Abstract The objective was to evaluate gas exchange and the leaf area requirement for yield in Cavendish and Gros Michel bananas. The cultivars Grande Naine, Calipso, Bucaneiro, FHIA-17 and FHIA-23, and two production cycles, were arranged in a completely randomized experimental design, in a factorial scheme, with five replicates. For the physiological characteristics, a 5x9x2 factorial arrangement was considered, with cultivars, evaluation periods and reading times. Cultivars Bucaneiro and Calipso require larger leaf area per unit produced and FHIA-23, smaller, which suggests a greater photosynthetic efficiency per leaf unit for FHIA-23, confirmed by the higher masses of bunches and hands and greater numbers of hands and fruits. Gas exchange varies with cultivars, evaluation periods and reading times. Cultivars FHIA-17 and Calipso, Gros Michel type, respectively showed higher photosynthesis and transpiration rates than Grande Naine, Cavendish type. Net photosynthesis, stomatal conductance, quantum efficiency of photosynthesis, instantaneous water use efficiency and carboxylation efficiency are higher at 8:00 h than at 14:00 h. The month of June allowed the cultivars to express the highest values of photosynthesis rates, incident radiation on leaves, carboxylation efficiency and stomatal conductance.

Resumo Objetivou-se avaliar trocas gasosas e requerimento em área foliar para rendimento de bananeiras Cavendish e Gros Michel. As cultivares, Grande Naine, Calipso, Bucaneiro, FHIA-17 e FHIA-23, e dois ciclos de produção foram dispostos em delineamento experimental inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial, com cinco repetições. Para características fisiológicas, considerou-se arranjo fatorial 5 x 9 x 2, com cinco cultivares, nove períodos de avaliação e dois horários de leituras. As cultivares Bucaneiro e Calipso requerem maior área foliar por unidade produzida, e a FHIA-23, menor, o que sugere maior eficiência fotossintética por unidade de folha para esta, comprovada pelas maiores massas de cachos e de pencas, e maiores quantidades de pencas e frutos. As trocas gasosas variam com as cultivares, épocas de avaliação e horários de leitura. As cultivares FHIA-17 e Calipso, tipo Gros Michel, expressaram, respectivamente, maiores taxa de fotossíntese e de transpiração, que a Grande Naine, tipo Cavendish. A fotossíntese líquida, condutância estomática, e as eficiências quântica da fotossíntese, instantânea de uso da água e de carboxilação são maiores às 8 horas comparada às 14 horas. O mês de junho possibilitou às cultivares expressarem os maiores valores de taxas de fotossíntese, radiação incidente nas folhas, eficiência de carboxilação e condutância estomática.

Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a resposta fotossintética ao deficit de pressão de vapor (DPV) em acessos de umbuzeiro (Spondias tuberosa). O experimento foi conduzido em delineamento experimental inteiramente casualizado, em arranjo fatorial 5×7×2 (cinco acessos de umbuzeiro – BRS-68, EPAMIG-05, BGU-61, BGU-75 e BGU-50 –, sete épocas de avaliação e dois momentos de leitura – às 8h e às 14h), em parcelas subsubdivididas no tempo. A temperatura foliar aumentou com a temperatura do ar. A variação da condutância estomática e da transpiração com o DPV não foi significativa. A fotossíntese líquida, a eficiência de carboxilação e a eficiência instantânea do uso da água decresceram com o aumento do DPV em todos os acessos, exceto no BRS-68, cujas taxas se mantiveram positivas.

Abstract The objective of this work was to evaluate the photosynthetic response to vapor pressure deficit (VPD) in umbu (Spondias tuberosa) tree accessions. The experiment was carried out in a completely randomized design in a 5×7×2 factorial arrangement (five umbu accessions – BRS-68, EPAMIG-05, BGU-61, BGU-75, and BGU-50 –, seven evaluation times, and two reading times – at 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.) in split-split plots in time. Leaf temperature increased with air temperature. The variation of stomatal conductance and transpiration with the VPD was not significant. Net photosynthesis rate, carboxylation efficiency, and instantaneous water-use efficiency decreased with increasing VPD in all accessions, except in BRS-68, whose rates remained positive.

