This article aims to critically evaluate two objects produced by the cultural industry - the star and the diva - with regard to their centrality in the mass culture and in the mass media. The concepts, drawn from both categories, open discussions about the consumption of culture in art and literature, as well as enable a promising analyis on the dynamics of the objects in a consumption society.

El artículo analiza las expectativas y experiencias relativas a la primera relación sexual de adolescentes, a partir de entrevistas semiestructuradas individuales a 22 varones y 22 mujeres, de entre 15 y 19 años de edad, pertenecientes a estratos socioeconómicos medios y residentes en Trelew, una ciudad de 100 mil habitantes en la Patagonia argentina. Se centra en los papeles esperados y las vivencias de presiones para la iniciación sexual. Los papeles esperados para varones y mujeres reflejan expectativas de género asimétricas y pueden favorecer acciones coercitivas por parte de parejas y amistades. Estas coerciones pueden ser interpretadas a partir del tipo de vínculo con la persona con que debutan sexualmente y la influencia de las redes de pares en tanto público interesado en dicho evento. El análisis de los testimonios tiene a la teoría de los guiones sexuales como marco de referencia, y considera las dimensiones de género y edad de las y los entrevistados.

The article analyses the expectations and experiences related to the first sexual relation of teenagers. The research is based on individual semi-structured interviews with 22 men and 22 women aged from 15 to 19 , belonging to the middle class layer from Trelew, a city of 100,000 inhabitants in the Argentinean Patagonia. The article focuses on the expected roles and experiences of pressure for sexual initiation. Desired roles for girls and boys regarding their first sexual relation reflect asymmetric gender expectations and can lead to coercive actions of partners and friends. These coercions can be interpreted considering the relations with the sexual partner and the influence of teenagers' networks as a public interested in the first sexual relation. The testimonies are analyzed within a sexual scripting theory, and considering gender and age of the interviewed actors.

Este artigo pretende discorrer sobre os primeiros processos de divórcio (1977 a 1985), possibilitados pela Lei n. 6.515, de 26.12.1977 (a chamada Lei do Divórcio), em Florianópolis, através de pesquisa efetuada na Divisão de Arquivo e Memória do Poder Judiciário, em Santa Catarina. E, perceber como, apesar dos discursos apelativos das instituições a esse recurso jurídico (principalmente a Igreja Católica e as entidades a ela ligadas), que apregoavam o perigo da dissolução da família e dos valores tradicionais a ela agregados, tal lei veio, de modo geral, legalizar práticas familiares já estabelecidas. Também analisar como os casais, separados há muitos anos e vivendo uma segunda união, solicitavam o divórcio com o objetivo de regularizar sua situação civil, vivida, até aquele momento, à margem da lei. Observando os discursos jurídicos, nota-se a reprodução de valores prescritos a um e outro gênero e as relações de poder subjacentes nesses enunciados.

This article intends to discuss the first divorce processes (from 1977 to 1985), that were made possible by the Law 6.515, of 26.12.1977 (called the Law of Divorce), in Florianópolis, through the research made in the File and Memory Division, from the Judicial Bureau of Santa Catarina State. This research realizes how - in spite of the appellative speeches of the institutions to this juridical instance (principally the Catholic Church and the institutions connected to it), that cursed the danger of family dissolution and its traditional values - such law was created mostly to legalize already established familiar habits. It also analyzes how the couples, who had been separated for many years and had established a new union, asked for divorce with the objective of regularizing their civil situation, which had been, until that moment, at the edge of the law. Observing the juridical speeches, we noticed the reproduction of prescribed values to one and other gender, and the power relations underlying these statements.

El presente artículo muestra las reflexiones etnográficas de una investigadora que indaga sobre el rol de un grupo de mujeres dentro de la comunidad del Software Libre en Colombia. Particularmente se problematizan las maneras en que la práctica etnográfica, desde las perspectivas feministas, contribuye en la (re)construcción del género como una categoría analítica en las realidades sociales que estudia.

