Resumo Nesta entrevista sobre Michel Foucault, Roberto Machado aborda sua atualidade e seu impacto nas ciências humanas; os tipos de estudo que caracterizam diferentes momentos de sua trajetória intelectual; as singularidades de seu pensamento - o método provisório, a dimensão instrumental do conhecimento e a atenção à atualidade teórica e política -; bem como o vínculo entre suas análises histórico-filosóficas e suas ações políticas. Relata a vinda de Foucault ao Brasil durante a ditadura militar, o encontro com o pensador francês e sua obra, a experiência em seus cursos e seminários no Collège de France. Abstract In this interview on Michel Foucault, Roberto Machado discusses his contemporary relevance and his impact on the human sciences; the types of study composing the different periods of his intellectual trajectory; the singular aspects of his thought - the provisional method, the instrumental dimension of knowledge and the attention to the theoretical and political present; as well as the link between his historical-philosophical analyses and his political actions. He recalls Foucault's visit to Brazil during the military dictatorship, the encounter with the French thinker and his work, and the experience of his courses and seminars at the Collège de France. He also comments on learning about the political dimension of knowledge as a tool for struggle and resistance.

Resumo O artigo discute o diálogo, por vezes ácido, por vezes irônico, entre o pensamento de Michel Foucault e as tradições das ciências sociais e das humanidades. Como Foucault afirmou, o pensamento é feito para cortar. Por seu itinerário de investigação histórica, essa exigência introduziu perturbações em nossas convenções intelectuais, em nossos hábitos de pesquisa, em nosso arsenal metodológico posto à disposição para explicar realidades sociais. Trata-se, portanto, de um pensamento provocativo. Com esse fim, busca-se apresentar um pequeno inventário dessas perturbações, em torno de alguns eixos e hipóteses que permitam, ao final, uma reflexão sobre o estatuto da crítica no interior do pensamento do filósofo francês.

Abstract The article discusses the sometimes acerbic, sometimes ironic, dialogue between the thought of Michel Foucault and the traditions of the social sciences and the humanities. As Foucault affirmed, thought is made to be cutting. Pursuing his itinerary of historical investigation, this requirement ended up disrupting our intellectual conventions, our research habits and our methodological toolbox filled with ready-made explanations of social realities. Hence his thought is provocative in kind. The aim here is to present a small inventory of these disruptions, pursuing various lines of inquiry and hypotheses that allow us to conclude with a reflection on the status of critique in the French philosopher's thought.

Resumo O artigo propõe uma comparação entre as abordagens de Michel Foucault e de Pierre Bourdieu sobre o neoliberalismo. Em vez de considerar suas teorizações como totalmente antitéticas entre si, seja no plano teórico, seja no plano político, prefere-se aqui confrontar os dois autores a partir dos seguintes eixos analíticos: momentos de produção, estilos de teorização, estratégias críticas e referências intelectuais fundamentais. Ao final, serão propostas algumas interseções e caminhos para possíveis articulações entre as duas abordagens, bem como uma reflexão sobre o lugar do intelectual na filosofia e nas ciências sociais contemporâneas.

Abstract The article sets out to compare the approaches of Michel Foucault and Pierre Bourdieu to neoliberalism. Rather than take their theorizations to be mutually antithetical, whether at a theoretical or a political level, here the aim is to compare and contrast the two authors through the following lines of analysis: moments of production, styles of theorization, critical strategies and fundamental intellectual reference points. The conclusion proposes a number of intersections and paths towards potential articulations between the two approaches, as well as a reflection on the place of the intellectual in the contemporary social sciences and philosophy.

Resumo Este artigo discute o conceito de inscrição por meio de uma aproximação de pesquisas desenvolvidas no Centro Integrado de Comando e Controle e na Secretaria Especial de Ordem Pública, órgãos da administração municipal e estadual, respectivamente, da cidade e do estado do Rio de Janeiro. Indicamos como subjaz à construção desse conceito nas abordagens utilizadas nessas pesquisas uma convergência teórica e metodológica com as concepções de poder em Michel Foucault e com aquelas existentes na teoria do ator-rede.

Abstract This article discusses the concept of inscription through an examination of studies developed at the Integrated Command and Control Centre and at the Special Secretariat of Public Order - municipal and state public authorities, respectively, of the city and state of Rio de Janeiro. The text shows how the construction of this concept in these studies is informed by an underlying theoretical and methodological convergence between the conceptions of power in Michel Foucault and those posited by actor-network theory.