RESUMO O umbuzeiro e umbu-cajazeira demandam informações sobre as características de acessos potenciais para implantação comercial e preservação. Assim, objetivou-se avaliar o teor foliar e ciclagem dos nutrientes de 15 acessos de umbuzeiro e um de umbucajazeira. Os tratamentos constaram de 16 acessos: BGU -44, BGU-45, BGU-47, BGU-48, BGU-50, BGU-75, EPAMIG-01, EPAMIG-03, EPAMIG-04, EPAMIG-05, EPAMIG-06, EPAMIG-07, EPAMIG-09, EPAMIG-13, umbuzeiro de origem desconhecida e umbu-cajazeira Princesa. Adotou-se o delineamento experimental inteiramente casualizado, com três repetições, constituídas de uma planta cada. Foram mensurados os teores de nutrientes nas folhas, nas fases de emissão de fluxo foliar e senescência das folhas, nas safras de 2015/2016 e 2016/2017, e determinou-se a taxa de retranslocação de N, P, K e Mg. Verificou-se que os acessos denotaram teores médios de nutrientes na folha de 28,6; 27,6; 9,5; 4,20; 2,5 e 2,0 g kg-1 com ordem decrescente N>Ca>K>Mg>S>P, respectivamente, e 103,61; 86,22; 82,12; 60,2; 16,0 e 3,52 mg kg-1 de Fe>B>Na>Mn>Zn>Cu, respectivamente. O acesso BGU-48 revelou maior eficiência de retranslocação de N e P nas folhas e o BGU-50 expressou eficiência de reciclagem para K e Mg. A ordem das taxas de retranslocação é K>P>N>Mg sendo maior na safra 2015/2016.

ABSTRACT Information is needed on the characteristics of potential accessions of Spondias tuberosa Arruda Câmara (umbu) and Spondias sp.(umbu-caja) for commercial planting and preservation. Thus, the objective was to evaluate the leaf contents and cycling of nutrients of 15 accessions of umbu and one of umbu -caja. The treatments consisted of 16 accessions: BGU-44, BGU-45, BGU-47, BGU-48, BGU-50, BGU-75, EPAMIG-01, EPAMIG-03, EPAMIG-04, EPAMIG-05, EPAMIG-06, EPAMIG-07, EPAMIG-09, EPAMIG-13, umbu of unknown origin and the umbu-caja Princesa. A completely randomized experimental design was adopted, with three replicates, consisting of one plant each. Nutrient contents in the leaves were measured in the leaf flushing and leaf senescence phases in the 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 seasons, and the N, P, K and Mg retranslocation rates were determined. The accessions showed average leaf nutrient contents of 28.6, 27.6, 9.5, 4.20, 2.5 and 2.0 g kg-1 with the descending order N>Ca>K>Mg>S>P, respectively, and 103.61, 86.22, 82.12, 60.2, 16.0 and 3.52 mg kg-1 of Fe>B>Na>Mn>Zn>Cu, respectively. The accession BGU-48 had higher N and P retranslocation efficiency in the leaves and BGU-50 showed recycling efficiency for K and Mg. The order of retranslocation rates is K>P>N>Mg, being higher in the 2015/2016 season.

Resumo São escassos estudos que determinem as características fisiológicas do abacaxizeiro, em condições de campo, irrigadas com água de qualidade inferior. Assim, objetivou-se avaliar eficiência fotoquímica em abacaxizeiro ‘Pérola’ irrigado com água salina no semiárido baiano. O experimento foi conduzido em blocos casualizados com cinco tratamentos representados pelas lâminas de irrigação: 100% da ETc com água de condutividade elétrica (CEa) de 0,75 dS m-1 e 50, 75, 100 e 125% da ETc com aplicação de água de CEa de 3,6 dS m-1. As leituras da fluorescência da clorofila “a” foram realizadas durante 13 meses através de fluorômetro de luz modulada, em todos os tratamentos. Verificou-se que a eficiência quântica (Fv/Fm) variou ao longo do ciclo do abacaxizeiro com valores abaixo do ideal, principalmente, no final do ciclo. As variáveis rendimento quântico do fotossistema II (Yield), dissipação fotoquímica (qP), dissipação não-fotoquímica (NPQ) e taxa de redução de fluorescência (RFd) não foram influenciadas pelas lâminas de irrigação avaliadas. Portanto, a utilização da energia nos processos fotossintéticos de plantas de abacaxizeiro não são influenciados pela irrigação com lâminas de água salina com condutividade elétrica de 3,6 dS m-1.