The article presents the ethnographic insights of a woman researcher that investigates the role of a group of women inside the Free Software community in Colombia. Particularly the article questions how the ethnographic practice, from a feminist perspective, contributes to the (re)construction of gender as an analytical category on the social realities it studies.

O incremento do encarceramento feminino tem levado as autoridades a confinarem mulheres dentro dos presídios masculinos. O estudo - oriundo de pesquisa realizada na 5ª Região Penitenciária do Rio Grande do Sul - discute as dinâmicas carcerárias, mostrando que o acesso aos espaços, a distribuição do trabalho, a aplicação dos castigos e a definição das regras disciplinares são referenciados por uma orientação masculina. Nesta, o poder se volta para as mulheres, visando condicionar suas práticas a uma sexualização dirigida para o viril, ao mesmo tempo que positiva, nesse padrão, os comportamentos masculinos. As especificidades da condição feminina em tais espaços conduzem a que se definam esses presídios como "masculinamente mistos".

The increase in women's imprisonment has pushed authorities to confine them in male prisons. The study of the research undertaken at the 5th Penitentiary Region of Rio Grande do Sul discusses the prison dynamics, showing that the access to areas in common, the task distribution, the punishments and the definition of disciplinary rules are based on male directions. Under these circumstances, the power turns to women aiming at conditioning their practices to sexualization directed to virility, affirming, at the same time, the male behaviors. The characteristics of the female condition in such environments lead to the definition of those prisons as "manly mixed".

As desigualdades existentes entre mulheres e homens no que se refere à qualidade de vida são patentes no Brasil e evidenciadas por indicadores socioeconômicos. Programas e ações governamentais concebidos e executados sem a adoção da perspectiva de gênero são um dos elementos que impedem a concretização do princípio de igualdade de oportunidades. A incorporação da transversalidade de gênero nas políticas públicas no Brasil é recente, assim como os estudos e a avaliação dos orçamentos públicos. Este artigo pretende contribuir para o avanço desse tema, discutindo e analisando a política social proposta no Plano Plurianual do governo de Mato Grosso à luz do enfoque transformador e da teoria feminista. Busca-se, também, refletir em que medida o governo local está observando o compromisso político assumido com o governo federal de enfrentar as desigualdades de gênero e de realizar a gestão transversal de políticas públicas, explicitadas no Plano Nacional de Políticas para as Mulheres.

The incorporation of the perspective of gender in the public policies in Brazil is quite recent, being few the registry and analysis of the provincial and municipal experiences, in special, that concern the initiatives of formulation and management of public budgets. This article tries to contribute to the overcoming of this fault, discussing and analyzing the 2004-2007 Pluriannual Plan of the Government of Mato Grosso State, under the light of the transforming approach (Sen, 1998) and of the feminist theory. Another discussion is whether the government is incorporating the political commitment assumed by the federal government to face the gender inequalities and to make the cross-sectional management of its public policies, specified in the National Plan of Policies for the Women.

Este trabalho se propõe a fazer algumas reflexões sobre a relação entre o público e o privado no contexto da operacionalização da política de assistência social, tendo por foco a família e o papel atribuído às mulheres. Há muito se vem criticando o papel instrumental das famílias e das mulheres dentro destas, no desenho das políticas de proteção social, com destaque para os programas de transferência de renda no âmbito da assistência. Com base em pesquisas¹ por nós desenvolvidas nesse âmbito, nossas reflexões são desenvolvidas tendo por eixos a família como locus da política social, com destaque para as políticas de combate à pobreza no âmbito da assistência social; as mulheres; e a mediação entre família e a política de assistência social no contexto do Sistema Único de Assistência Social.

The purpose of this paper is to reflect on the relationship between the public and private domains in the context of the operationalization of social assistance policies, focusing on the family and the role of women. For a long time there has been criticism on the instrumental role of families and women in such policies, in the organization of policies for social protection, with a focus on programs dealing with the transfer of income within social assistance. Based on research carried out in this area, the reflection has been organized in two topics: the family as the locus of social policies with an emphasis on policies aiming at the reduction of poverty in the context of social assistance; women and the mediation between families and social assistance policies in the context of the Unified System for Social Assistance.