Resumo O artigo parte da definição de Giorgio Agamben da moda como metáfora do contemporâneo. Propõe-se estudar a questão do privado e do público a partir do discurso de best-seller na produção editorial brasileira entre o final do século XX e o começo do XXI. Tal produção é abordada pelo polo negativo em que a metáfora da moda se apresenta, que leva o sujeito a se deixar seduzir pelas luzes do presente, a fim de que se concretize seu desejo individual e intransferível de enriquecimento e de fama. Sucedem-se cronologicamente estética pop, mensagem de autoajuda e favorecimento nacional do consumo. Este último implica uma leitura que é como um prêt-à-porter acessível às classes populares, que faz com que o Estado-nação não precise arcar com uma política pública de alto nível de educação popular igualitária e democrática.

Abstract The article sets out from Giorgio Agamben's definition of fashion as a metaphor of the contemporary. It examines the question of the private and the public through the 'best-seller' discourse prevalent in Brazilian publishing between the end of the twentieth century and the start of the twenty-first. This production is explored through the negative sense attributed to the metaphor of fashion, which leads subjects to be seduced by the dazzle of the present, convinced that they can realize their individual and non-transferable desire for self-enrichment and fame. In succession we can observe a pop aesthetics, messages of self-help and a nationwide inducement of consumption. The latter involves a reading that functions like a prêt-à-porter accessible to the popular classes, effectively permitting the nation state to eschew any responsibility for developing a high-level public policy for egalitarian and democratic popular education.

Resumo O presente texto tem por objetivo explorar o uso feito pelo escritor Lima Barreto das cores, entendidas como cores sociais, no conjunto de sua obra. O autor não só introduz matizes de cor com grande regularidade, como explora tonalidades diferentes e as vincula a situações sociais e a leituras próprias do contexto do pós-abolição em que viveu. Como sabemos, no Brasil, cores comportam-se como marcadores sociais de diferença, acondicionando elementos socioeconômicos, regionais, de gênero, mas também interpretativos, pois carregam categorias acusatórias e estéticas - sempre diacríticas. Na mesma medida em que traduzem hierarquias sociais, tais cores sociais repõem ambivalências próprias ao contexto e à sua manipulação por indivíduos que se autoclassificam, em especial as ambivalências acionadas pelo próprio criador de personagens como Clara dos Anjos e Policarpo Quaresma.

Abstract The present text examines the use of colours, in the sense of social colours, in the work of the writer Lima Barreto. Not only does the author introduce hues of colour with considerable frequency, he also explores different tonalities and connects them to social situations and his own readings of the post-abolition context in which he lived. As we know, in Brazil colours function as social markers of difference, encompassing socioeconomic, regional and gender factors, but also interpretative elements, since they also contain accusatory and aesthetic categories - always diacritical. At the same time as they translate social hierarchies, so these social colours also reinvest their own ambivalences in social contexts and in their manipulation by self-classifying individuals, especially the ambivalences mobilized by Lima Barreto himself, the creator of characters like Clara dos Anjos and Policarpo Quaresma.

Resumo Este artigo apresenta as tendências históricas da mobilidade intergeracional de renda no Brasil entre as décadas de 1990 e 2000 a partir da análise de duas coortes de idade. Os resultados indicam um aumento significativo da mobilidade social. Um segundo objetivo é comparar as perspectivas da economia e da sociologia sobre mobilidade intergeracional, utilizando para tanto as tendências das mobilidades de renda e de status ocupacional. Enquanto a primeira aumentou bastante, a segunda aumentou de forma bem mais modesta. Finalmente, analisa a relação entre mobilidade intergeracional de educação e os dois outros tipos de mobilidade. Ao decompor as mobilidades de renda e de ocupação em fatores que ligam diretamente pais a filhos (herança pura) e fatores mediados pela educação (herança mediada), revelam-se resultados significativamente diferentes para renda e para ocupação.

Abstract This article presents the historical trends in intergenerational income mobility in Brazil between the 1990s and 2000s, based on an analysis of two age cohorts. The findings indicate a significant increase in social mobility. A second objective is to compare economic and sociological approaches to intergenerational mobility, utilizing trends in income mobility and occupational status mobility for this purpose. While the former rose substantially, the latter increased much more modestly. Finally, the article analyses the relation between intergenerational mobility in education and the other two types of mobility. Breaking down income and occupational mobilities into those factors that directly link parents to children (pure inheritance) and other factors mediated by education (mediated inheritance) reveals significantly different results for income and occupation.

Resumo A geração de mulheres que conheceu a introdução da esterilização feminina como prática corrente no Brasil é o assunto deste artigo. Em entrevistas sobre trajetórias contraceptivas, 15 mulheres de distintos perfis sociais relatam seus percursos reprodutivos até a realização da cirurgia. As entrevistadas submeteram-se voluntariamente à esterilização entre os anos 1970 e 1980. Os relatos foram colhidos entre em 2011 e 2012 na cidade do Rio de Janeiro e compõem o material aqui chamado de "memória da esterilização". A partir das narrativas, dois temas se destacam: a dimensão relacional que marca a decisão pela esterilização e a produção das memórias das mulheres sobre a reprodução e a contracepção.