Abstract Studies determining physiological characteristics of field-grown pineapples irrigated with low-quality water are lacking. This work evaluated the photochemical efficiency of ‘Pérola’ pineapple irrigated with saline water in the semiarid region of Bahia, Brazil. The experiment was carried out in randomized blocks with five treatments consisting of the following irrigation depths: 100% of ETc using water with electrical conductivity (ECw) of 0.75 dS m-1; and 50, 75, 100 and 125% of ETc using water with ECw of 3.6 dS m-1. Chlorophyll a fluorescence measurements were made over the course of 13 months using a pulse-modulated fluorometer, in all treatments. Quantum efficiency (Fv/Fm) fluctuated throughout the cycle of the pineapple with values below the ideal, especially at the end of the crop cycle. Quantum yield of photosystem II (Yield), photochemical quenching (qP), non-photochemical quenching (NPQ) and chlorophyll fluorescence decrease ratio (RFd) were not influenced by irrigation depths. Therefore, energy used for photosynthetic processes in pineapple plants is not affected by irrigation using saline water with electrical conductivity of 3.6 dS m-1.

ABSTRACT. This study aimed to evaluate the productive characteristics, gas exchange and water use efficiency of the banana 'Prata-Anã' clone Gorutuba under different irrigation intervals associated with different emitter heights. Therefore, a field experiment was conducted in a 2 x 4 factorial scheme: two irrigation intervals (daily and every two days) and four emitter heights (50, 70, 90, and 110 cm) in a completely randomized design with four replicates. The irrigation depths applied by the microsprinkler irrigation system were calculated as a function of crop evapotranspiration. The gas exchanges were evaluated during the period of greatest climatic stress, and the productive characteristics were evaluated at harvest. The economic water use efficiency was determined indirectly by considering the production divided by the applied irrigation depth, which was the same in all the treatments. The instantaneous water use efficiency was estimated with an infrared gas analyzer in the critical climatic period. There was no interaction between the irrigation intervals and emitter heights. The two-day irrigation interval resulted in lower values of leaf temperature and photosynthetically active radiation incident on the leaves, resulting in a higher fruit weight and, consequently, higher yields and a higher water use efficiency. The highest fruit weights were obtained at heights of 70 and 90 cm.

Resumo Objetivou-se com este trabalho avaliar a produtividade, a classificação de frutos e a eficiência de uso da água da bananeira ‘Prata-Anã’ submetida a densidades de plantio, lâminas de irrigação e poda de pencas. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi em blocos casualizados, com três lâminas de irrigação (LI); 50, 75 e 100% da evapotranspiração da cultuta (ETc), aplicadas por microaspersão; quatro densidades de plantio (DP); 1.666, 2.083, 2.666 e 3.333 plantas ha-1; e duas formas de poda de pencas (PP); uma e duas pencas; em esquema de parcelas subsubdivididas, com LI nas parcelas; DP nas subparcelas, e PP nas subsubparcelas; com quatro repetições, no primeiro ciclo de produção. A poda de duas pencas aumenta o número de folhas, a área foliar, o índice de área foliar, a massa e o diâmetro dos frutos, a massa total e a massa média das pencas na bananeira ‘Prata-Anã’. A densidade de 3.333 plantas ha-1 e a lâmina de irrigação de 75% da ETc proporcionam os melhores resultados para o desenvolvimento da planta, com aumento de produtividade, manutenção da classificação comercial e economia de água, independentemente da poda de pencas.

Abstract The objective of this study was to assess the effect of planting densities, irrigation levels and bunch trimming on yield, fruit grading and water-use efficiency (WUE) of ‘Prata-Anã’ banana plants. The following factors were combined in a randomized block design: three irrigation levels (IL), 50, 75 and 100% crop evapotranspiration (ETc); four planting densities (PD)- 1,666; 2,083; 2,666 and 3,333 plants ha-1; and two bunch trimming treatments (BT), removal of either one or two hands from the bunch. The treatments were arranged in a split-split plot design. Irrigation level was assigned to main plots, PD to subplots and BT to sub-subplots, with four replicates. Measurements were made in the first production cycle. Removing two hands increased number of leaves, leaf area, leaf area index, fruit weight, fruit diameter, total hand weight and mean hand weight of ‘Prata-Anã’ banana plants. A plant density population of 3,333 plants ha-1 combined with an irrigation level at 75% ETc improves plant development and yield while maintaining fruit size and saving water, regardless of removal of one or two hands from the bunch.

