Qualidade do carvão vegetal produzido com madeiras da região de Manaus em fornos de alvenaria

Some wood characteristics from species of Manaus in the Amazonas State in Brazil, was determined for knowing the potential of raw material for the charcoal production. It were identified twenty eight botanical families, and fourthy three genus an the most important species for wood carbonization were: Goupia glabra, Aldina heterophylla, Jacarandá copaia, Diplotropis purpurea and Tapirira guianensis.

The specific gravity average was 0.73g/cm3 and the moisture average 24.16% wet basis, with the air drying wood. The wood was carbonized in beehive kiln and from the charcoal obtained was determined the physical and chemical characteristics. The average results were: mean size 45.30 mm; friability 15.46% of the production of charcoal fines was minor than 13mm and the breaking index was of 39.13%; the maxime tensica of breaking 43. 36kgf/cm2; the apparent density 0.51 and the real density 1.48%; porosity 65.28%; humidity 6.80%; volatiles materials 17.65%; ash 2.29%; fixed carbon 80.06% and the superior calorific value 6,826Kcal/kg.