Abstract The topic of this article is the generation of women who experienced the introduction of female sterilization as a current practice in Brazil. In interviews on their use of contraceptives, fifteen women from different social backgrounds spoke about their reproductive histories prior to performing the surgery. The interviewees all voluntarily submitted to sterilization between the 1970s and 1980s. The accounts were collected in 2011 and 2012 in the city of Rio de Janeiro and form the material referred to here as 'memories of sterilization.' Two themes emerge from the narratives: the relational dimension influencing the women's decision to undergo sterilization, and the production of the memories of the women concerning reproduction and contraception.

Resumo O artigo discute a economia da reciclagem na região metropolitana do Rio de Janeiro, enfocando o trabalho dos catadores, com o objetivo de refletir etnograficamente sobre um circuito comercial ao longo do qual os "resíduos" são transformados em "material reciclável". Do circuito, a análise aborda o segmento compreendido entre o aterro de resíduos e a associação de catadores local, e descreve as formas de organização do trabalho nesses espaços. Com foco nos objetos e nas práticas nas quais eles são agenciados, o artigo evidencia a catação como processos de recriação de valor das materialidades descartadas. A atividade de "bater o material" revela a existência de um conhecimento sensível, um sistema classificatório acurado e um conjunto de técnicas dos catadores a respeito das matérias plásticas. Desdobrando a análise, o artigo apresenta casos de objetos cujas trajetórias desviadas iluminam a indeterminação dos resíduos em termos de valor.

Abstract The article discusses the economy of recycling in the Rio de Janeiro metropolitan region, specifically the work of waste collectors, and develops an ethnographic reflection on a commercial circuit in which 'waste' is transformed into 'recyclable material.' It focuses specifically on the section of the circuit located between the waste dump and the local collectors associations, describing the types of labour organization found in these spaces. Focusing on the objects and the practices in which they are mobilized, the article shows how waste collection involves processes of recreating value from discarded physical objects. The activity of 'beating the material' reveals the existence of a sensory knowledge, a detailed classificatory system and a set of techniques utilized by the collectors in relation to plastic materials. Developing the analysis further, the article presents cases of objects whose diverted trajectories shed light on the indeterminacy of waste in terms of value.

Resumo O exame feito por Max Horkheimer dos pressupostos que aproximaram a teoria lukácsiana da consciência de classe a alguns aspectos do idealismo alemão deu ensejo às formulações da teoria crítica a respeito do funcionamento da sociedade capitalista e da maneira como se deveria abordá- la. Ao contrário dos textos de Lukács, que terminam por se afastar de um exame das transformações históricas do início do século XX e da real situação das classes trabalhadoras, a teoria crítica coloca no centro das análises os fatores individuais e concretos que levavam as classes trabalhadoras a aceitar a dominação capitalista. Para isso, foi fundamental a releitura de A ideologia alemã, de Marx e Engels. Essa recuperação do texto marxiano permite entender a fecundidade das análises da teoria crítica, contrariando as teses que identificam a primeira fase da teoria crítica com uma filosofia da história.

Abstract Max Horkheimer's inquiry into the premises that connect the Lukácsian theory of class consciousness to various aspects of German idealism resulted in critical theory's formulations concerning how capitalist society operates and the way in which it should be examined. In contrast to the texts of Lukács, which ended up turning away from an examination of the historical transformations of the start of the twentieth century and the real situation of working classes, critical theory places at the centre of analysis the individual and concrete factors that led the working classes to accept capitalism domination. To this end, it was essential to reread The German ideology by Marx and Engels. This recuperation of the Marxian text allows us to grasp the fertility of critical theory's analyses, contradicting theses that identify the first phase of critical theory as a philosophy of history.

Resumo Nesta entrevista o antropólogo cubano Pablo Rodríguez Ruiz discute diferentes dimensões da questão racial no contexto cubano: a raça como construção social; as representações sociais existentes acerca dessa noção; a vigência histórica de uma ideologia do racismo em Cuba - que tem como uma das suas expressões o que denomina "racismo do porém". Abordam-se também as formas pretéritas e atuais do preconceito, da discriminação e das desigualdades raciais na sociedade cubana; e as conquistas, fragilidades e desafios das políticas públicas direcionadas à questão racial.

Abstract In this interview, the Cuban anthropologist Pablo Rodríguez Ruiz discusses various dimensions of the racial question in the Cuban context: race as a social construct; the social representations surrounding this notion; and the historical existence of an ideology of racism in Cuba - one of the expressions of which is what he labels 'racism of the however.' The interview also explores past and current forms of prejudice, discrimination and racial inequalities in Cuban society; and the conquests, fragilities and challenges of public policies aimed at resolving racial issues.