RESUMO A restrição do vigor vegetativo de mudas pode ser uma estratégia para otimização da modulação frente à estresses bióticos e abióticos após o transplantio. O objetivo desse estudo foi verificar se os parâmetros morfológicos de mudas de maracujazeiro amarelo (Passiflora edulis) são afetados pela restrição do crescimento com aplicação de inibidor da biossíntese de giberelina. O ensaio foi realizado em casa de vegetação a partir de mudas cultivadas em tubetes de polietileno com capacidade de 290 cm3. Aos 40 dias após a emergência, as bandejas com as respectivas mudas foram imersas em soluções de paclobutrazol (PBZ) com concentrações de 0, 40, 80, 120 e 160 mg L-1 de ingrediente ativo, até a saturação do substrato. Foi utilizado o delineamento experimental em blocos casualizados, com cinco tratamentos (concentrações de PBZ) e quatro repetições. Aos 15, 30 e 45 dias após a aplicação do PBZ (DAA), foi mensurado o diâmetro basal; aos 45 dias foram avaliados o diâmetro do caule, área foliar individual, área foliar específica, diâmetro e volume das raízes, conteúdo de lignina parte aérea e a anatomia da folha, caule e raiz. As alterações anatômicas induzidas pela restrição de crescimento por triazol condicionaram modificações na estrutura morfológica e estimulou a biossíntese de compostos secundários em mudas de maracujazeiro amarelo.

ABSTRACT Inhibiting seedling vegetative growth may be a strategy for improving modulation against biotic and abiotic stresses after transplanting. The objective of this study was to evaluate morphological responses of yellow passion fruit (Passiflora edulis) seedlings to growth inhibition resulted from the application of an inhibitor of gibberellin biosynthesis. The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse using seedlings grown in 290 cm3 polyethylene tubes. At 40 days after emergence, trays containing the seedlings were immersed in solutions at concentrations of 0, 40, 80, 120 and 160 mg (Paclobutrazol) PBZ L-1 up to substrate saturation. These five treatments were laid out in a randomized block design with four replicates. At 15, 30 and 45 days after PBZ application (DAA), basal stem diameter was measured; at 45 DAA, stem diameter, individual leaf area, specific leaf area, root diameter and root volume were measured, lignin content and the anatomy of leaves, stems, and roots were analyzed. Triazole-induced anatomical alterations in stems, leaves and roots cause morphological traits and intensify the specific reagent staining of phenolic compounds and lignin in yellow passion fruit (Passiflora edulis) seedlings.

Resumo O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar as trocas gasosas e a produção de bananeiras tipo Maçã, em diferentes épocas do ano e horários, em ambiente semiárido. Foram utilizados sete genótipos: Maçã, Caipira, BRS Tropical, BRS Princesa, YB42-03, YB42-17 e YB42-47, dispostos em delineamento experimental inteiramente casualizado, com cinco repetições e com quatro plantas úteis por parcela. Para as características fisiológicas, foi considerado um arranjo em esquema fatorial 7x7x2 (sete genótipos, sete épocas de avaliação, duas leituras diárias: às 8 e 14 horas). As taxas fotossintéticas, a eficiência de carboxilação e a eficiência instantânea do uso da água são maiores às 8 horas, devido às condições meteorológicas, enquanto a temperatura foliar e a transpiração são mais altas às 14 horas, decorrentes da elevação da temperatura do ar e da baixa umidade. Meses com maior radiação e temperatura intermediária proporcionaram maiores taxas de fotossíntese, maior eficiência de carboxilação e fotoquímica da fotossíntese. De forma geral, o genótipo YB42-47 foi o mais produtivo com maior eficiência de uso da água e taxas de fotossíntese.

Abstract The objective of this study was to evaluate gas exchange and production of Maçã bananas type, at different times of the year and the day in semi-arid environment. Seven genotypes genotypes were used: Maçã, Caipira, BRS Tropical, BRS Princesa, YB42-03, YB42-17 and YB42-47, arranged in a completely randomized experimental design with five replicates and four useful plants per plot. For the physiological characteristics, a factorial arrangement 7x7x2 was considered (seven genotypes, seven evaluation periods, two reading times, 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.). Photosynthetic rates, carboxylation efficiency, and instantaneous water use efficiency are higher at 8:00 a.m., due to meteorological conditions, while foliar temperature and transpiration are higher at 2:00 p.m., due to the elevation of air temperature and low humidity. Months with higher radiation and intermediate temperature provided higher rates of photosynthesis, higher efficiency of carboxylation and photochemistry of photosynthesis. In general, genotype YB42-47 was the most productive, with higher water use efficiency and photosynthesis rates.

