ESTUDO DA OCORRÊNCIA DE SCOLYTIDAE E PLATYPODIDAE EM MADEIRAS DA AMAZÔNIA

The are few studies of the families Scolytidae and Platypodidae (Insecta: Coleoptera) in green wood in Amazonia. Though these beetles feed on stain fungi, they do demage to the wood by building galeries for growing the fungi. Both families were surveyed in sixteen different tree species from the country of Presidente Figueiredo, state of Amazonas. Number of individuals found in each tree species varied considerably. The date are based primarily on the beetles genera Xyleborus and Platypus, both frequent. We show for different tree species that heartwood is more resistant to attack from these families than is sapwood.
