The saponins phytolaccosides B and E and a new saponin, the 3-O-B-D-glycopyranosyl-jaligonic acid 30-methyl ester, were isolated from the butanolic residue of fresh roots of Phytolacca thyrsiflora (Phytolaccaceae). The acid hydrolysis of the crude saponin yielded sapogenins, phytolaccagenin and jaligonic acid. The identification of the compounds was made mainly by spectroscopic analysis.