Resumen El objetivo del estudio fue evaluar las características fisiológicas del banano 'Princesa' bajo riego lateralmente alternado (RLA). El diseño experimental fue de bloques al azar, con cinco tratamientos y cinco repeticiones: 1 - reducción del 50% en la lámina de riego (LR) con el lado de frecuencia de la conmutación de la planta (FC) 7 días durante todo el ciclo de producción; 2 - 50% de LR y 14 días de FC en el ciclo; 3 - 50% de LR y FC 21 días; 4 - 50% con un LR de riego fijo (sólo una de las alas en un lado de la planta) y 5 - riego completo (dos líneas laterales con registros abiertos) durante el ciclo. La conductancia estomática - gs fue menor en las plantas regadas con 50% de ETc en sistema de riego fijo. Incluso con déficit de agua en el suelo, con el RLA con 50% de ETc, Fotosíntesis -A, Transpiración - E; Temperatura de la hoja - Tl, la concentración interna de CO2 - Ci; conductancia estomática - gs; Radiación fotosintéticamente activa - Qleaf; eficiencia de carboxilación - A/Ci; La eficiencia cuántica de la fotosíntesis - A/Qleaf; y la eficiencia instantánea del uso del agua -A/E en el banano 'Princesa' no difiere entre los tratamientos, lo que pone de relieve la importancia de la técnica de gestión de riego, con el ahorro de agua y sin cambios fisiológicos de las plantas.

Abstract This research aimed to evaluate physiological characteristics of 'BRS Princesa' banana under partial rootzone drying irrigation, PRD. The five treatments, 1 - 50% of reduction in water depth (WD) with a frequency alternation of irrigation side (FA) of seven days during the whole production cycle; 2 - 50% of WD and FA of 14 days in the cycle; 3 - 50% of WD and FA of 21 days; 4 - 50% of WD with a fixed irrigation (only one lateral line on one side of the plant); and 5 - full irrigation (two lateral lines with open shutoff valve) throughout the cycle, they were arranged in a randomized block design with five replicates. There is a reduction in photosynthetic rates and water use efficiency as a result of enzymatic impairment or stomatal closure, due to the increased of leaf temperature. The stomatal conductance - gs was lower in plants irrigated with 50% of ETc with fixed irrigation in one side of the plant. Even with water deficit in the soil, using the PRD with 50% of ETc, Photosynthesis - A Transpiration - E; Leaf temperature - Tleaf, internal concentration of CO2 - Ci; stomatal conductance - gs; photosynthetically active radiation - Qleaf; carboxylation efficiency - A/Ci; Quantum efficiency of Photosynthesis - A/Qleaf; and instantaneous water use efficiency - WUE 'BRS Princesa' banana were similar among strategies, highlighting the possibility of use of the irrigation management technique with PRD, saving water, and no physiological changes in the plants.

RESUMO O ensaio foi conduzido na área experimental do Instituto Federal Baiano, Câmpus Guanambi- BA. Objetivou-se avaliar características agronômicas de cultivares de bananeira com frutos tipo Prata, Cavendish, Gros Michel e Maçã, em três ciclos de produção. Os 72 tratamentos, 24 cultivares e três ciclos de produção foram dispostos em esquema de parcela subdividida no tempo, em um delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com cinco repetições e quatro plantas úteis por parcela. As 24 cultivares, Prata-Anã, Maravilha, FHIA-18, BRS FHIA-18, BRS Platina, JV42-135, Pacovan, Japira, PV79-34, Pacovan-Ken, Preciosa, Garantida, Maçã, Caipira, BRS Tropical, BRS Princesa, YB42-03, YB42-07, YB42-47, Grande-Naine, Calipso, Bucaneiro, FHIA-23 e FHIA-17 constituíram as parcelas; e os três ciclos de produção as subparcelas. Os dados mensurados foram submetidos à análise de variância. As médias das cultivares foram agrupadas pelo critério de Scott-Knott (p<0,05) e dos ciclos de produção comparadas pelo teste de Tukey (p<0,05). As ‘JV42-235’, ‘Japira’ e ‘Pacovan-Ken’ apresentam maior porte, e ‘Grande Naine’, menor. A ‘Prata-Anã’ tem maior número de folhas na colheita, com índice de área foliar similar às demais. A ‘BRS Platina’ é mais precoce para florescimento e colheita. ‘Maravilha’, ‘BRS Platina’, ‘FHIA-23’, ‘BRS Tropical’ e ‘BRS Princesa’ apresentam maior potencial de utilização pelo agricultor.

