome próprio e as noções de arbitrariedade, mutabilidade e imutabilidade do signo e valor linguístico.

ABSTRACT In this work, we aimed to expose the study carried out by Ferdinand de Saussure about the Germanic legends. The study, which comprehends 18 notebook and various separate sheets, was developed between 1903 and 1910. Therefore, it is, to some extent, concomitant to the courses in General Linguistics taught by Saussure from 1907 to 1910. This way, we investigated in which aspects Saussure’s mithografic studies are related to his theorization on General Linguistics, considering specifically the linguistic category of the proper name and the notions of arbitrariness, mutability and immutability of the sign as well as the concept of linguistic value.