A ciência brasileira desconhece o papel desempenhado pelas cientistas no país. Breves biografias de quatro mulheres que atuaram no Instituto Biológico de São Paulo e o relato da história de vida da imigrante judia Khäte Schwarz rompem o silêncio em torno da atuação das mulheres no mundo científico e mostram o papel delas no avanço da ciência, especialmente a aplicada à produção agrícola. Barreiras foram superadas por elas, mesmo em situações impostas por sistemas políticos. A criatividade e o espírito de investigação não foram limitados pela idade ou condição de gênero.

Women scientists' relevance in Brazil has been largely ignored by Brazilian Science. Short biographies of four women who worked for Instituto Biológico de São Paulo and the Jewish immigrant Khäte Schwarz's life account break with the silence regarding women's actuation in the scientific world and show the role they played in the improvements in the field, especially in agricultural production. They overcame barriers in situations imposed by the political systems. Creativity and the investigation strength were not limited by age of gender condition.

O texto apresenta uma reflexão crítica sobre algumas teorias de gênero, buscando evidenciar as principais questões referentes às mulheres no mercado de trabalho. Este artigo também discute algumas das limitações de gênero com as quais as mulheres se deparam em sua inserção profissional e no desenvolvimento de suas carreiras.

This paper presents an analytical reflection on several gender theories in an attempt to identify the main issues related to women in labor market. The article also discusses some of the gender limitations women have stumbled upon in their professional insertion and in their ascending in their careers.

Este artigo discute resultados parciais de estudo exploratório realizado com oficiais engenheiras navais da Marinha, o qual possibilitou uma aproximação ao entendimento da posição das engenheiras no Corpo de Oficiais Engenheiros Navais da Marinha. Pôde-se vislumbrar uma realidade complexa, em que relações de gênero e de trabalho na engenharia militar apresentam especificidades próprias, ao lado de padrões de inserção e integração similares aos encontrados na engenharia não militar. Inicialmente, apresentam-se algumas características do processo de integração das mulheres na Marinha. A seguir, discute-se a posição e a imagem das mulheres no Corpo de Oficiais Engenheiros Navais, o trabalho desenvolvido, as relações de gênero no ambiente militar, a partir das percepções das engenheiras entrevistadas. Finalizando, levantam-se questões e hipóteses para futuras investigações.

This article discusses some results of an exploratory study carried out with women official naval engineers of the Brazilian Navy. The results permitted an initial understanding of the female position in the Official Naval Engineers Corp. So, it was possible to afford a glimpse to a complex reality, in which gender relations and work relations present their own features, keeping, at the same time, standards of insertion and integration similar to those the non-military women engineers passed. The article begins indicating some aspects of the process of integration of women in the Brazilian Navy. Next, it is analyzed, from the point of view of the subjects, how they perceive their post, their image as women belonging to the body of official naval engineers, the work that they do as well as the gender relations in the military environment. The text finishes raising questions for future investigations.

A participação das mulheres no mercado de trabalho representa um dos pontos centrais da análise econômica sob a ótica feminista. Apesar do aumento da participação das mulheres no mercado de trabalho e da diminuição da diferença salarial média entre os dois gêneros, as mulheres ainda enfrentam uma grande dificuldade de serem remuneradas e promovidas em relação aos homens. Os modelos econômicos competitivos não conseguem explicar essas diferenças sem fazer uso de hipóteses fortes sobre as preferências individuais e os objetivos da família. Uma das possibilidades estudadas é que a diferença na remuneração das mulheres tem um aspecto social através de seu trabalho não somente para o mercado, mas também para a manutenção da ordem dentro da família. Este estudo tem como objetivo principal analisar as diferentes participações dos gêneros no trabalho doméstico como potencial influenciador das diferentes condições no mercado de trabalho. Nossos resultados apontam que as mulheres têm uma dupla e pesada jornada de trabalho. Entre nossas principais conclusões, podemos citar que a participação da mulher no mercado de trabalho, principalmente com o aumento de sua remuneração frente ao total da renda familiar, impacta positivamente sua condição de barganha na família, implicando uma menor participação no trabalho doméstico.