ABSTRACT This assay was conducted in the experimental area of the Federal Institute of Bahia, Campus Guanambi, BA, and aimed to evaluate agronomic traits of Prata, Cavendish, Gros Michel and Maçã banana cultivars three production cycles. The 72 treatments, 24 cultivars and three production cycles were arranged in a split plot scheme in time, in a completely randomized design with five replications and four plants per plot. Plots were arranged in 24 cultivars, Prata-Anã, Maravilha, FHIA-18, FHIA-18 BRS, BRS Platina, JV42-135, Pacovan, Japira, PV79-34, Pacovan-Ken, Preciosa, Guarantida, Maçã, Caipira, BRS Tropical, BRS Princesa, YB42-03, YB42-07, YB42-47, Grande-Naine, Calypso, Buccaneiro, FHIA-23 and FHIA-17; and subplots consisted of three production cycles. Data obtained were submitted to analysis of variance. The average of the cultivars were grouped by Scott-Knott criterion (p<0.05) and production cycles compared by Tukey test (p<0.05). ‘JV42-235’, ‘Japira’ and ‘Pacovan-Ken’ cultivars had larger size and ‘Grande Naine’ had smaller size. ‘Prata-Anã’ cultivar had higher number of leaves at harvest, with leaf area index similar to the others. ‘BRS Platina’ cultivar is earlier at flowering and harvest. ‘Maravilha’, ‘BRS Platina’, ‘FHIA-23’, ‘BRS Tropical and BRS Princesa’ cultivars presented greater potential for use by farmers.

RESUMO Objetivou-se com o presente trabalho avaliar as trocas gasosas de bananeiras tipo Prata, em dois ciclos de produção em ambiente semiárido. Utilizaram-se seis cultivares como tratamentos dispostos em um delineamento experimental inteiramente casualizado, com cinco repetições e quatro plantas úteis por parcela. Para as características fisiológicas, considerou-se um arranjo em esquema fatorial 6x14x2, seis cultivares, 14 épocas de avaliação (meses) e dois horários de leitura (8h e 14h), em cada época. As taxas de trocas gasosas, a eficiência de carboxilação e a eficiência instantânea do uso da água foram maiores às 8h e menores às 14h, com raras exceções. A ‘BRS Platina’ apresentou maior temperatura foliar, maior transpiração e menor eficiência de uso da água. ‘Prata-Anã’, ‘FHIA-18’ e ‘Maravilha’ expressaram menor temperatura foliar e menor transpiração. A ’Maravilha’ é mais eficiente no uso da água. A transpiração aumenta de maneira linear com o aumento da temperatura foliar, enquanto a eficiência instantânea do uso da água decresce linearmente.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate gas exchange of banana Prata in two production cycles in semiarid environment. Six cultivars were used as treatments arranged into a completely randomized design with five replications and four plants per plot. For physiological characteristics, it was considered a factorial arrangement of 6x14x2, six cultivars, 14 periods (months), two readings, 8:00 and 14:00 in each period. The rates of gas exchange, the carboxylation efficiency and the instantaneous efficiency of water use were higher at 8:00 and lower at 14:00, with rare exceptions. The ‘BRS Platina’ had a higher leaf temperature, higher transpiration and lower water use efficiency. ‘Prata-Anã’, ‘FHIA-18’ and ‘Maravilha’ expressed lower leaf temperature and lower transpiration. The ‘Maravilha’ is the most efficient in water use. Transpiration increases linearly with the leaf temperature, while the instantaneous efficiency of water use decreases linearly.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar as características agronômicas de bananeiras tipo Prata em três ciclos de produção, sob diferentes sistemas de irrigação, em condições semiáridas. Adotou-se o delineamento experimental de blocos ao acaso, com seis tratamentos em arranjo fatorial 3x2: três sistemas de irrigação - aspersão convencional, microaspersão e gotejamento - e dois genótipos - 'Prata-Anã' e PA42-44. Utilizaram-se quatro repetições e parcelas com seis plantas úteis. À época do florescimento, avaliaram-se: altura de planta; perímetro de pseudocaule; número de folhas vivas; comprimento e largura da terceira folha; área foliar total e índice de área foliar. À colheita, avaliaram-se: massa do cacho e das pencas; massa média das pencas; massa das três primeiras pencas; número de pencas e de frutos; massa, comprimento e diâmetro de fruto; e número de folhas vivas. O sistema de irrigação por gotejamento proporciona menor vigor, expresso pelo porte e perímetro do pseudocaule, para bananeiras tipo Prata, em comparação aos sistemas de irrigação por aspersão e microaspersão. A 'Prata-Anã' apresenta maior número de frutos e de pencas por cacho, enquanto seu híbrido PA42-44 apresenta maior massa, comprimento e diâmetro do fruto.

