  • Revisão por pares na Revista Brasileira de Educação Especial Composição E Avaliação De Artigos Da Revista Brasileira De Educação Especial

    Omote, Sadao

The article discusses some issues relating to peer review in the evaluation of papers submitted to a scientific journal. Such evaluation is accepted as necessary to assure the scientific quality of published articles, since the integrity of specialized literature is considered essential for science development. However, there are criticisms toward peer review, including long elapsed time between papers' submission and their publication, the time and energy spent by authors and reviewers, the subjectivity in evaluation and other problems that can introduce bias in the area. The Brazilian Journal of Special Education adopts blind review and has been quick to perform evaluation procedure. The mean time elapsed between receipt of manuscripts, passing by peer revision, consequent adjustment by authors and final acceptance, is about five and half months. In the specialized literature, there are suggestions like the elimination of evaluation and the publication of all submitted texts in electronic means, which is less expensive and more versatile than print, allowing readers to make their own evaluation. The analysis performed concludes that peer review is necessary. It points out the need to promote discussions about its own evaluation process, in order to develop more efficient procedures of quality control of articles published. It suggests that the effective evaluation is made by the scientific community, after the publication, by means of collective recognition of scientific value of the publication, through the impact it may cause on new investigations and knowledge construction in the area.

The school inclusion of people with educational needs is dominant proposition in Special Education and Education in general, in the last decades, addressing programs and educational and rehabilitation politics in several countries, including Brazil. It demands the transformation of school, proposing the students' insertion with any needs in the regular school, letting to the schools the adaptation to the students' characteristics, what makes the rupture to the traditional model of teaching and is the problem starting. The institutions of Basic School have been having difficulties in the school inclusion, starting in the diagnosis of the learning disabilities, finishing in the little professional training to assist pedagogically and psychologically that population. Trying to contribute in this basic aspect of the inclusive process - the child's diagnosis with special educational needs -, the dynamic assessment is a complementary modality to the traditional evaluation of cognitive and linguistic abilities. This includes the examiner's help during the process, after an initial phase without help, being common in research works the procedure test-aided-retest, in that the subject works as his own control. This evaluation modality of the cognitive and linguistic processing favors the acting and it comes as more prescriptive to the curriculum adaptation. Especially used in the Special Education, this is still a little used evaluation proposal in Brazil, where there are research papers since the 90s last century.

Escobal, Giovana; Araújo, Eliane Aparecida Campanha; Goyos, Celso

Choice in mentally retarded participants was investigated under two work conditions with and without environmental support. It was also assessed how choosing a work condition interferes in the work performance. Three mentally retarded adults learned a work task with and without environmental support. The teaching was conducted with stimulus control techniques, shaping, fading, and verbal instructions. An environmental support developed solely for the purposes of the task displayed containers to place its different components, such as small pieces of paper, paper sheets cut in small notepad size, glue stick, and the final product. This environmental support was designed to provide immediate feedback, to increase or maintain the rate of work response and to prevent errors during the task routine. The experimental design consisted of five phases: teaching the task collectively, pre-training, individual training with and without the support, choice training, and follow-up. The results showed that when the environmental support was introduced, the time spent to finish the task decreased, and so did the average number of errors performing the task. The results also suggested that the environmental support yielded greater control over work and the opportunity to make choices engendered more motivation and work independence on the participants.

Theoretical currents present in the scientific literature have demonstrated the importance of interpersonal relationships in the process of knowledge construction. The relationship between the students' educational needs and the available pedagogical responses occurs in the context of teacher-student interaction. Such a relationship involves the teacher's mastery of knowledge, his technic-scientifical capability and ability to teach through research, the socio-cultural characteristics and psychological profiles of the social actors involved - teacher and student. With the goal of searching for a better understanding of this universe, this study was developed and aimed at describing the interactions occurring between a teacher and her students in classrooms in which it was proposed to adopt an inclusive classroom. The data were collected in 2 classrooms in a public primary school in the city of Bauru. The data collecting process was carried out by videotaping the classroom allowing the data to be reviewed later. The taping took place during the first semester of the 2001 school year. The analysis of the data was based on a previously developed system of categories, and the data were dealt quantitative and qualitatively. The results showed peculiarities and differences in the interactions of the teacher with her students, due to the presence or absence of disability. The interaction also demonstrated advances in educational practice regarding the teacher´s attention to the student with disability.