Female labor market participation is one of the central investigation topics in feminist economics' studies. Even after an increase in the labor market participation and the decrease in the wage gap between men and women, the latter still face great difficulties on being remunerated and promoted when compared to men. Neoclassical economic models cannot explain completely these differences without making use of strong hypothesis about individual preferences and family goals. This study has as the main objective to analyze difference on the housework participation as an influencer to different conditions in the labor market for men and women. Our results show that women still have a double work shift. Among our main conclusions, we can say that women benefit more from personal income increase than with labor market participation, because their bargain power within family increases and they can decrease their housework hours.

Este trabalho apresenta alguns resultados da pesquisa Dez anos de cotas no Brasil - avaliando a eficácia do caminho curto para o acesso das mulheres ao legislativo. Um dos itens da pesquisa consistiu na análise da relação entre as trajetórias individuais de deputadas e deputados, isto é, a forma e as razões de ingresso na política, o papel dos partidos políticos como mediadores dessas trajetórias, como esses aspectos se transformam em capitais políticos eleitorais, e como essas trajetórias se relacionam com as chances oferecidas pela inclusão das cotas. A Argentina é tomada como um contraponto positivo ao caso brasileiro, dado o fato de sua experiência ser considerada paradigmática. Entre os resultados apresentados, destacam-se as diferenças entre os tipos de trajetórias e de capital político que são estratégicos, em se tratando das mulheres de cada um dos países. E as novas formas de capital eleitoral que surgem conferem outros sentidos de ingresso na política. Isso parece decorrer, entre outros aspectos, de um segundo momento de institucionalização democrática nesses países.

This paper presents some results of the research Ten years of quotas in Brazil - evaluating the effectiveness of the short path to women's access to the legislative. One of the items of the research consisted in the analysis of the relationship between the trajectories of the individuals, the form and the reasons for participating in politics, the role of political parties as mediators of these paths, the way that these aspects are transformed into political capital, and how these trajectories relate to the chances offered by the inclusion of quotas as a specific law. Argentina is taken as a positive counterpoint to the Brazilian case, given the fact that their experience has been considered paradigmatic. Among the results presented, the differences between the types of trajectories and political capital that are strategic, concerning the women from each country, are highlighted; and new forms of capital arising as important to the election. This situation seems to emerge as a result of a second moment of the process of democracy institutionalization in both countries.

O presente estudo buscou analisar o papel dos grupos sociais e das interações entre eles no processo de construção do artefato tecnológico 'casa popular', com destaque para o papel desempenhado pelas mulheres. O acompanhamento de um projeto habitacional em desenvolvimento e as informações coletadas de várias fontes revelaram que não apenas o artefato foi moldado pelas relações sociais, mas também que o processo construtivo por meio do mutirão provocou mudanças significativas nas relações anteriormente estabelecidas entre os moradores. Nesse contexto, alguns papéis sociais desempenhados pelas mulheres mutirantes foram alterados substancialmente: elas ocuparam a liderança nas negociações; assumiram o trabalho 'pesado' e 'perigoso' na obra e; construíram - juntamente com as casas - sua nova 'identidade feminina'.

This article aimed at investigating the role of relevant social groups and their interaction in the shaping of a technological artefact, namely, a social housing project in which the future residents are themselves responsible for the construction work. In particular, it focuses on the role of the women in the group of future residents. The close observation of the development of the process together with information from documents and interviews revealed that not only the final artefact is shaped by the social groups but also that the interaction between and within such groups are considerably modified during the process. In particular, the social role of women was significantly changed: they steadly and firmly took ever the leading roles; they assumed all sorts of "heavy" and "dangerous" work and, they built, together with the houses, a new female identity.