The objective of this work was to evaluate the agronomic characteristics of Prata banana plants during three production cycles, under different irrigation systems, in semi-arid conditions. A randomized block design was adopted with six treatments, in a 3x2 factorial arrangement: three irrigation systems - conventional sprinkler, microsprinkler and drip - and two genotypes - 'Prata-Anã' and its hybrid PA42-44. Four replicates in plots with six useful plants were used. Plant height, pseudostem perimeter, number of alive leaves, length and width of the third leaf, total leaf area, and leaf area index were evaluated at flowering. Weight of bunch and hands, mean weight of hands, weight of the three first hands, number of hands and fruits per bunches, and weight, length and diameter of fruits and number of alive leaves were evaluated during the harvest season. The drip irrigation system provides smaller vigor to banana Prata, in comparison to conventional and to micro sprinkler systems, as can be seen by the size and perimeter of the pseudostem. The cultivar Prata-Anã shows a larger number of fruit and hands per brunch, while its hybrid PA42-44 shows larger weight, length and fruit diameter.

Objetivou-se, com este trabalho avaliar, agronomicamente, em dois ciclos de produção, sete genótipos (tratamentos) de bananeira tipo Prata, de porte alto, no semiárido. A variedade Pacovan (AAB), seus híbridos 'PacovanKen', PV42-53, 'Preciosa', 'Japira' e PV79-34 (AAAB) e o híbrido 'Garantida' (AAAB), derivado da 'Prata São Tomé' foram avaliados. Utilizou-se o delineamento experimental inteiramente casualizado com 10 repetições e espaçamento de plantio de 3,0 x 2,5 metros. Consideraram-se, na época do florescimento e da colheita, descritores fenotípicos vegetativos: de ciclo, de rendimento e de avaliação da severidade da Sigatoka-amarela. Submeteram-se os dados à análise de variância e agruparam-se as médias pelo Critério de Scott-Knott a 5% de probabilidade. Os valores das características aumentaram entre os ciclos de produção. Há variabilidade nas características entre os genótipos pertencentes ao mesmo grupo genômico e subgrupo, inclusive entre híbridos originados da mesma genitora. Os híbridos são mais vigorosos que a variedade Pacovan. A cultivar Garantida é a menos produtiva. A 'Pacovan' é a mais suscetível (nota seis), o híbrido PV79-34 apresenta suscetibilidade intermediária (nota três) e os demais híbridos são resistentes à Sigatoka-amarela (nota um). O híbrido PV79-34 apresenta características favoráveis ao seu cultivo comercial, evidenciadas pelo menor porte, maior vigor, menor ciclo e maior número de pencas e de frutos.