This article is about a research made with twenty two children with mild mental retardation in order to study the process of problem solution of these children in two different situations - one called real and the other called virtual. These individuals were divided into two testing groups: Testing Group I and Testing Group II. As a result, we have verified a predominance of the virtual situation (for both groups) and a predominance of the Testing Group II (Virtual - Real - Virtual). We understand that the predominance of the virtual situation and the Testing Group II can be explained by the fact that the virtual situation has a helping feature, which provides the children with mild mental retardation an immediate feedback concerning the selected strategies; it's a more gradual way of learning, which allows them to learn how to organize and connect information, and it's also a situation in which they can be less exposed to the fear of failing.

The importance of the language for the visual impairment children is unquestionable because it is a way to promote their social interaction. Besides, it is fundamental in the mediation of the learning process. In this context, the objective of this study was to compare the pragmatic performance of the language between blind children, with low vision capacity and children with normal vision and, therefore, to analyze the particularities of the maternal communication during the interaction within free and planned contexts. Six children participated in the study: two blind; two with low vision capacity and; two with normal vision, who were selected from specific criteria. Two recordings of each were carried out in the familiar environment: free and planned situations. The analysis was performed by means of functional characterization of the verbal and non-verbal communication of the children with their mothers. The data showed that the verbal communicative resources were predominant in both free and planned situations. Overall, the results of this study indicate that although there were particularities during its use, the language of the visual impairment children does not present deficit in relation to the one of those with normal vision. Moreover, the mothers of the blind children and with low vision capacity used strategies such as descriptions of the environment, indications and localization of objects during their interactions that favored their performance.
  • A organização e gestão do processo ensino-aprendizagem no 1º ciclo do ensino fundamental Relato De Pesquisa

The educational research has forgotten the study of teaching-learning processes in the classroom. However, classroom organization and management models have a major impact on the planning and implementation of academic tasks and on the quality and differentiation of the ways of learning. In fact, the results of our research showed that there is a dynamic interaction between specific ways of organizing and managing learning environments and the proceedings of planning, implementing and assessing academic tasks. Our study showed too that the choice of certain kinds of learning tasks by the teacher obeys to a progressive stepping stones scheme, and at different levels, toward aimed targets.

Petean, Eucia Beatriz Lopes; Suguihura, Ana Luisa Magaldi

The present study intended to know about the relation among older brothers/sisters of people with a diagnosis of Down Syndrome (DS), regarding to information and feelings they have about this diagnosis, and if changes have occurred within family dynamics and their own lives. Eleven people were interviewed, from both genders and older than age 10, being an older brother of a child with DS-diagnosis. A quantitative analysis was performed for the sample data, and a quantitative/interpretative and qualitative analysis was performed for data of the interviews. Data shows that most participants (90,9%) know the name of the syndrome and were informed by their mothers right after the birth of their brothers/sisters. Also, six participants consider having had a normal reaction to such news. Most of them (90,9%) have gotten responsible for daily activities; 27,2% considers there was an increase of responsibilities due to the birth of a brother/sister with DS. More than a half of the participants (54,54%) reported positive feelings about having a special brother, that is, they reported also feeling special. In the absence (death) of parents, half of the participants reported having decided to become legally responsible for this brother/sister. It may be concluded that the birth of a brother/sister with SD has consequences for the routine of older brothers/sisters, bringing them both responsibilities and life changes. However, this experience seems to have a less directed effect for psychological breakdown, as there were few manifestations of extreme feelings, having been regarded just to sadness-like ones, when expressed.