This work aimed to evaluate, agronomically, in two production cycles, seven genotypes (treatments) of banana Prata, tall type, in the semi-arid. Pacovan (AAB) variety and hybrids 'Pacovan-Ken', PV42-53, 'Preciosa', 'Japira' and PV79-34 (AAAB) and the 'Garantida' (AAAB), from the 'Prata São Tomé' hybrid were evaluated. The experimental design was completely randomized with 10 replicates in the planting spacing 3.0 x 2.5 meters. At the time of flowering and harvesting, vegetative phenotypic descriptors, cycle, yield, and severity assessment of yellow Sigatoka were considered. The data were submitted to variance analysis and the average grouped by Scott-Knott criterion at 5% probability. Values increased between production cycles. There is variability in the characteristics between the genotypes belonging to the same genomic group and subgroup, including hybrids originated from the same genitor. The hybrids are more vigorous than the Pacovan variety. Garantida cultivar is the least productive. 'Pacovan' is the most susceptible (score six), the PV79-34 hybrid presents intermediate susceptibility (score three) and other hybrids are resistant to yellow Sigatoka (score one). The PV79-34 hybrid has characteristics favorable to its cultivation due the smallest height, greatest vigor, minor cycle and largest number of hands and fingers.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi determinar a magnitude e a significância das associações entre características morfológicas e de rendimento em plátanos. Foram avaliados cinco genótipos: Terra, Terra-maranhão, Terrinha e D'Angola (AAB), além do híbrido Fhia-21 (AAAB). As associações entre peso do cacho e caracteres morfológicos da planta não foram significativas na maioria dos genótipos. Quando foram considerados todos os genótipos simultaneamente, a maioria dos caracteres avaliados apresentou correlação significativa entre si. Nesse caso, o PCA correlacionou-se significativamente com todos os caracteres, com exceção da espessura da casca.

The objective of this work was to assess the magnitude and significance of associations between morphological traits and yield of plantains. Five genotypes were evaluated: Terra, Terra-maranhão, Terrinha, and D'Angola (AAB), besides the hybrid Fhia-21 (AAAB). The associations of bunch weight (BW) with plant characters were not significant, for most of the genotypes. When all genotypes were analyzed simultaneously, most of the evaluated traits showed significant correlations between themselves. In this case, BW was significantly correlated to all traits except fruit-skin thickness.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o comportamento fitotécnico da bananeira 'Prata-Anã' e de quatro híbridos descendentes, em dois ciclos de produção, no Perímetro Irrigado do Estreito, sudoeste da Bahia. Utilizou-se o delineamento experimental inteiramente casualizado com cinco tratamentos: cultivar Prata-Anã e os híbridos Fhia-01 (BRS Fhia Maravilha), BRS Fhia-18, Fhia-18 e PA42-44, com dez repetições. Foram mensurados os descritores fenotípicos vegetativos, os de ciclo e os de rendimento. Foram observados os seguintes incrementos entre ciclos: na altura da planta, no perímetro do pseudocaule, no número de pencas e de frutos, e na produtividade. O híbrido Fhia-18 apresentou maior porte e perímetro do pseudocaule, a 'Prata-Anã' menor porte (com manutenção desse caráter no PA42-44). Os híbridos foram similares quanto ao número de filhos emitidos. Os híbridos BRS Fhia-18, Fhia-1 e PA42-44 foram mais precoces para a colheita e apresentaram frutos com maior comprimento que a genitora. Fhia-18 apresentou maior quantidade de frutos e PA42-44 menor número de pencas em comparação à genitora. Os híbridos BRS Fhia-18, Fhia-18 e Fhia-1 são mais produtivos que a genitora. 'Prata-Anã' é a mais suscetível à sigatoka-amarela, e PA42-44 é resistente e com maior retenção de folhas na colheita, porém, similar à genitora em produtividade.

The objective of this work was to evaluate the phytotechnical behavior of 'Prata-Anã' banana and four progeny hybrids, during two production cycles, in the Perímetro Irrigado do Estreito, southwest of Bahia state, Brazil. The experimental design was completely randomized with five treatments: cultivar 'Prata-Anã' and the hybrids Fhia-01 (BRS Fhia Maravilha), BRS Fhia-18, Fhia 18 and PA42-44, with ten replicates. Phenotypic vegetative descriptors, cycle length and yield were measured. Increases occurred between cycles for: plant height, pseudostem perimeter, number of hands and fruits, and yield. The Fhia-18 hybrid showed greater size and pseudostem perimeter, and 'Prata-Anã' had the smallest, (with maintenance of this character in the PA42-44). The hybrids were similar in the number of suckers produced. BRS Fhia-18, PA42-44 and Fhia-1 were early for harvest and had greater fruit length than 'Prata-Anã'. Fhia-18 produced more fruit and PA42-44 had fewer hands compared to the parental cultivar. BRS Fhia-18, Fhia-18 and Fhia-1 are more productive than the parental cultivar. 'Prata-Anã' is more susceptible to yellow sigatoka, while PA42-44 is resistant, with greater retention of leaves at harvest; however, both have similar yields.
